As we eagerly await the release of the Apple iPhone 16 family in the fall of 2024, rumors are growing surrounding the potential of an Ultra version being included for the first time.

Talk of an Ultra model has been rumbling on for some time now, especially following Apple’s release of the Apple Watch Ultra in 2022. The feeling was that Apple would likely extend its Ultra offering to its flagship smartphones.

Here’s what we know so far.

iPhone 16 Ultra: What we know so far and rumors

Design & Display

For an Ultra model to stand out from the iPhone 16 family, it’s likely Apple will need to make some tweaks to the overall design of the handset. Otherwise, it risks blending in with its siblings.

An Ultra model would need to be worthy of such a title, after all.

So it’s no surprise rumors are pointing towards a potential 6.9-inch display for the iPhone 16 Ultra, which would be the biggest ever screen on an iPhone. In comparison, the iPhone 15 Pro Max’s display is 6.7-inches.

Sticking with the display, we might see the iPhone 16 Ultra opting for a brighter panel to compete with Google’s Pixel 8 Pro display, which peaks at 2,400 nits.

Meanwhile, there are reports that tip all iPhone 16 displays to be more power-efficient. Samsung have reportedly switched from using blue fluorescent technology to blue phosphorescence technology in their displays to allow screens to consume less power and, given they provide Apple with display panels for iPhones, it’s fair to assume this could be a feature to include on an Ultra version of the iPhone 16.

One of the key design features rumored to be present in the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max is the display borders, which are reportedly set to be the smallest in the world. According to Setsuna Digitial on Weibo, there will be a 1.2mm bezel around the 16 Pro display and a 1.15mm bezel around the 16 Pro Max’s. To show just how much of an improvement that is, the iPhone 15 Pro’s bezels were 1.71mm.

That’s all due to a new a Border Reduction Structure manufacturing process and could mean that while we might expect to find a larger display on the iPhone 16 Ultra, it’s overall body should be much bigger than the iPhone 15 Pro Max.

Elsewhere, the introduction of Solid State Buttons has been a rumour that extends back to before the release of the iPhone 15 Pro. We didn’t see them then, despite the introduction of the Action Button, so there is fair speculation that we might see this on the iPhone 16 Pro, or even specifically the iPhone 16 Ultra. Solid State Buttons would replace the current moveable volume and power buttons we see on existing iPhone models with buttons that provide haptic feedback, like the Action Button and new reported Capture Button which will enhance camera control.

If we’re going to get a buttonless iPhone at any point, then it would make sense for this to debut on an Ultra version.

Hardware & Software

The iPhone 15 Pro lineup debuted the A17 Pro chipset, so we might see the introduction of the A18 Pro chip in the iPhone 16 Ultra, although details on that are currently very sparse.

It has been said by analyst Jeff Pu, via MacRumours, that all iPhone 16 models will feature an A18 chip, with the A18 Pro being reserved for Pro models, which would include the Ultra. The A18 Pro is allegedly powerful enough to take on laptops, which is certainly the type of upgrade we’d expect in an Ultra iPhone.

On the storage front, it’s expected that the iPhone 16 Ultra will follow the iPhone 15 Pro Max by offering 256GB as the very least, but we might see the introduction of up to 2TB of storage in the Ultra, according to blogger yeux1122.

As for battery life, there’s not a great deal to go on just yet. The Apple Watch Ultra boasted twice as long battery life compared to a standard Apple Watch but there’s no indication that the iPhone 16 Ultra will be able to make similar promises.

Meanwhile, we would expect iOS 18 to be present out of the box for the iPhone 16 Ultra. iOS 18 has already been announced by Apple and will be released this fall.

Camera

One thing Apple fans always look for on the release of a new iPhone is the improvements to the cameras and, if there’s an iPhone 16 Ultra in the pipeline, the expectation will be that it comes with one of the best smartphone cameras on the market, if not the best.

We saw the introduction of the tetraprism telephoto lens on the iPhone 15 Pro Max, which allowed it to reach a 5x optical zoom for the first time. That’s reportedly going to be present in all iPhone 16 Pro models, so how much further could Apple go with the Ultra?

There could be a more powerful zoom, which would help it compete with Samsung’s Galaxy S24 Ultra, which boasts a 10x optical zoom. On top of that, there are reports that Apple could switch to a different type of telephoto lens that is thinner and will improve magnification.

Meanwhile, we’re expecting a 48MP main camera on the iPhone 16 Pro, which would likely also involve the Ultra.

