Put a monkey in a ball (not a real one, monkey obviously, the ball should be fine) and make a video game where said monkey, called AiAI rolls around collecting bananas around fiendishly difficult courses and you have the premise for one of the best-loved puzzle games in gaming history.

Super Monkey Ball is ace, always has been, and probably always will be, and now with the latest version, Sega’s Super Monkey Ball Banana Rumble on the Nintendo Switch, AiAi is rolling out (pun, very much intended) to a brand new audience.

But what could make it even better? What one thing could possibly create the greatest Super Monkey Ball experience in our lifetime? Well playing the game with an actual monkey ball of course.

Friends, cast away your Joycons. Joystick drift is a thing of the past. Well, it is as far as Dr Tom Tilley is concerned.

You see Dr. Tom is a computer scientist and he has put all that intelligence and education into making a controller for Super Monkey Ball that features a model of AiAI in a ball and made a massive trackball out of it so he can steer AiAi around the courses by rotating the it with his hands.

Using some cardboard (scientific cardboard obviously) and a 3D printer to print the monkey he shows in his post on X how he’s put it all together and how it all works. The man is a genius. A bona-fide genius and he has my vote.

His post said, “Everybody’s adding AI to things these days so I thought I’d add AiAi to my DIY soccer/football controller.”

This is also funny. He is a genius and a funny one at that. Please make us a Monkey Ball controller Dr Tom. We are pretty much begging you.

A 22-year-old Russian citizen has been indicted by the US Department of Justice for allegedly attacking Ukrainian government computers and destroying critical infrastructure systems.

If convicted, the man could face a maximum penalty of five years in prison. In the meantime, a reward of up to $10 million has also been issued for information on his location or cyber activity by American authorities.

“As alleged, the defendant conspired with Russian military intelligence on the eve of Russia’s unjust and unprovoked invasion of Ukraine to launch cyberattacks targeting the Ukrainian government and later targeting its allies, including the United States.” said Attorney General Merrick B. Garland in the government press release.

The FBI Baltimore Field Office is currently investigating the case which remains ongoing.

“The Department will do its part to prevent and disrupt such malicious behavior that relies upon online services or infrastructure in the U.S., or that targets U.S. victims.

“We will also identify, pursue, and eventually hold to account those responsible for Russia’s malicious actions, including the cybercriminals that the Russian government cultivates in furtherance of its malign agenda,” said Assistant Attorney General Matthew G. Olsen.

In the government document, the Special Agent in Charge William J. Delbagno of the FBI Baltimore Field Office expresses how the FBI is committed to “combating cyber threats both at home and internationally.

“To those adversaries who seek to compromise our international partners’ systems, know you will be identified and you will face consequences for your actions. The FBI vows to continually pursue justice and disrupt malicious cyber actors.”

What was WhisperGate?

According to court documents, in January of 2022, a group of people are alleged to have conspired to use a U.S.-based company’s services to distribute malware known in the cybersecurity community as ‘WhisperGate’ to dozens of Ukrainian government entities’ computer systems.

On January 13, the attack on multiple Ukrainian government networks was said to have taken place with the computers being infected by networks with a malware called WhisperGate.

This has since been described as a cyber weapon used to destroy the target computer and data.

Amazon became one of just a few companies globally valued at over $2 trillion on Wednesday (26 June) after its share price reached a high of $193.61.

After reaching the new market cap, the American multinational joins the ranks alongside Microsoft, Apple, Nvidia, and Alphabet as companies that are worth $2 trillion or more.

It has taken the company more than four years to reach this milestone, after hitting the market cap of $1 trillion in 2020. This was the second time they hit the benchmark, as they first reached it in 2018.

It’s not the first time the share price has risen recently either, with the price having surged by 27.5% so far this year.

Led by CEO Andy Jassy, Amazon has had a hugely successful year and it’s just had its most profitable quarter ever. On April 30, the company announced its better-than-expected earnings and revenue for the January to March period.

Operating income soared more than 200%, reaching $15.3 billion which far outpaces revenue growth. Net income more than tripled to $10.4 billion and sales increased by 13%.

A jump in profitability was expected for the second quarter too, but at a more measured pace.

What are the world’s most valuable companies?

Going by market capitalization, Microsoft is currently the world’s most valuable company, with a reach of $3.360 trillion. To put that in context that’s more than the GDP figure for the world’s sixth-largest economy – the UK.

Apple is close by in second position with a cap of $3.269. Nvidia and Alphabet (Google) take the third and fourth place and then comes in Amazon after it has just reached the $2 trillion mark.

The USA dominates on the list of the largest companies by market cap, with the top five all being based here. It’s only when you get to the sixth position that a country change up is seen, as the state-owned petroleum and natural gas company Saudi Aramco from Saudi Arabia takes the spot.

Meta comes in seventh, followed by the semiconductor manufacturing and design company TSMC from Taiwan. Berkshire Hathaway and Eli Lilly round up the list to ten.

Lots of us record our gameplay footage, some for posterity, some for work, and even pros do it so they can watch it back and learn what went right and what went wrong. To do so up to now though generally meant you would need to have external software running such as Nvidia Shadowplay and have the GeForce Experience software installed. Many people also use OBS to record and that’s all been fine up until now, but imagine if Valve came along and added game recording baked right into Steam and made it so you don’t even need to remember to start and stop your recordings. Well welcome to the future because Steam Game Recording has just arrived.

I have lost track of the times I have been recording game footage with my Nvidia software and forgot to stop the recording. Days later I have found 30GB worth of video in a folder, two minutes of gameplay, and hours of me clicking around my desktop and writing.

Steam’s new Game Recording means that that will be a thing of the past for me, depending on which of its modes it is set in. Let’s have a look at how we get it up and running.

