241 game developers at Bethesda Game Studios (BGS) have unionized with the Communications Workers of America (CWA).

This includes artists, engineers, programmers, and designers. Microsoft, the parent company of Bethesda Games Studios, has recognized the union.

According to the CWA press release on the topic, this marks the first Wall-to-wall union at a Microsoft games studio, meaning all eligible job titles are being represented by one union, rather than just one job class/title. This sets it apart from previous unionization efforts in Microsoft-owned studios, which were centered around QA workers.

A post on X from OneBGS_USA said that members are “ecstatic,” and they hope to “advocate for the betterment of every developer at BGS, setting the new standard for our industry.”

We, a majority of developers at Bethesda Game Studios Dallas, Rockville, and Austin, are ecstatic to announce the formation of our union with @CWAUnion. Together as #OneBGSUSA, we advocate for the betterment of every developer at BGS, setting the new standard for our industry.

— OneBGS_USA (@OneBGS_USA) July 19, 2024

The union’s statement continued, “As a democratic organization, we seek to empower the collective wishes of our studios’ workers; having a safe, sustainable, and equitable work environment for all. Having a proper seat at the discussion table allows us to turn those wishes into reality.

“Joining in solidarity with our fellow members at @ZeniMaxWorkers, @OneBGS_MTL, and all of @CWAUnion, we push for increased job security, compensation transparency, and flexibility to continue creating the games we love.”

This has been met with happiness and excitement across the video games industry and labor unions generally. Johnny Brown, the President of CWA Local 2108 (the chapter of the CWA Bethesda’s Maryland members will be part of) described it as a “groundbreaking achievement, and said, “Workers are taking a step forward to negotiating better working conditions, helping to raise standards across the industry.”

Unions are coming to the video game industry

The video game industry is increasingly turning to organization in the face of existential threats like artificial intelligence. Zenimax union members have previously said that an agreement was reached that “AI would not be used to replace a person’s job.” There have also been unionization efforts in the UK and the IWGB Game Workers Union has spoken out about anti-worker practices at Rockstar as development for Grand Theft Auto 6 reaches a fever pitch.

Video game journalist for Bloomberg, Jason Schrier, said about the Bethesda union, “We’ll likely see many more announcements like this in the coming months and years. Labor in the video game industry has reached a tipping point.”

The 99Bitcoins presale offers a great investment chance, driven by its Learn-to-Earn model and big staking rewards for early investors.

The growing interest in the project has pushed the $99BTC presale past the $2.5 million mark, showing its potential.

Let’s look at what has driven this interest and what the coin can offer in the coming months.

99Bitcoins: Transforming crypto education with rewards

Crypto utility projects are always popular. While meme coins often get the spotlight with their quick gains, utility coins have long-lasting value. Only tokens with real market relevance last over time. This explains the growing interest in 99Bitcoins (99BTC).

Unlike most crypto presale projects, 99Bitcoins doesn’t attract investors with unrealistic promises. The crypto education platform has a strong track record of over ten years. Since 2013, it has helped make complex crypto concepts easier to understand for everyone.

Today, 99Bitcoins has over 709k followers and nearly 3 million email subscribers. Over the years, it has created 79 hours of educational resources on important industry topics. It remains the go-to platform for new crypto investors looking to understand the market.

99Bitcoins is known for making complex market topics easier to understand. The courses are interactive, letting you watch videos, ask questions, take quizzes, and more.

99Bitcoins is now launching a new stage with $99BTC, a reward token for its Learn-to-Earn platform. This platform will encourage more people to learn about crypto. Users who engage with the platform and use its resources will earn $99BTC tokens as rewards.

The gamified learning experience will boost engagement and keep users interested. It will also help the platform reach new audiences. For example, learning technical analysis requires focus, which can be hard with social media distractions. On 99Bitcoins, you earn tokens for completing lessons.

Each time you finish a module and pass the quiz, you get $99BTC tokens. This motivates you to keep learning and improving. The platform covers a range of topics, from crypto basics to meme coins, DeFi, and safety practices. By turning learning into earning, 99Bitcoins is changing the education field.

99Bitcoins presale surge fueled by high staking rewards and airdrop campaign

The strong market interest in 99Bitcoins demonstrates the project’s relevance. The presale frenzy continues, now reaching $2.5 million. Investors can currently purchase $99BTC tokens for just $0.00114.