One initial rumour was that the Ultra would be the only iPhone to offer spatial video capture, but that’s now expected to be present on all of the iPhone 16 family due to reports of a vertical camera design change. That would likely mean all iPhone 16 phones will be able to offer spatial video capture as a result.

What is the iPhone 16 Ultra release date?

We’re expecting to be introduced to the iPhone 16 in the fall of 2024 and rumours are growing that this is when Apple might also reveal the iPhone 16 Ultra.

In February 2023, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported that Apple was working towards “an even higher-end Ultra model for as early as 2024.”

That would add weight to the rumours that we could see an Ultra model in the iPhone 16 lineup in September 2024, but there remains nothing concrete on whether that’s yet a viable expectation of still just a hunch.

For example, there’s no mention of an iPhone Ultra in this road map of potential Apple product releases, which is from Samsung Securities. That would suggest not even Apple’s biggest competitor is expecting them to release an iPhone Ultra just yet.

And remember, we’re still waiting on the rumored iPhone Flip.

How much will the iPhone 16 Ultra cost?

As there’s still uncertainty surrounding the true release date of an iPhone Ultra, it’s hard to speculate on how much it would cost. There is currently no indication that an iPhone Ultra will replace, say, the iPhone Pro Max version in the lineup, which means would naturally expect any Ultra version to be north of $1,199, which is what the iPhone 15 Pro Max entered the market at.

To get some guidance, Apple priced its Apple Watch Ultra 2 at $700, which is $400 more expensive than the Apple Watch Series 9. If Apple sticks to that pricing strategy, then an iPhone Ultra will likely cost at least $1,399, given the iPhone 15 Pro costs $999.

That might sound steep, but it’s actually incredibly competitive when compared to the $1,799 price for Samsung and Google’s foldable phones.

BOME recently displayed bullish signs, particularly with a strong breakout two days ago on the 12-hour timeframe. This breakout occurred above key resistance levels at $0.0098 and the psychological barrier of $0.01.

Previously, BOME was in a downtrend. However, it formed a bullish pattern with a double bottom and a bullish divergence on the RSI, suggesting a potential reversal. The 4-hour timeframe offers a closer look at the breakout and potential entry points.

The breakout zone coincides with a confluence of support levels: the psychological support at $0.01, the trend line, and the 0.236 Fibonacci retracement level of the recent decline. Several EMAs (100, 28, and 50) also converge around this area, further strengthening this support zone.

While these technical indicators paint a bullish picture, caution is necessary. The broader market, especially Bitcoin’s price currently below $62,200 (a key resistance level), might hinder a strong BOME rally.

Therefore, entering a trade around the support zone with a target of 3:2 or 2:1 Fibonacci levels might seem attractive, but waiting for confirmation is crucial.

BOME price prediction

Despite a bearish start in the last 24 hours, BOOK OF MEME (BOME) reversed course after news of a filing (details of the filing not mentioned here for brevity). This surge propelled BOME to the top gainer spot on CoinMarketCap, reaching a 7-day high of $0.01073.

The price action has been volatile, with BOME fluctuating between $0.01073 (intra-day high) and $0.00901 (intra-day low). At the time of writing, BOME sits at $0.0097, reflecting a 5% increase from its 24-hour low.

The recent rally saw a surge in both market capitalization (up 16% to $736,722,054) and 24-hour trading volume (up 124% to $179,342,372).

However, it’s important to consider BOME’s historical price range. It reached its all-time high of $0.028 on March 16, 2024, but also dipped to a low of $0.00085 just two days prior. Since then, the lowest price recorded was $0.007192, while the highest was $0.015846.

The Fear & Greed Index currently shows a neutral score of 47 for BOME, suggesting reasons to be cautiously optimistic about its potential price rise in July.

Firstly, BOME has exhibited strong performance recently, with 16 positive daily gains out of the last 30 (53% win rate). This consistent upward movement suggests healthy demand and investor confidence in the project.

Secondly, BOME’s high liquidity is evident from its substantial market capitalization of over $670,000 and robust 24-hour trading volume of around $87,000. This indicates the coin is actively traded and can handle large transactions without major price fluctuations.

These factors combined suggest a positive market outlook for BOME. However, it’s important to remember the recent volatility and the coin’s distance from its all-time high.

I get a lot of DMs to my X account with people pitching for coverage all the time. Occasionally one stands out more than others which piques my interest. I play games, I am super interested in AI as is Readwrite in general so it’s easy to get bored with the number of companies either saying they are using AI or even more like “We aren’t using AI!! How dare you”

What if the game was AI? What if it was all pretty much AI, programmed by a human called Max – I least I think he’s a human, after an hour with Talk to Me Human I am no longer sure as I since was. Part of me thinks I may have been talking to Skynet.

