Concord is yet another team-based shooter that we here at Readwrite Gaming are tipping to do very well at launch, and while the game doesn’t come out officially until 23rd August there are two public beta test events ahead of that where you can put the game through its paces. To do so however, you are going to need a PC that is up to spec, so we will have a look at the just released specifications ahead of the betas, but first, let’s check out how to get into them and when they actually are.

When are the Concord betas being held?

The Concord betas are set to run on two consecutive weekends, starting from this one. To get into both you will have to have pre-ordered the game. For the second, as long as you have a PC or a PlayStation 5 you are good to go.

Concord Early Access Beta – July 12-14th

Concord Open Beta – July 18-21st

As is Sony’s way these days you will need a PlayStation account (a free one will do) on either PC or PS5 to be able to join in the fun.

Microsoft is finally bringing out a crucial and long-awaited feature for Notepad as part of a Windows 11 update.

After 41 years out in the world, Microsoft’s Notepad app will finally get spellcheck and autocorrect. The two features are so commonplace as to be virtually standard issue across most other digital services but have not yet been present in the note-taking app.

Microsoft has of course already introduced spellcheck in Word and the feature in Notepad is thought to look much the same. Namely, it will use a red underline to show mistakes. The key difference is that right-clicking requires a double click to see a suggested menu of correct options, while in Word it takes just one.

The feature has been tested in Notepad since March and is now being quietly rolled out in gradual waves for Windows 11 users.

Microsoft first launched spellcheck in Word in 1985, meaning there have been almost four decades where the company could have translated into Notepad. However, the plain text app was also meant to be a less complex version of Word, perhaps offering a reason as to why it was never in place.

How to use spellcheck and autocorrect in Notepad

You can enable or disable spellcheck on a file-by-file basis in Notepad. You can toggle off corrections like .md, .srt, .lrc, or .lic within the settings. It will be automatically disabled in log files and other coding-related file types.

If you don’t already have access to spellcheck, make sure you’re using Windows 11, as it’s only available in the latest software. Otherwise, it might not have rolled out to you yet, so wait a few days to see if it becomes available.

Autocorrect can also be similarly disabled and enabled in the settings, offering the ability to automatically correct spellings. It can also be toggled on and off between individual files.

If you simply can’t wait for the upcoming open-world reboot of Crazy Taxi, then the next best thing may be to install a mod that tips more than a wink to the venerable old classic arcade game and bolts it firmly onto the side of one of the best games in recent years (these days at least).

The new Taxi Work in Night City mod for Cyberpunk 2077 sets you up for a little Uber-esque roleplay in the future by giving you a taxi firm to run. The mod will see you driving around the city and picking up passengers before ferrying them to their destination. They will then pay your fare and depending on how efficient you were, and how much danger they were in they will adjust it accordingly – so Crazy Taxi then. With Keanu Reeves.

The mod has been developed by verified Nexus Modder RollermineC who also has a smattering of other Cyberpunk 2077 mods to their name, but nothing on the scale of this.

The mod has been out less than a day so far and already has downloads heading towards 300 downloads. RollermineC actually says the mod is more based on Grand Theft Auto but it is impossible not to see the Crazy Taxi similarities.

The description reads, “This mod introduces a taxi mission inspired by the GTA series. Players need to pick up the customers and drive them to their destinations. After each successful fare, players earn money based on the distance between the start and finish points. Consistently completing fares unlocks new vehicle options from Autofixer, enabling players to eventually own vehicles from Combat Cab.”

The Side Quest feature of Cyberpunk 2077 has been a hugely popular way for modders to add new content into the game that was once much-maligned but has now been revamped into one of the best games in modern times by CD Projekt Red.

A travel business that deploys AI software to help people book package vacations is announcing the close of an oversubscribed £5.04 million (roughly $6.45M) Series A round.

Heartcore Capital has led the funding with participation from Eka Ventures and re-investing angels. The money raised by Byway will be used to expand into new regions, with the company saying they plan to add more hires too.

This will include engineers as they aim to dial up the proprietary AI-based software that acts as a travel planner.

At the moment, 60% of Byway’s company is based on AI as customers book trips online through the trip-designing software called JourneyAI. The remainder, at 40%, is a human-based concierge service where staff can talk to potential customers.

How does Byway’s travel AI tool work?

The Byway planner recommends certain trips to users and does so by drawing on information sources and contexts to build packages. This includes transport timetables and fare information, as well as the details inputted by the customer.

In a conversation with TechCrunch, the founder Cat Jones explains how the AI takes into account the information the company has on previous trips that were well received.

Unlike other travel tools, Byway focuses on flight-free travel. Jones explains how the funding will be used to perfect the AI when it comes to disruptions: “We are still manually sorting disruption at the moment. But actually that’s something that, very soon, especially with the funding – we will be able to automate the vast majority of our disruption detection and automation disruption replanning.