The low presale prices and attractive staking rewards are driving traffic to the presale. These incentives are designed to encourage early participation, with the staking APY at a remarkable 686% as of now. Staking offers an excellent opportunity to earn passive crypto income.

Since staking for $99BTC begins during the presale, investors can start earning rewards immediately without waiting for the official launch.

Early participants in the presale benefit from the best deals on both price and staking rewards. As the presale progresses, these benefits will diminish. The intense interest in the presale suggests the token is set for a significant launch.

The residual excitement from the presale is likely to propel the token high up the charts on its debut. Following the presale, 99Bitcoins (99BTC) will be listed on various centralized and decentralized exchanges.

To boost presale momentum, 99Bitcoins has launched an engaging airdrop campaign. BTC worth $99,999 will be distributed to 99 community members.

To participate in the airdrop, users must sign up on 99bitcoins.com, follow their social media channels, and submit their Bitcoin wallet address along with the wallet address used in the presale.

The 99Bitcoins X community has grown to 21.6k followers, while the Telegram group has over 4,700 members. You can explore the potential future of 99Bitcoins through our 99Bitcoins price prediction.

99Bitcoins ERC-20 to BRC-20 bridge

The name 99Bitcoins clearly leverages the Bitcoin brand, enhancing its speculative allure. This excitement is setting the stage for a dynamic exchange debut. Additionally, $99BTC will launch as a BRC-20 token on the Bitcoin blockchain.

$99BTC is set to follow in the footsteps of well-known BRC-20 tokens like ORDI, SATS, LEVER, and WZRD this year. However, its real strength lies in its long-term investment potential. As a pioneer in the Learn-to-Earn sector, the coin boasts significant market relevance, with its utility expected to drive organic demand.

The strong brand recognition, innovative Learn-to-Earn reward model, and cross-chain vision position $99BTC for sustained price growth in the years ahead.

It’s not all about touchdowns and Hail Marys when playing football games, there’s the other side of the game too – defense.

One way of directly moving from the back to the front foot though is by getting an interception, scuppering the opposing team’s chances of advancing.

Below, we’ll take you through how to intercept in College Football 25 so you can take advantage of being aggressive, even when the opposition is looking to score.

How to intercept passes in College Football 25

To intercept a pass in College Football 25, control the defensive player that is closest to that of who will be receiving the ball on the opposition team and press Triangle/Y as they’re about to grab it.

Doing so at the right time will hopefully allow you to intercept the ball successfully and turn the tables dramatically.

You’ll also be able to get a little celebration going too, an added incentive if you like a bit of gloating.

If you’re having a hard time though, practice is your best friend. Intercepting is tricky as it requires you to actually get there in perfect time and hitting the button at that precise moment.

Additionally, it may not actually be your fault you fail an interception.

This is due to there being other factors in play such as if you’re not using a highly rated player, thus making that timing even more difficult, probably meaning your hands will be there but they won’t be sticky enough to hold on.

If you do manage to master the interception in College Football 25, it could be the key to a bunch of victories, especially if you play online where any small mistake can spell disaster.

CrowdStrike has launched a new guidance portal following the recent IT outage incident, which has impacted around 8.5 million devices.

The cybersecurity firm in the eye of the storm has stated a “significant” proportion of that figure is now back online, as it published a “Remediation and Guidance Hub” on its website.

The help section provides extensive information on what caused the high-profile error, what systems are affected, and further comments from beleaguered CrowdStrike CEO George Kurtz.

Industry expert and web security consultant Troy Hunt described the matter as “the largest IT outage in history”.

CrowdStrike continues to focus on restoring all systems as soon as possible. Of the approximately 8.5 million Windows devices that were impacted, a significant number are back online and operational.

Together with customers, we tested a new technique to accelerate impacted…

— CrowdStrike (@CrowdStrike) July 21, 2024

The CrowdStrike response continues

With a full recovery still likely to be weeks away, the cybersecurity experts are testing a new technique to reboot systems more efficiently, hoping to expedite a full solution to the breakdown. The help pages also provide links to third-party resources including a restricted knowledge base article to utilize a bootable USB key.

This is similar to a resource deployed by Microsoft yesterday, which will automatically delete the problem channel file, which led to the ominous blue screens.