On X we talked about where we lived, gaming interests, and the like and all the while talking about the game Max has been working on called Talk to Me Human – which has just gone into Early Access and is billed as “The talking your way out of it simulator!”

Whether Max was AI or not. I agreed to have a look at it as I usually do and dug a little deeper.

Talk to Me Human features a cast of AI NPCs who interact with you on the fly depending on your responses. They are all AI-driven and are your friends and associates in the game. You have “normal” conversations with them and you score points depending on what you say – they basically mark your social skills.

Now when I say you have normal conversations with them, I mean ‘conversations’ – you speak into your microphone, the game translates your speech to text via AI, and the AI judges how you dealt with the scenario. It’s all a bit mind-blowing.

The game starts with your roommate telling you your cat has gone missing so you have to go down to the pound where you will have an interaction of talking to your cat – actually talking mind – while it meows back at you.

I won’t spoil the plot because immediately after you have finished reading this you are going to go and pay your $5 for early access to try out but the tagline is “a game where you use your voice to get out of sticky situations,” and this is a super accurate description of events! Max describes the mechanics of the game as follows:

Encounter: Find yourself in unexpected, awkward, and humorous scenarios.
Explain: Lie, misdirect, compliment, coerce — the choices are endless. Speak out loud!
Receive Judgment: The AI decides if you pass or fail. You can always try again!

The game is entirely played within your browser and suggest using Chrome rather than Edge when you start. I used Edge because I am a rebel and once I had given access to the microphone things worked pretty much flawlessly.

Leaving and logging back in restarts you at the point where you left so you never feel pressured to carry on.

To get a full understanding of what is happening, because I have no doubt you still have no real clue from these words I suggest you watch the above trailer to get a feel for the flow. The voice “acting” is good and the characters believable, even if they are occasionally a little robotic – I mean think back to Skyrims NPCs and then we will acknowledge that complaint in context. Apart from the subject matter, it’s just all so, well, real.

Max told me that half the levels are complete in the EA version and the mechanics are pretty much what the final game will encompass so really we are just waiting on the extra scenarios.

Originally he planned for the game to take three months but has “just passed 1 year working on it and it’s (only) half done.”

A truly novel gaming experience

By trade Max is a “natural language processing researcher” a computer scientist with an interest in gaming and AI who on his website describes his journey so far thus:

“I’ve started an indie bootstrapped (self-funded) software studio. I’m calling it Least Significant Bit. My goal is to make small pieces of delightful software and sell them commercially. Kind of a mom-and-pop software shop.

It may fail entirely. Then I’d go get a normal job. But I knew I wanted to try, and it felt like the time was now or never. So it’s now.

And, I recently launched my first product—a game! I think it’s a totally new kind of game. I’m biased, of course. But it feels like something truly novel.”

And we are behind that, and what has been achieved so far that is unlike any “game” I have ever played in decades of doing this gig.

What we have here could almost be described in some ways as a social trainer. If you are somebody who is not overly comfortable speaking to people, you could give this a go with no fear of social anxiety. If you just want to have a bit of fun talking to robots and ‘humans’ you can do that too. Maybe try and be nice for once!

The possibilities are endless, as long as the AI behaves itself. This is just a brief first look at Talk to Me Human. We will be talking to Max more about how it all works, how he put it together, and where it could eventually lead in a follow-up soon.

It seems like we’ve been waiting an age for Black Myth: Wukong to come out but we now finally have a release date – for some platforms at least…

Black Myth: Wukong will release on August 20, 2024 on PS5 and PC. Xbox owners, however, will have to wait longer.

This is due to the game not meeting Game Science’s “quality standards”, therefore needing some more time to cook in the oven.

As of right now, there is no new release date for Xbox consoles. So, unfortunately, it’s just a waiting game for when Black Myth: Wukong will be ready on those devices.

If you’re an Apple iPhone fan but not bothered about having all the latest bells and whistles that tend to come with modern smartphones, then the affordable iPhone SE is perfect for you.

While Apple’s flagship iPhones come out each year with all the latest technology, features and perks, the iPhone SE is designed to be an entry-level version and as a result, doesn’t follow the same release schedule as its older siblings.

The third-generation iPhone SE was released two years ago. It kept the home button while the more premium iPhone editions removed it in favour of a full touch screen display and facial recognition unlocking, while its design remained outdated compared to newer models. It also lacked many of the standard features you would expect to find in an iPhone, including trivial things such as night mode photos.

