If you are remotely interested in the world of emulation you will be aware of Dolphin – the venerable old Nintendo Game Cube Emulator and Wii emulator that was one of the first emulators that really made people sit up and notice that you could play older systems on your PC.

Somehow it has been some eight years since we got Dolphin Emulator 5, and while it has had some 22,000 commits to the project in that time, the iterative updates have never actually led to a new version. That is until now.

Now we are getting, not Dolphin 6 (even though it is really) but what the devs are referring to as simply Dolphin Emulator.

In a blog post they said: “Eight years have passed since that great release, and we have seen the dividends of that effort time and time again. Dolphin has seen constant updates, with new features and enhancements coming side by side with bug fixes and stability improvements. Users are now able to upgrade without fear, knowing that even in the unlikely event of a bug it will be fixed within hours. And of the thousands of titles that Dolphin can run, the number that do not function can now be counted on one hand!

All of this was achieved without a new release. In fact, Dolphin has been in the 5.0 era longer than any other, and with almost twenty-two thousand commits over the past eight years, the 5.0 era now makes up over half of Dolphin’s entire commit history! But users haven’t forgotten our past releases. They have been waiting for years, patiently anticipating when our next release may arrive.

That wait ends today.”

With this news version numbering is gone as Dolphin moves now to a date-based numbering system.

They have also made “a commitment to continuous releases from now on. The long drought of Dolphin releases is no more and will never happen again!”

Today sees the first new release Dolphin 2407 – with the numbers obviously referring to the year and month of release.

Draft Kings is the reigning number one bookmaker in Ohio, according to the first quarter metrics of 2024, unseating rival FanDuel.

Ohio online betting dominated by Draft kings

According to Play Ohio, the Ohio Casino Control Commission numbers show that DraftKings raked in $116.2 million, and FanDuel accepted $106.7 million in wagering.

This $10 million difference in the takings is significant in the grand scheme of the state’s bookmaking income. Gov. Mike DeWine signed bill HB 29 into law, marking the state’s intent to support sports betting since New Year’s Day of 2023.

Since Ohio greenlit online sports betting in January 2023, the battle for the top spot has been fierce but incredibly profitable for the state’s tax revenue in a short space of time—many other U.S. states have had decades of revenue from online bookmakers in comparison.

The small margin between the two shows the competition for the state’s residents’ hard-earned cash, and FanDuel will be looking to come out on top over the next few months.

With the football season on the horizon, all bookmakers in the Buckeye State will be ramping up their advertising revenue. Ohio is known for its fierce love of football at the college and NFL levels, and it is the home of the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Ohio basking in online betting takings

Both companies benefit the state as they continue to turn over millions of betting dollars. Since January 2024, both have contributed massively ($222.7 million) to the $319.6 million overall spending on sports bets.

Compared to traditional in-person betting, this figure dwarfs the state’s $11.5 million in sports bets in physical locations. In contrast, these fourteen brick-and-mortar stores reported revenue of $1.2 million.

FanDuel has a few things to be happy about since Ohio made online sportsbooks part of the betting infrastructure. The company has dominated the state overall in revenue since January, with a total of $13.9 million in revenue compared to Draft Kings’ $11.8 million.

It remains to be seen who will be the gridiron monarch once football season ends, but both Draft Kings and FanDuel are definitely in the running.

However, one specific item in the game that is tripping many up is the Amorphous Material. Getting it isn’t really the issue, it’s opening it that most are struggling with.

Below, we’ll reveal exactly how to open Amorphous Material in The First Descendant so you can get to using this precious item.

How to open The First Descendant Amorphous Material

Once you get your hands on some Amorphous Material in The First Descendant by completing Zone Recon missions or Special Operations, for example, you’ll want to open them so you can actually use them.

To open Amorphous Material, you’ll need to finish Void Intercepts or Void Fusion Reactor missions, since defeating the boss at the end of these will allow you to use the device required.

This is called the Reconstructed Device, and you can’t really miss it since it’s essentially a large floating ball, and since you’re at the end of the mission anyway, there’s not much else to do other than look around for it.