“So that we can alert people and say, ‘Look, your trip’s been disrupted here. Your train’s running a bit late, you’re going to miss the connection — here’s the reworked bit that we’ve done for you. And then, yeah, absolutely talk to us if you want to. But actually, if you’re just happy with that you can just accept it and off we go.”

The founder hopes the funding will help with further improving the AI’s responsiveness too, as she says the technology needs to become more detailed.

“You can get this general model where we have particular local nuances, but — increasingly — the more regions that we go into, the more local nuance the JourneyAI technology needs to have within it.

“But we are, kind of, in a place where we’re going, ‘Gosh, we understand it; we already know now that it needs this, and it needs this, and it needs this’. And actually our biggest problem is we don’t have very many developers… So we’ve got this back-end roadmap for JourneyAI but we haven’t got enough back-end tech people to run as quickly as we’d like at that roadmap, and then the same in the front end… Hence this fundraising.”

Ethereum’s (ETH) Ethereum Foundation is initiating its first hackathon, dubbed “Attackathon,” with a $2 million reward pool.

According to a July 8 announcement, the event aims to conduct a comprehensive security audit of the blockchain’s codebase through crowdsourcing. The Ethereum Protocol Security (EPS) team announced on July 8 that the four-week challenge will invite security researchers to seek vulnerabilities in the protocol’s code actively.

Participants must adhere to specific competition rules, with rewards granted only for impactful and compliant reports. The event will commence with a technical overview of Ethereum’s code to prepare participants for identifying potential vulnerabilities.

Upon conclusion, bug bounty platform Immunefi will compile the findings into a detailed vulnerability report. The EPS team has contributed $500,000 to the prize pool and is seeking sponsors to raise an additional $1.5 million by August 1, when further details will be released.

Not the last hackathon

Similar hackathons are planned for future hard forks to address codebase changes. The next major upgrade, “Pectra,” combining the “Prague” and “Electra” updates, is anticipated in late 2024 or early 2025.

Noteworthy upcoming features include a “social recovery” option, potentially eliminating the need for lengthy private wallet keys and introducing smart contract-like capabilities to wallets.

Hackathons and bug bounties are common in the crypto space, with many projects offering substantial rewards to ethical hackers. Immunefi’s platform displays bounties ranging from tens to hundreds of thousands of dollars, with LayerZero offering the highest reward at $15 million.

MakerDAO is not that far behind, with a $10 million bounty pool followed by SparkLend’s bug bounty reward pool at $5 million. Still, such bug bounties are far from being a new crypto fad.

As ReadWrite reported back in 2012 about Google offering a $1 million bug bounty pool for discovering vulnerabilities in its Google Chrome web browser. A full exploit of bugs in Chrome itself was prized at $60,000, a partial exploit that combines a Chrome bug with other bugs gets $40,000, and the consolation prize is $20,000 an exploit of Chrome using bugs in Flash, Windows or something else.

Dog-themed meme coins are the best altcoins during this bear market, but which one should you buy for a chance at 20x returns?

Let’s talk about whether it’s the right time to invest in the crypto market. For those who have been hesitant, watching the market rise and fall over the past few weeks, this analysis should help.

The crypto market has been volatile lately, with Bitcoin moving sideways since March. It reached a high of $73,800, and if it breaks above this level, prices could soar to $80,000 or even $100,000.

This big movement is expected around September when the Federal Reserve in the U.S. might reduce interest rates. High interest rates make holding USD attractive, but a reduction will likely push money into the crypto market, leading to big gains.

Even with the market’s ups and downs, there are still great opportunities. Bitcoin’s price is moving between $60,000 and $71,000, and it’s currently at the lower end of this range, making it a good time to buy. But what should you invest in?

Dog-themed meme coins are currently very popular. Dogecoin, with a market cap of $15 billion, has been the star of this market. If you could go back in time and buy Dogecoin at its start, you’d have made big profits by now.

There are still chances to invest in newer coins. For example, DOG GO TO THE MOON launched in April and reached a $500 million market cap in less than a month and a half. However, the initial surge of DOG GO TO THE MOON might be over.

The next dog-themed meme coin expected to explode is Base Dawgz (DAWGZ).

Multi-chain meme coin raises $2.4 million now

Base Dawgz (DAWGZ) is a new dog-themed meme coin in its pre-sale phase. It has raised $2.4 million from an initial $300,000 in just over a month, showing strong interest and growth potential.

You have six days before the next price increase, with one $DAWGZ currently priced at $0.0061. Potential investors can visit our guide on how to buy Base Dawgz tokens here.

The multi-chain feature is Base Dawgz’s biggest strength. It isn’t just another cryptocurrency; it will run on five chains at the same time.

