According to a recent report by Bitget Research, cryptocurrency losses due to deepfake-related scams are expected to surpass $25 billion in 2024, more than doubling the previous year’s figures.
The crypto exchange’s study, released on June 27, highlights a 245% increase in global deepfake incidents in 2024, drawing on data from Sumsub research. The first quarter of 2024 saw China, Germany, Ukraine, the United States, Vietnam, and the United Kingdom leading in deepfake detections.
The news follows a late May report showing that deepfakes have been ranked as the second most frequent information security concern for businesses in the United Kingdom. Earlier this week, ReadWrite reported that a five-hour YouTube Live broadcast featuring a deepfake of Elon Musk promoted a cryptocurrency scam today, continuing a recent trend of similar fraudulent streams.
Crypto users in the crosshair
The crypto industry specifically experienced a 217% rise compared to the same period in 2023. Bitget reported $6.3 billion in crypto losses attributed to deepfakes in Q1 2024 alone, projecting this figure to reach $10 billion per quarter by 2025.
The most common deepfake-related crypto scams involve fake projects, phishing attacks, and Ponzi schemes, accounting for over half of all such losses in the past two years.
In a comment for Cointelegraph, BitgetCEO Gracy Chen emphasized the urgent need for measures to combat this trend. Chen said:
Deepfakes are moving into the crypto sector in force, and there is little we can do to stop them without proper education and awareness
Fraudsters often impersonate influential figures to create an illusion of credibility and attract investments. Other applications of deepfake technology in crypto crimes include cyber extortion, identity fraud, and market manipulation, though these represent a smaller portion of overall losses.
Bitget predicts that without effective countermeasures, deepfakes could be involved in 70% of crypto crimes by 2026. Ryan Lee, Bitget Research’s chief analyst, told Cointelegraph:
Right now, exchanges need to pay attention to their ‘Proof of Life’ features of the KYC systems the most […] This feature essentially confirms that the user is a real person and not a static image or a video, through real-time actions like blinking, moving or secondary ‘Proof of Life’ requests.
The research also warns of deepfakes potentially bypassing Know Your Customer (KYC) measures, emphasizing the importance of robust “Proof of Life” features in exchange security systems.
As deepfake technology advances, the crypto industry faces growing challenges in maintaining security and trust. Exchanges and users alike must remain vigilant and adapt to these evolving threats.

Elon Musk’s SpaceX has won a contract to bring down the NASA International Space Station at the end of its life.
The contract for the work, which has been valued at up to $843 million, was announced through a press release on Wednesday, June 26.
After supporting 3,300 experiments that couldn’t have been possible on Earth, the International Space Station will retire in 2030. Elon Musk’s SpaceX will “develop and deliver” the vehicle that will “provide the capability to deorbit the space station and ensure avoidance of risk to populated areas.”
SpaceX is honored to be entrusted by @NASA to support this critical mission https://t.co/63zFgM5oFn
— SpaceX (@SpaceX) June 26, 2024
Once this has been built, NASA will then take ownership of it and operate it throughout its mission. Along with the space station, it is expected to destructively break up as part of the re-entry process.
SpaceX is an American spacecraft manufacturer, launch service provider, and satellite communications company which is headquartered in California. It was founded in March 2002 by Elon Musk and the company has been a commercial partner of NASA for years.
It was one of the two American companies that NASA spoke within 2014 to explore commercial space transport.
NASA is entrusting SpaceX with deorbiting the space station
“Selecting a U.S. Deorbit Vehicle for the International Space Station will help NASA and its international partners ensure a safe and responsible transition in low Earth orbit at the end of station operations,” said Ken Bowersox, the associate administrator for Space Operations Mission Directorate at NASA headquarters.
“This decision also supports NASA’s plans for future commercial destinations and allows for the continued use of space near Earth.”
The International Space Station masses over 400,000 kilograms and after 25 years in orbit will soon be past its prime.
It was in September of 2023 when NASA first sought bids for the deorbit vehicle before they then landed on SpaceX which has now been confirmed.
The company hasn’t yet shared plans on what the vehicle will look like, but it has to be ready by 2029 ahead of the planned 2030 retirement.