Once you interact with the Reconstructed Device, you’ll have three options to choose from. Don’t accidentally pick the wrong thing if you’re chasing an item to unlock a specific character.

For example, when looking to unlock Bunny, you’ll have to pick the Bunny Pattern which grants you the Bunny Code – something brand new players might simply miss and be at a loss as to how to get this much-desired Descendant.

And there you have it, you should be able to crack open those Amorphous Materials with ease now. Just make sure you use that Reconstructed Device before ending the mission you’re on!

WhatsApp is getting on board the AI craze as a leak suggests a new ‘Imagine Me’ feature is being developed which will allow users to generate images of themselves using Meta AI.

While the name isn’t yet officially known, WABetaInfo has shared the news of the leak which they say is under development. It’s not even available for beta testers just yet.

In a screenshot shared about the AI ‘Imagine Me’ feature, a pop-up can be seen that says: “Imagine yourself as anything. Take photos of yourself once, then imagine yourself in any setting from the forest to outer space.”

An initial set of photos is required but this can then be used to create a wide range of other images. To generate the AI images, users must simply type ‘Imagine me…’ in the Meta AI chat.

People will be able to use these features in other chats by typing ‘@Meta imagine me…’ followed by anything that your wildest dreams can think of.

It’s believed this feature will be available in a future update and will be optional, meaning users will have to opt-in to use it. This will likely be done through manually enabling it in settings before taking the initial set of photos.

Meta AI making WhatsApp’s new ‘Imagine Me’ feature possible

Meta is the parent company of WhatsApp (along with Facebook, Instagram, and Threads) so it makes sense that their AI assistant will be making its way to all of its platforms.

The assistant is driven by Meta Lama 3 which is a large language model that allows users to ask the tool anything. The team has already explained how the chatbot has an ‘Imagine’ feature that can generate AI-prompted images in real-time so this could soon be seen across all of its apps.

These images can also be animated with a prompt and converted into a GIF to send across Meta’s many social channels.

Meta is officially lifting its ban on the Arabic word ‘shaheed’ which translates to ‘martyr’ in English.

It’s a word that has accounted for more content removals on the company’s platforms than any other single word or phrase.

The company’s oversight board has embarked on a year-long review which led to them finding the social media giant’s approach was ‘overboard.’

In the recommendations, the board said the word ‘shaheed’ should be allowed “in all instances unless the content otherwise violates our policies or is shared with one or more of three signals of violence.”

The board is funded by the parent company of Facebook and Instagram but operates independently. They said: “Meta should stop presuming that the word ‘shaheed,’ when used to refer to a designated individual or unnamed member of designated organizations, is always violating and ineligible for policy exceptions.”

The assessment included extensive research from academic, non-profit, and advocacy researchers, as well as outreach with over 40 stakeholders and organizations across Europe, the Middle East and North Africa, Sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia, Asia Pacific, and North America.

Meta acknowledges moderating ‘shaeed’ didn’t work

On Tuesday (July 2) Meta acknowledged the findings from the independent board stating their tests showed removing content where “shaheed” was “paired with otherwise violating content captures the most potentially harmful content without disproportionately impacting the voice.”

On Meta’s transparency page, they said: “We welcome the Board’s guidance in this recommendation and are in the process of assessing the most feasible approach to implanting it.

“As part of this assessment, we will examine the types of content that would be allowed on our platforms if we only consider the three signals of violence the Board identified in its Opinion, rather than the broader set of six signals we proposed.”

The oversight board has welcomed the change in the policy as we advance and said that the previous stance had censored millions of people across the platforms.

It’s not the first time that Meta’s policies have been scrutinized, as a 2021 study commissioned by the company found that they had an “adverse human rights impact” on Palestinians and other Arabic-speaking users. This was due to the handling of Middle Eastern content.

Those criticisms have escalated since the onset of hostilities between Israel and Hamas in October.

Xbox users experienced a widespread outage yesterday (July 2) which meant many were unable to sign in, download games, and even play online.

This was much more than rebooting and trying again for gamers as the platform became fraught with technical issues, causing difficulties with most features.