Base Dawgz will be available on Base, Ethereum, BSC, Solana, and Avalanche, giving you the flexibility to buy on your preferred chain. Designed for those who seek adventure and innovation, Base Dawgz promises a unique multi-chain experience.

Base $DAWGZ – a #memecoin inspired by base jumping and #ShibaInu memes. Currently in pre-sale, @BaseDawgz will live on #Coinbase‘s base chain and trade across $ETH, $SOL, BSC, and AVAX. Head over and join in on the fun ⬇️🐩https://t.co/jAiw7eQFxX pic.twitter.com/gxRU81Ndxc

Bitcoin.com News X account announced that Base Dawgz is currently in presale. It will operate on Coinbase’s base chain and trade on $ETH, $SOL, BSC, and AVAX.

For peace of mind, the Base Dawgz smart contract has passed a full audit by Solid Proof, confirming there are no issues in its code. Stay updated with the latest news and developments by joining the Base Dawgz community on X and Telegram.

Base Dawgz (DAWGZ)- Staking and referral features

Base Dawgz (DAWGZ), a popular meme coin that started its presale a few weeks ago, teased on X recently about upcoming major news.

The announcement came the next day, on July 4, revealing the new staking system. Staking became available to all $DAWGZ holders immediately upon token purchase, allowing even early buyers to participate.

On its website, the project explained that staking requires $DAWGZ holders to lock their tokens into a smart contract for a fixed period. In return, they receive additional $DAWGZ tokens at a variable rate over time. Notably, staking was launched on Ethereum’s network, operating on ETH’s Layer 1 blockchain rather than Base’s own L2 chain.

In a positive move for $DAWGZ, investors can expect hourly distributions totaling 192,000 $DAWGZ tokens over the next year. This schedule allows for continuous compounding of holdings, maximizing potential gains each hour.

Distribution begins 24 hours after staking starts, ensuring all investors have an equal chance to lock in tokens and earn rewards. Retroactive rewards for presale buyers will be available soon.

Earlier, the project introduced a Refer-and-Earn feature, where community members can earn commissions by promoting the project on social media. This feature incentivizes holders to help grow the community.

This feature is now active, and you can generate a referral code on the project’s website by clicking the “refer and earn” button. If you successfully refer someone, you’ll get 10% of their presale investment in USDT after the IEO ends.

With a variety of unique utilities and functionalities, alongside a strategic launch on Base, Base Dawgz is well-positioned for success. To participate in the $DAWGZ token presale, visit basedawgz.com.

The concept of the Battle Pass has been embraced by many a gamer over the years but its insidious creep into the major organs of our bank accounts continues unabated.

Preying on gamers’ innate desire to chalk off progression things started simply enough – gain some XP, move up a level which would then give you an utterly worthless cosmetic such as a stripy gun, but, more deeply when you are waiting in a lobby, a means of comparing yourself to other players. Not that this was an accurate comparison because largely it was a sign of time played over skill, but it was a badge no less, and it would cost you a few dollars per “season” to do it again and again.

Fair enough to a point in games such as Apex Legends, which are free to jump into so throwing a bit back the devs way for the fun you were having seemed okay (for devs read Electronic Arts / Respawn).

Then, games that were full price started having a Battle Pass as well, so you’d be paying $70 for the game then effectively a Netflix-esque subscription every few weeks on top. Of course, only the most loyal players continue to buy them – if you dipped in and out it means nothing to the publishers. There did used to be a world where the loyal customers got rewarded, not fleeced, but that friends, is not the world we live in anymore.

Following this move now Battle Passes and cosmetics have made their way into the most pointless of areas – single-player games. You can’t even show off what you have got to anybody. Where is that shrugging emoji?

Amongst it all, though there was one light and one that Fortnite and Apex Legends kept lit because progressing far enough through a battle pass would generally award you enough free in-game currency to get the next one – a reward if you like.

Cue the realization in the board room when it dawned on the money men this was costing them cash and that brings us to today, where Apex Legends players are up in arms and threatening to boycott the hugely popular shooter because changes have been made that can only ever benefit the corporation behind it.

A traditional Apex Battle Pass used to cost 1,000 Apex Coins which would set you back $9.99/£8.99. Once you had bought one you would then earn coins throughout and generally at least have some towards the next one. LOOPHOLE the commercial guys shouted.

Now, going forward Apex will have TWO Battle Passes per season and you have to buy them both with real money. No more Apex coin farming. Get your cards out.

Starting with Season 22, we’re evolving the Apex Legends Battle Pass to improve your experience and progression goals.

Read on to learn everything to know about the upcoming changes or check out the infographic below to learn more.

— Apex Legends (@PlayApex) July 8, 2024

Starting with Season 22, we’re evolving the Apex Legends Battle Pass to improve your experience and progression goals.”

I have rewritten this sentence three times before settling on the more sedate. “Ooh, thanks.”