In an effort to stop people relying on their own personal car, Uber is paying car owners $1,000 in their newly launched ‘One Less Car Challenge.’
“With nearly 233 million private vehicles on the road throughout the U.S. – 80 million of which are driven less than 10 miles a day on average – we’re out to show that it’s possible to make the switch to a car-light lifestyle…” writes Adam Gromis, the Global Head of Sustainability Policy at Uber.
He says ditching the car will contribute to creating “more livable cities” while saving both money and emissions.
The five week challenge will include up to 175 car owners living in Los Angeles, Chicago, Washington D.C., Miami, San Francisco, Toronto, and Vancouver.
All participants will be asked to give up their car and instead use alternative transportation like walking, public transit, cycling, and rideshare.
For taking part, those involved will be given the money to pay for the other transportation methods which Uber says is based on the average monthly cost of vehicle ownership in the U.S.
The efforts within the challenge will be analyzed as Uber has partnered with a research consultancy company that specializes in behavioral science called the Behavioural Insights Team who will be measuring the impacts.
Uber ran the same ‘One Less Car Challenge’ in Australia last year
While many could be quick to brand the challenge a PR gimmick, it’s not the first time Uber has asked people to give up their car.
In 2023, a study was completed in Australia where 58 people went without their vehicle and instead opted for different transport. They were also paid, with a total of $870 USD given in transport credits.
The transportation company found that the weekly average number of trips amongst the people involved dropped slightly from 21 to 19, but the number of transport modes increased significantly.
People in the Australian trial were averaging four modes of different transport, with walking, cycling, and rideshare found to be the ‘most valued players’ of the trial.

Amazon will launch a dedicated section on its shopping site that resembles the Chinese bargain site Temu.
According to The Information, the marketplace will feature items shipped to overseas consumers from warehouses in China.
It will include unbranded fashion, home goods, and daily necessities, with the publisher citing slides that it claims have already been shown to sellers in China.
If correct, this will be Amazon’s most aggressive response yet to the boom of cheap marketplaces like Shein, Temu, and AliExpress. And unlike the next-day delivery that the multinational company has become known for, the products will instead take between 9 to 11 days to reach customers.
In a recent closed-door meeting, as reported by the publisher, the e-commerce giant told sellers it would start signing up merchants this summer and will accept inventory from the fall.
The merchants would determine their product selection and pricing, with testing of demand for new products to be done so through producing small batches.
The inner workings of the potential new approach to cheap items aren’t yet known, it’s not clear if the shipments will be made using a U.S. trade provision that exempts individual packages worth less than $800 from U.S. customs duties.
Amazon hasn’t yet confirmed nor denied the report, but a spokesperson did respond to Reuters request for a comment: “We are always exploring new ways to work with our selling partners to delight our customers with more selection, lower prices, and greater convenience.”
Amazon’s value soars to over $2tn
On June 26, the company joined the $2 trillion market cap club as its shares increased to an all-time high of $193.61.
The American business now sits amongst the likes of Microsoft, Apple, Nvidia, and Alphabet who had previously reached this benchmark.
This came at a time when Amazon had its most profitable quarter ever as well, with operating income soaring over 200% to $15.3 billion.

UFC superstar Conor McGregor has sprung up in Hitman: World of Assassination as the latest target, playing the role of The Disruptor, a multi-millionaire MMA Fighter with worldwide fame who started a feud with the CEO of a prominent tech company, putting a target on his back in the process. Sounds about right on several levels.
“The age of the Disruptor is here! I had a lot of fun creating the character and bringing him to life. I can’t wait for players to try to take him down – Agent 47 is in for the fight of his life!” shared Conor McGregor.
There are several ways to get your chance to take out McGregor. The mission is available to play, for free, for newcomers to Hitman in the Free Starter Pack, with the possibility of replaying the mission as many times as they wish, for the mission’s duration which seems to be the 29th of July.
You can also buy The Disrupter DLC priced at just $4.99/€4.99/£3.99 and includes:
Permanent access to The Ostentatious – A two-level Arcade contract featuring The Disruptor Elusive Target
An outfit: The Disruptor Fur Coat
Three items: The Disruptor Kettlebell, the Disruptor Resistance Band, the Disruptor Cane
A set of cosmetics for the Freelancer Safehouse inspired by the Elusive Target mission, including the iconic Money Pit.
“We are beyond thrilled to bring Conor to Hitman World of Assassination. Players are really going to enjoy this new mission which blends the best of Hitman World of Assassination with the raw charisma and energy of one of the most successful athletes in the world. I’m excited to see our players diving it this new mission and enjoying what the team has created.” said Hakan Abrak, CEO at IO Interactive.
Meanwhile, McGregor’s return to the Octagon this weekend after breaking his leg in his last fight back in 2021 had to be delayed after the star broke a toe in training.