The issue began around 2PM ET, with Downdetector seeing a high of 32,222 issues reported. Amongst them, 75% of people said they had issues with login, 21% with server connection, and 4% with game play.

A notice also appeared on the company’s status page which read: “You may not be able to sign-in to your Xbox profile, may be disconnected while signed in, or have other related problems.

“Features that require sign-in like most games, apps and social activity won’t be available.”

At 4:10pm ET, Xbox said the investigation was “taking longer than expected” as they thanked people for their patience and reports.

It wasn’t resolved until around 9pm ET, meaning the downtime lasted seven hours. Xbox Support took to X to let everyone know all features should be working as normal: “Users should no longer be encountering issues signing in to Xbox Live and services.

“Thank you for your patience, game on!”

The reason for the outage isn’t yet known and hasn’t been expanded on by the Microsoft-owned company.

Xbox gamers left furious about seven hour outage

While updates were given frequently by the support team, it didn’t stop people taking to X to complain about the service (or lack thereof!)

One user, named Zach, said: “I mean how often is this happening once or twice a week I want my money back.”

It’s a hugely busy week for HoYoverse as not only does it have the launch of Zenless Zone Zero, but we are also getting the live stream that will tell us all we need to know about the latest version of Genshin Impact – 4.8.

If you are a Genshin player the live stream is always worth checking out, not only to find out what is upcoming in the game but also because during it, codes drop that allow you to get free Primogems in-game. Don’t worry if you can’t watch it though as we will be publishing the codes right here too. The codes generally only last a few hours so you will need to be on the ball, but as long as you don’t dally too much you should be fine.

When is the Genshin Impact 4.8 livestream?

The Genshin Impact 4.8 livestream will take place on July 5th. So far we have seen artwork featuring Nilou, Kirara, Lumine, and Emilie so we expect news on those.

The event will be streamed at 08.05 AM (UTC-4).

Zenless Zone Zero (ZZZ) is the game from Hoyoverse and like its stablemates is another gacha roleplaying game for you to try your hand at. But what is it, when is it out and what can we expect? Could it even challenge Genshin Impact for the crown long term?

When is Zenless Zone Zero released?

We see Zenless Zone Zero in your future very soon from now. Set to officially launch on the 4th of July 2024 (tomorrow at the time of writing) but you can preload the game on all formats now so you can dive straight in when the time arrives. And we suggest you do that because, well, servers.

What is Zenless Zone Zero?

ZZZ is the latest gacha title from HoYoverse and was originally announced back in the middle of 2022. It then only received its final launch date a few weeks back so the last two years have been a busy time for the devs and we are about to see the fruits of their labors.

In Zenless Zone Zero you play the role of a Proxy – a character who helps others explore a hostile dimension called Hollows.

The setting is more post-apocalyptic in nature than HoYoVerse’s other games and the planet of New Eridu is set to become a popular urban location for fans of the genre.

What platforms is Zenless Zone Zero on?

Zenless Zone Zeri will be playable on PC, PS5, and mobile devices (Android/iOS) from launch which is different from HoYoverse’s previous games which have had staggered launches across the formats. The company is now obviously confident enough to do a simultaneous mass launch.

If you want the mobile versions just head to your respective store.

If you wish to play on PC you need to grab the launcher from the HoYo Play website and create an account if you are a HoYo noob. Remember to start the game once you have installed it and it will download any bits you need ahead of the game going live. It, like other HoYoverse games, will also be available on the Epic Games Store,

The PlayStation Store is selling a ZZZ Pre-order bundle for $10 (other versions are free) but this includes in-game items and currency to get you going. It is a bit weird though that is costs cash here.

What is a gacha game?

Based loosely on the Japanese vending machines that spit out random toys in a capsule in what is known as the Gashapon system, gacha games have you paying for your boxes and packs in the hope you get something good inside that you can use in your game. This differs from Loot Boxes which are generally cosmetic. Games like Madden and EAFC straddle the line with their Ultimate Team packs.

Items within the packs vary in rarity and, unless Lady Luck is with you, it could cost a considerable amount of money before you get the in-game item that you need. This has seen the mechanics compared in some parts of the world to gambling.