“We’ll get into it for those that love the details, but here’s the gist: shorter Battle Pass with one for each split, revamped rewards, and purchased with IRL currency with a new cost for Premium+,”

So shorter, and costs more, and I will finish it quicker and buy the second one. And they are really magic beans you say?

Seriously.

The fanbase and social media have reacted as you and I knew they would – this feels like something EA may end up backtracking on, but if they do why didn’t it envisage this, and if they don’t, well don’t be surprised because money men don’t care about the little guy.

Here are a few of the more publishable comments you can find out there:

“This is what happens when the user acquisition phase ends and the mask comes off. Happens to every business, mr nice guys until they hit their target audience numbers then they squeeze”

“Bringing more cosmetic rewards with a battlepass that’s only purchasable with actual money and not Apex coins isn’t going to pump up the player count, it’s just going to make EA more money. They don’t care if the game is improving via QoL, balance, or new additions.”

“So they are in full “milk the whales before the ship sinks” mode now? Guessed as much with those ridiculous death box cosmetics.”

“The whole nice thing about the Apex battle pass was that if you grinded it (which took forever btw) you got the next one free. Glad I stopped playing this game.”

It’s hard to see how this model keeps the causal player buying and is unlikely to be the end of this story. Grab the popcorn and watch this space.

GOP organization Republican National Committee has unveiled a new platform that strongly supports crypto innovation, as revealed in a document released on Monday.

The document in question outlines the party’s priorities heading into the November election, with presumptive presidential nominee Donald Trump and Republican congressional candidates at the forefront. The document reads:

Republicans will end Democrats’ unlawful and unAmerican Crypto crackdown and oppose the creation of a Central Bank Digital Currency. […] We will defend the right to mine Bitcoin (BTC), and ensure every American has the right to self-custody of their Digital Assets, and transact free from Government Surveillance and Control.

This stance reflects a growing interest in digital assets among Trump and other GOP politicians. Notably, Trump has shifted from his earlier skepticism of cryptocurrency to becoming a strong advocate.

GOP’s crypto endeavors

The presidential candidate has personal experience with digital assets, having launched his own branded non-fungible tokens (NFTs). Furthermore, Trump’s campaign and an affiliated political action committee now accept crypto donations.

While the committee’s top 20 policy “promises” don’t explicitly mention crypto, digital assets are addressed in the economy section under innovation initiatives. A key talking point for Trump and other Republican candidates in the 2024 campaign has been opposition to central bank digital currencies (CBDCs).

Republicans have criticized Democrats for allegedly pushing CBDCs that could enable greater financial surveillance of U.S. citizens. However, Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell and other officials maintain that a potential digital dollar would be managed by the banking system, not the government.

They also assert that such a currency would only be adopted with approval from Congress and the White House. This platform emerges as other jurisdictions, including China and Europe, are actively pursuing government-backed digital tokens, while the U.S. remains in the research phase regarding CBDCs.

GungHo Online Entertainment has announced its latest venture, Disney Pixel RPG, an 8-bit adventure game that brings together a host of cherished Disney characters, including Mickey Mouse, Winnie the Pooh, Genie from Aladdin, and Baymax from Big Hero 6, among others. The upcoming title will have multiple worlds converge and feature fast-paced, strategic gameplay designed to appeal to a broad audience.

What to expect from the new Disney Pixel RPG

Disney Pixel RPG will have a turn-based combat system, which is user-friendly and accessible through simple touch controls, complete with an auto-play option. The game also introduces expeditions, so players can dispatch their Disney characters on quests to collect resources and other items, improving the interactive and immersive nature of the game.

An exciting addition for players is the ability to customize their own avatar within the game, adding a personal touch to their gaming experience. As of now, fans in Japan have the exclusive opportunity to pre-register for the game, which is set for a September 9 release.

The game will be available for free on both Android and iOS platforms, but it will include microtransactions, as seen by its listing on Apple’s App Store. The developers have optimized Disney Pixel RPG for tablet devices, in a bid to maximize the advantages of larger screens without compromising on quality by avoiding letterbox formatting.

In a special promotion, Japanese players who pre-register can enter a drawing to win a ¥10,000 Amazon gift card, adding an extra incentive. While GungHo has not confirmed an international release, the presence of promotional materials in English suggests that it could be launched in other regions.

The character lineup for Disney Pixel RPG features icons like Donald Duck, Goofy, Ariel, Maleficent, Stitch, and Sleeping Beauty. In related news, Disney is also collaborating with Sega on another mobile game, showcasing the company’s ongoing expansion into digital entertainment.

Disney Pixel RPG seems reminiscent of the Kingdom Hearts series but offers a more casual, family-friendly alternative. Disney enthusiasts can also look forward to the return of Epic Mickey later this year with the release of Epic Mickey: Rebrushed, and Kingdom Hearts IV in 2025.