Madness builds were a big part of the base Elden Ring game due to the sheer amount of damage you could inflict.
In Shadow of the Erdtree, this certainly continues, with not only a full area dedicated to madness, but also a unique madness weapon that you can find.
This is called the Madding Hand and can be utilized alone, or alongside other weapons to make for some serious madness action.
Below, we’ll take you through the process for how to get the Madding Hand in Shadow of the Erdtree so you can head straight to this powerful addition to your arsenal.
Where to find Madding Hand in Shadow of the Erdtree
To get to the Madding Hand in Shadow of the Erdtree, you must first unlock the Abyssal Woods section of the map – something that many of you may not have done.
It’s a bit of a ‘secret’ area since you don’t technically have to go there to complete the DLC, and is hidden down a secret path, but is also one of the creepiest locations in all of Elden Ring.
To get to Abyssal Woods, you have to initially make your way to the Main Gate Plaza Site of Grace within Shadow Keep, and progress upward, onto the outside area and down the ladder next to the flaming boats.
From here, you’ll then need to scale down and open an illusory wall, right of the Domain of Dragons painting, and enter the stone coffin, out to Scadu Altus.
Now, progress all the way through here in a southerly direction, dropping down onto gravestones, next to a large waterfall. Once you’re at the bottom, head down once more, next to the subsequent waterfall.
Take an immediate left turn and into the Darklight Catacombs marked by two small flaming altars. ‘Complete’ this dungeon by going all of the way through and defeating Jori, Elder Inquisitor at the end.
After doing so, you should be able to continue to Abyssal Woods.
Now, simply progress forward, unlocking the Woodland Trail Site of Grace. Continue down the defined path that has messages on it and you should come across the Madding Hand enemy.
Defeat this miniboss and you’ll be given the Madding Hand for yourself!

Frostpunk 2 is getting bigger and better – thanks to you! So starts the post about the delay. Sandwich the bad news between some good news. It’s classic PR 101. We are giving you some more time to venture outside and find yourself – by closing the library so you can’t have books to read anymore. Somehow, you don’t need books anymore because you can become one with nature.
Anyway, cutting to the chase that’s what has happened here. The highly-anticipated Frostpunk 2 has been delayed after feedback from the beta. Not by much, we are only looking at a two-month slip at that stage so it shouldn’t put it back too much if everything now goes to plan.
In the post, the devs go on to explain that after a successful beta in which most people scored the game, it highlighted issues that needed extra time to work on. The post elaborates on this by saying: “Based on the surveys we received from you after playing, the average rating you gave the Beta was 8 out of 10. We’re super grateful for that! At the same time, the Beta was only a small slice of a work-in-progress, still growing game. While our backlog is plentiful, the Beta was an opportunity for us to listen to what you enjoyed, and what didn’t quite land yet. This allowed us to prioritize things better, and bring to the front the features and modifications we were already working on (we hope!) you’ll enjoy the most.
Before we go into detail on the new additions, there’s one drawback we need to be upfront about. As we analyzed your feedback and prioritized things we want to add to the game, we realized that to properly do them justice – and to guarantee the best possible experience at launch – we need more time to finish the development of Frostpunk 2. That’s why we made the difficult decision to postpone its release to September 20th, 2024.
We know this is not the news you wanted to hear. However, we believe these additional features are something you deserve to see in-game on day one, not in a patch added after the release. We can only hope you understand that our decision comes from a place of wanting to create the best game possible for you.”
The post then goes into great detail about the next features this delay will enable, including lots of UI enhancements and a new mode called Zoom Stories.
Frostpunk 2 is coming to Xbox Game Pass on day one and this has not changed, so if you are a subscriber there you will still get to play it as part of your subscription.
The devs also say they will now release regular updates on progress from now until launch so hopefully, there won’t be any nasty surprises at the last minute which has happened recently with games such as Life by You and you keep up to date on our Frostpunk 2 page.