Here’s what we know so far about a possible future iPhone SE 4.

iPhone SE 4: What we know so far

As its been two years since the last instalment of the iPhone SE range, it would be fair to expect a number of upgrades to a fourth-generation handset.

That’s what leaks, reports and rumors and pointing towards at the moment, with pretty big improvements being touted.

It’s not surprising, though. Apple have somewhat fallen behind the curve in the mid-range, affordable smartphone market. Google has the Pixel 8a and Samsung has its A Series, both of which provide the types of features many would come to expect in a premium, top-of-the-range smartphone.

So Apple has a lot of catching up to do if they want to remain competitive in this market, as the iPhone SE 3 no longer matches up to its mid-range competitors.

Design

The iPhone SE 3 is the smallest device in Apple’s iPhone line-up, with a 4.7-inch display, and is modelled on the iPhone 8 in terms of its thick bezels and Touch ID home button.

Rumours reported by Mac Rumours suggest the iPhone SE 4 will ditch the Touch ID home button and join the rest of the flagship iPhone lineup in having an all-screen display, while the overall design is expected to look similar to the iPhone 14. Meanwhile, John Prosser believes the SE 4 will adopt a similar design to the iPhone XR.

Leaked CAD renders, though, suggest it’s likely going to be similar to the iPhone 14 after all.

We could also see the first introduction of the notch to the SE range, thanks to the removal of the Touch ID home button, allowing for a front-facing camera and, likely, Face ID.

One thing we can be certain of is the introduction of a USB-C charging port, thanks to the EU’s ruling that every smartphone must have it by 2024.

One of the biggest and most surprising rumours out there at the moment is the potential inclusion of the Action Button on the iPhone SE 4.

The action button, which allows users to programme shortcuts, is currently exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, so it would be an interesting decision to offer what is a premium feature on a mid-range iPhone. However, this may just be an indication that the Action Button will simply become standard on all future iPhones, regardless of size and quality.

Display

All of Apple’s iPhones have OLED technology, with the exception of the SE 3, which has an LCD display.

Therefore, it’s likely the fourth-generation SE will OLED technology.

Screen Size

If Apple are modelling the SE 4 on the iPhone 14, then we can likely expect a 6.1-inch display, according to Mac Rumours.

That’s obviously much bigger than the current 4.7-inch display on the third-generation SE, so those who prefer a smaller, more compact handset might be disappointed.

There are currently no indications that Apple will keep the smaller size display and that’s fair enough if it’s the iPhone 14 they’re modelling on.

Specs

There is an expectation that the iPhone SE 4 will get a prior-generation chip. That was the case with the SE 3, which boasts the same A15 chip that was in the iPhone 13 and iPhone 14. What chipset it gets is still up for debate, but it’s likely we’ll see a significant upgrade here. Some are suggesting it will boast the same processor as Apple’s most recent flagship phone, so this will all depend on when the phone is released and what iPhone came before it.

In terms of storage, recent rumors suggest the iPhone SE 4 will boast 6GB of RAM and will offer two storage options – 128GB and 512GB. That removes the the smaller 64GB option and brings it inline with the rest of the iPhone family.

There are suggestions that the iPhone SE 4 could have an Apple-made 5G chip and 5G modem.

Camera

There is likely to be a camera upgrade in the iPhone SE 4. The current third-generation SE boasts a single-lens, 12-megapixel camera but rumours suggest the SE 4 will be upgraded to a single-lens 48-megapixel camera.

While the iPhone 14 has a dual-lens camera, it’s believed the SE 4 will keep a single-lens in order to keep costs down.

When will the iPhone SE 4 be released?

This is all still up in the air as it’s still early in the production process. The iPhone SE release schedule hasn’t followed the same pattern as the company’s flagship models. The first iPhone SE arrived in March 2016 and we didn’t get a second-generation until April 2020. The third-generation SE came in March 22.

One thing is almost certain, and that’s that we won’t see anything in 2024. As a result, a Spring 2025 release is more likely at the very earliest. This is backed up by analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who claimed in April 2023 that a fourth generation iPhone SE wasn’t on Apple’s roadmap for 2024/2025.

How much will the iPhone SE 4 cost?

The iPhone SE 3 hit the shelves at $429, which was a small increase on the SE 2’s $399.

We can expect to see another increase for the SE 4, with some reports claiming it to be $499. Any higher, and Apple risk competitiveness in the mid-range market.

The means $499 is arguably going to be the absolute maximum Apple will go to in terms of pricing.

However, as it’s still very early days in the production of the iPhone SE 4, this remains speculation.