How to set up Game Recording in Steam

To start with Game Recording has arrived in Beta so with the caveat that things may not work properly. To be fair, we haven’t had a single problem with it yet. It has been flawless but it does mean you need to be in the Beta branch of your desktop Steam client so here is how you go about making sure you are.

Open Settings
Open Interface
Open Beta Participation and select either of the options (Steam Beta Update or Steam Families Beta).
If you don’t see what you are expecting go to the Steam drop-down and Check for Steam Client Updates, install the latest version, and restart Steam if it doesn’t do it automatically.
If you do see the Betas and have selected one. Restart Steam
Open Settings
Towards the bottom you will now see Game Recordings – select it

Now we are in the Game Recordings menu we have a few options.

The first of which is OFF – don’t record gameplay. Well, we are not going to that party today. The next two are what we are interested in, particularly the second option – Record in background

Record in Background

As you might have guessed Record in the background will do just that. It is a fire-and-forget option for never missing any of your gaming ever again. If you select it you will get some options allowing you to tweak the amount of game time you want to record before Steam starts to overwrite the earliest footage – sort of like a CCTV idea,

I set mine for three hours and the default High Setting and Steam told me it would need 16GB of my hard drive to do that. Fine. Have it.

You also have access to some hotkeys for screenshots and also a cool one (CTRL+F12) that will place a marker on the recording’s timeline so you can easily find a cool moment later when you are scrubbing back through your footage.

As soon as you start playing a game you will notice new files being added to the folder but not really in a format you can easily flick through, but that’s fine. More of that in a minute.

Record on demand

This is more of your traditional system of hotkey to start, hotkey to stop. More granular control over your hard drive space if you have the memory of an elephant.

How to watch Steam game recordings

Now you have all the footage you need it’s time to take the recording and find the bit you want, clip it and export it and share it.

If you go to View in the Steam toolbar you will now see Screenshots and Recordings with a NEW badge next to it. Head in there and you will be presented with the footage you just took.

You can now open up your game clip and you will be given a timeline with any of the markers you placed on it. Now you can move backwards and forwards through the video and when you find a bit you want to keep, select Clip which will give you some handles to position to the start and end of the bit you want. Now you can simply export and share it or use it however you like.

It’s all seamless so make sure you try it out

Can I only use Steam game Recording with Steam games?

Here’s the good part. You can use Steam Game Recording with any game that will allow the Steam Overlay, so you don’t necessarily need to have bought your game on Steam to record.

Racing game peripheral experts Moza Racing last weekend made an announcement that got flight simmers hot under the summer collar when it unveiled a range of flight sim gear and a move into that space.

With DCS World being so popular and a new IL-2 Korea on the cards there has never been a better time for a company to jump on board as flight sims seem to finding a true renaissance at the moment.

In the 1990s there were hardcore sims everywhere, but there has been a dearth until the last few years, but now it seems players, with the aid of good, well-priced hardware are jumping into virtual cockpits everywhere.

With that in mind, only a few days since the announcement, Moza opened up pre-orders today for the MH16 Flightstick, a Z-Axis module, and the highly-anticipated force-feedback base, the AB9.

At this stage, we have prices for the Flightstick and the Z-Axis but price info for the base was not included in the press release shared with us, so we will update this as soon as we know it.

You can pre-order this initial batch of Moza Flight gear now with shipping expected to start from 31st July.

No word yet on the release of the throttle system and pedals, but as soon as we hear from our friends at Moza we will let you know.

The rockstar photojournalist hero of Capcom’s groundbreaking zombie-survival hit Dead Rising returns in a new remaster later this year, which the publisher surprise-announced on Wednesday.

Dead Rising, Keiji Inafune’s homage to cult zombie flicks, and a progenitor of the undead apocalypse craze that has endured as a motif, if not a genre, more than 15 years later, comes back with updated visuals “a brand-new look” and what sounds like a new voice actor for West himself.

At any rate, it’ll be a classic game with modern visuals playable natively on current hardware. Dead Rising was re-released for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One (as well as Windows PC) in September 2016, and is playable on PS5 and Xbox Series X, but only because of backward compatibility. This is a version specific to the newest family of hardware.

In Dead Rising, players are West, who drops into the town of Willamette, Colo. to get a firsthand look at what the government isn’t telling us about this zombie outbreak and infestation.

He ends up in the Willamette Parkview Mall, where he loots stores and scavenges items to construct weapons and traps that help him survive a three-day undead onslaught until help arrives. Dead Rising’s makers were very careful never to mention noted grindhouse thriller director George A. Romero or his cult hit Dawn of the Dead, but it’s clear Dead Rising takes great inspiration from both.

Dead Rising was for a time a major franchise in Capcom’s library, spawning a 2010 sequel for PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 (starring a different protagonist, the motocross star Chuck Greene), then a stranger and more poorly received Xbox One console exclusive in 2013. Inafune, one of the original designers of the Mega Man franchise, left Capcom in 2010 shortly before Dead Rising 2’s launch (Greene’s yellow and black racing jacket, which says Ijiek, is an homage to the series creator) to start Comcept, the studio behind Mighty No. 9, a crowdfunded spiritual successor to Mega Man.

When is Dead Rising: Deluxe Remaster launching?

Dead Rising 4 returned the show to Colorado in 2016 for PS4 and Xbox One, in a game that drew indifferent-to-middling interest. Its studio, Capcom Vancouver, was closed two years later.

In any case, the news that Frank West is back on assignment should excite older fans who remember him at the vanguard of something that today seems so cliché — one compos mentis human against a brainless horde, since copied by Left 4 Dead; Call of Duty’s Zombies mode (beginning with 2008’s World at War); the Dying Light franchise and Days Gone.

Dead Rising: Deluxe Remaster doesn’t have a firm launch date, but should arrive later in 2024.