The post ATS Betting – Understanding How to Bet Against the Spread appeared first on ReadWrite.
ATS betting is a popular sports betting method where you bet on whether a team will cover the points spread, not just win or lose. It’s about predicting if a team will do better or worse than the points set by the sportsbook.
On this page, we’ll explain what ATS sports betting is, how to bet against the spread, as well as offer a few ATS betting tips that will help you get the hang of it quickly.
What Does ATS Mean?
Let’s start with the basics – what is ATS in sports betting and how can you make it work for you? ATS, short for ‘against the spread’, is a method used by online sportsbooks in the US to make things between teams of different strengths fair. The sportsbooks set a number called the ‘spread’, which predicts how much the favorite (the ‘stronger’ team) should win by or the underdog (the ‘weaker’ team) should lose by.
This means that if you want to bet on the top pick, they have to win the game by a margin greater than the spread for you to win. Conversely, if you’re rooting for the weaker team, they either need to win outright or lose by fewer points than the spread. This betting method gives you more options to play with. Once you’ve gotten the hang of the ATS gambling strategy, you can dive into team stats and historical performance to make better betting decisions.
How Does Betting Against the Spreads Work?
Are you curious how ATS betting can give you an edge? Instead of simply picking a winner, ATS involves wagering on whether a team will cover the point spread. The examples below offer a clear view of ATS betting in practice.
The first example is the Super Bowl XLIX, where the New England Patriots clashed with the Seattle Seahawks. The point spread set by the sportsbooks was:
Patriots -2.5
Seahawks +2.5
The final score of the game was 28-24 for the Patriots. In this scenario, players who bet against the spread on the Patriots won, since the team covered the spread by winning by more than 2.5 points.
To break this down even further, let’s imagine there’s an NBA game between the LA Lakers and the Boston Celtics. The bookmakers offer the spread as follows:
LA Lakers -5.5
Boston Celtics +5.5
This means that if you bet against the spread on the Lakers, they must win by more than 5.5 points, and if you back the Celtics ATS, they can either win outright or lose by 5 points or fewer. Let’s say you want to place a $200 bet on the Lakers ATS at odds of -120. The -120 odds mean you’re risking $120 to potentially win $100. If the Lakers cover the spread by winning by 6 or more points, your $200 bet yields a payout of $360 – $160 in winnings and your initial stake of $200.

How to Place a Bet Against the Spread
Step1: Choose a sportsbook & log in
Step 2: Find the event to bet on & select ATS betting
Step 3: Review the spread & choose your pick
Step 4: Enter your bet & confirm your choice
Step 5: Keep track of your bet
Negative Spread Meaning
In ATS betting, the term ‘negative spread’ refers to the point spread set by the sportsbooks where the favorite team is expected to win by a certain number of points. A negative spread is represented by a minus (-) sign before the number.
The number itself indicates that the favorite team must win the game by more than that number for a bet to succeed.
For example, if a team has a spread of -5.5, they need to win by at least 6 points for bets on them to win. A negative spread is a way to balance the odds between two teams of different strengths, making bets on either of the teams equally attractive.
Against the Spread Betting vs. Negative Spread Betting
Both ATS (against the spread) and negative spread betting are common terms in sports betting. However, they stand for different aspects of the betting process. Let’s take a look at some of the major differences:
Focus: While ATS betting covers both the favorite and the underdog teams with equal spreads, negative spread betting focuses only on the top-choice team. Let’s explore the example from above, where the spread is LA Lakers (-5.5) and Boston Celtics (+5.5). In ATS, betting on the Lakers means they have to win by at least 6 points. Similarly, betting on the Celtics would mean they can either win the game or lose by no more than 5 points. Now, in negative spread betting, the Lakers should win by 6 points or more for the bet to win.
Betting strategy: ATS betting is more flexible in terms of betting on the underdog team to perform within a given margin, while a negative spread requires the favorite to beat the spread.
Risk involved: In ATS, less risk is involved when betting on underdogs, while in negative spread betting, the favorite not only has to win, but they have to win by a certain number of points. Negative spread betting is thus way riskier, but potentially more lucrative.
Against the Spread Betting in Popular Sports
Betting against the spread is a popular way to make sports betting exciting and fair. The basic idea is the same across different sports, yet each of them has its own quirks and terminology. Getting familiar with these can help you play smarter and win more.
Let’s explore how ATS betting works in different sports:
Against the Spread Betting in Football
What does ATS mean in football? Well, to start off, NFL betting is extremely popular due to the sport’s fame and scoring structure. The spread in football represents the expected difference in points between two teams.
For example, if the New England Patriots are favored by -7.5 points against the Miami Dolphins, a bet on them would win if the Patriots win by at least 8 points. Betting on the Miami Dolphins would mean that they either have to win or lose by 7 points or fewer.
Against the Spread Betting in Baseball
In baseball, ATS is commonly referred to as ‘run line’ betting. The standard run line is set at 1.5, meaning the favorite must win by 2 or more runs, while the underdog must either win or lose by just 1 run. For instance, if the spread for the New York Yankees is -1.5 against the Boston Red Sox, the Yankees must win by 2 or more runs for a bet to succeed.
Against the Spread Betting in Hockey
ATS betting in hockey is known as ‘puck line’ betting. Similar to baseball, the puck line is set at 1.5. In a real-life example, if a game is played between the Chicago Blackhawks and the Detroit Red Wings, and the spread on the Blackhawks is -1.5, they have to win by 2 or more goals for a bet to be successful.
Against the Spread Betting in Basketball
ATS betting in basketball is similar to ATS in football because spreads change a lot since the game includes a high number of points. If the spread is set at -5.5 for the Los Angeles Lakers against the Boston Celtics, the Lakers must win by 6 points or more for the bet to pay off. On the other hand, the Celtics can either win outright or lose by 5 or fewer points.
Against the Spread Betting in Soccer
Soccer’s ATS betting, commonly known as ‘goal line’ betting is not as common as the other types, but it follows a similar way. The spread might be 0.5, 1.5, or even 2.5 goals, depending on the teams involved.
Let’s take an example from the Premiere League – Manchester United plays against Nottingham Forest, and the spread is set at -2.5. A bet would succeed if Manchester United would win by 3 or more goals, while a bet on Nottingham Forest would pay off if they won or lost by 2 or fewer goals.

ATS Betting Tips
Before placing a bet, it’s important to understand how ATS betting works. Below you’ll find a few tips that can help you become successful at betting against the spread.
Understand the spread: Before diving into ATS betting, learn what the spread means for each team. To win at ATS, you’ll have to understand the team’s strengths, look at their recent performance, injuries, and all the other things that affect their play.
Manage your money: Good betting bankroll management is crucial. It’s a method that determines the size of your bets based on the probability of winning and the odds set by bookmakers. Decide how much you want to spend and stick to it. One of the popular strategies for this is the Kelly Criterion, which calculates the best bet size to maximize your winnings over time while considering risks.
Look for good odds: Don’t settle for the first sportsbook you find. Look around and try to find the best odds. Even if you find odds that seem big, those small differences can lead to bigger payouts over time.
Keep your head in the game: Betting on sports means keeping a cool head even when you’re losing. Don’t chase your losses and don’t make quick bets because your gut told you to do so. Stick to the plan and only bet when you have good reasons backed by reliable info.
Responsible Betting
ATS betting can be risky, so make sure you always bet responsibly. Only bet what you can afford to lose, and if you’re unsure how much to put down, check out tips or various betting systems that can help you stay on track.
If you ever feel overwhelmed or think that betting is affecting your life, seek help or reach out to groups such as:

ATS Betting FAQs
What does ATS mean in betting?
ATS stands for ‘against the spread’. It refers to betting on whether a team will cover the point spread set by the sportsbook, rather than simply betting on whether they’ll win.
How does ATS Betting work?
ATS betting works based on the point spread set by the sportsbook. If betting on the favorite, the team has to win by more points than the spread. If betting on the underdog, the team has either to win outright or lose by fewer points than the spread.
Are ATS Bets a good bet?
ATS bets can offer advantages because they’re not just about who wins or loses. They allow players to use what they know about the teams’ performance against the spread, thus giving them more ways to bet and win.
How do you win an ATS bet?
To win an ATS bet, you need the team you bet on to cover the spread. This means that the favored team must win by more than the spread, and the underdog team must either win or lose by fewer points.
How often do ATS bets hit?
The frequency of ATS bets winning depends on things like the team’s performance, the number of injuries, and how well the spread matches up with the teams. Looking at past games and team stats can help with figuring out how likely ATS bets are to win.

The micro betting wagering platform Betr which is owned by YouTuber and boxer Jake Paul, as well as Joey Levy, has been awarded its Maryland license for online sports betting.
At a meeting on Wednesday morning (June 26) the Sports Wagering Application Review Commission awarded the company the license after Maryland’s lottery commission signed it off in May.
While it has been given the green light, Betr must still go through a controlled demonstration with the Maryland Lottery before it can officially launch in the state.
Founded in 2022, the sports betting app is already operational in Ohio and Virginia. It was previously in Massachusetts too but it left the market due to economic reasons.
The company’s entry into Maryland doesn’t yet have a known date, but it’s entering the market alongside others.
Veterans Services Corporation (VSC) is a British-based company that operates a digital betting platform and is expected to join the ranks in the Mid-Atlantic state at the beginning of July. They operate their platform through Bee-Fee Limited and have already completed their demonstration.
Bally Bet also has plans to go live in Maryland in July, after they qualify for a digital license in 2022.
At the same time, Betfred is set to exit the sports betting market in Maryland after failing to generate significant market share. The brick-and-mortar location will be closed down on June 30 and its digital platform will be removed in July.
In light of this, the young company owned by Jake Paul and Joey Levy has its work cut out as both FanDuel and DraftKings dominate the area.
What is Betr?
Betr is a sports betting business formed by social media star Jake Paul and Simplebet cofounder Joey Levy.
In March, the company announced that it had secured $15 million in strategic equity financing in a transaction that valued the company at $375 million. That capital brought Betr’s total funding raised to $100 million.

SMIDGE is notable because it lacks the extensive history of many other coins. This hasn’t prevented it from making a significant impact. While it lacks the deep market roots of some cryptocurrencies, its rapid rise has attracted considerable attention.
Today, the overall cryptocurrency market is down 1.2%, with the Fear and Greed Index at 46%, indicating a shift towards fear. Major coins like Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Binance Coin are also down, contributing to a market downturn. Despite this, the meme coin sector is thriving, with SMIDGE leading the way.
SMIDGE has surged 135% today with a market cap of $600,000. Despite modest social media followings (under 1,000 on X and under 600 on Telegram), Crypto Club recognized SMIDGE as highly popular among coins, alongside Bitcoin and other meme coins.
Smidge is a meme coin with a cute version of the popular Pepe meme, known for its exaggerated expressions. It has gone viral on platforms like 4chan and Reddit, attracting a growing community. The project aims to establish SMIDGE as a leading player in the meme coin market.
Key features on the project’s website include locked token supply, revoked minting, and renounced contracts. SMIDGE holders can engage in project governance, voting, and earn gaming rewards. The project is designed to establish a strong presence in the meme coin market.
With the recent price surge supporting its bullish outlook, SMIDGE may experience substantial upward momentum in the coming weeks.

Pepe Unchained boasts transaction speeds one hundred times faster than Ethereum, supports instant bridging, and handles higher transaction volumes. If the platform unfolds as planned, it could become the preferred chain for the dynamic meme coin landscape.
In one week, Pepe Unchained has now raised $1 million, showing bullish investor sentiment for its meme coin and layer-2 crossover concept. Analysis indicates its price will likely rise further during the presale, currently at $0.0080964 and expected to increase in two days.
Pepe Unchained’s presale also offers staking rewards, incentivizing long-term holding to enhance network stability and security. Thirty percent of the total tokens are allocated to staking rewards, underscoring its importance in $PEPU’s development strategy.
Staking $PEPU offers an impressive 2,026% APY, which decreases as more tokens are staked; over 78 million $PEPU tokens are already staked. For updates on the presale, reward claiming, and exchange listings, follow Pepe Unchained on X and Telegram.