CrowdStrike also advised of the threat from malicious actors, seeking to take advantage of the current citation. The company blog warned of malware distribution, using “a malicious ZIP archive named crowdstrike-hotfix.zip.”

The company strongly urged its clients to ensure they are only conversing with CrowdStrike representatives through official channels, with the approved guidance from its support team.

At the onset of the incident on Friday, carnage ensued in our connected world with countless systems rendered obsolete, including airlines, broadcasters, and banks. A faulty CrowdStrike update (in its critical Falcon Sensor product which is supposed to prevent cyber strikes from reaching cloud systems) was responsible for the major incident which immediately resulted in a share price plunge of 15%.

Time is ticking m’hearties and the Cursed Sails Pirates of the Caribbean event is well and truly underway in Fortnite. Now if you are the kind of player who likes to max out their rewards from these types of shenanigans you will definitely want to add both available skins for Captain Jack Sparrow to your locker.

Getting one is far easier than getting the other – as long as you are not broke – so let’s have a poke around and see exactly what you need to do to pick them both up before the end of the event at the start of next month.

How to get both Captain Jack Sparrow skins

So, on offer during Cursed Salls are both the regular Captain Jack and the Cursed Jack Sparrow skins. The Cursed Jack Sparrow skin is the skeleton version with the ragged clothes as opposed to the Johnny Depp and his boyish good looks variety (well, back when the film came out anyway – he’s a little more old in the tooth these days of course).

Getting the original Jack Sparrow skin is as simple as getting your wallet out and purchasing the Cursed Sails pass. Doing so will instantly unlock Jack for you and you can be on your way around the island.

The Cursed Jack Sparrow skin, well that is a different kettle of fish that is going to take a fair amount of Fortnite grind on your behalf over the next week or so.

You will need to check out our Cursed Sails Quests page and make sure you complete the quests which will come thick and fast every couple of days in order to accrue Cursed Gold. You are going to need 11,000 in Cursed Gold to be able to get the skin, and you do need to be on the Premium Reward Track in the first place as it is unlockable there, not on the freebie one.

Once you manage to get Cursed Jack it will also unlock his skin for Lego Fortnite as well.

Tesla’s Cybertruck is probably one of the most divisive product launches of all time. You either hate it or love it, and some of that choice may be down to your views on Tesla and Elon Musk.

Whatever your views on Terminator-esque machine, if you play Fortnite it’s looking quite likely you will not be able to avoid it as, according to a prominent Fortnite leaking expert, Epic Games Battle Royale is set to get a Cybertruck collab which will see the angular truck racing around the island and anywhere else you can drive a car in the Fortnite universe.

The image that HypeX posted on X featured some tire tracks and part of what looks like the Cybertruck logo, alongside the words, “NEW TEASER — Cybertruck x Fortnite drops tonight.”

NEW TEASER — Cybertruck x Fortnite drops tonight pic.twitter.com/KNDpA5sgmv

— HYPEX (@HYPEX) July 21, 2024

HypeX is pretty reliable so we would be amazed if this was not a legit leak but it’s fair to say it’s not one that has been universally welcomed by the fan base, who are also playing through a somewhat old tie-in with the Pirates of the Caribbean event that is going on right now as well.

An example of some of the more publishable responses to the news breaking can be found below:

“I speak for everyone when I say that we don’t care at all.”

“first collab that makes me wish on this game’s downfall.”

“But I just spent all my money on Pirates of the Caribbean ”

“First item shop item with 0 sales lets gooooo”

It does seem as though as games add more and more outlandish tie-ins such as this K-Pop one in PUBG or Ghostbusters in Destiny companies are increasingly risking the wrath of the fanbase who don’t care about these commercial product drops.

While Epic has enough goodwill to get away with a lot, commercial product placement which is designed to attract fans of the product being placed into the game is clearly beginning to irritate current players.

Like that will stop anybody.

Last weekend featured the inaugural Glasgow Indie Games Festival in Scotland, featuring demos, talks, and game-themed slam poetry. The event was sold out, but ReadWrite Gaming was lucky enough to get hands-on with some games. Many of the games at GIGF have development teams of just a handful of people, making them all the more impressive. Here’s our roundup of what to keep your eyes open for!

Valley Peaks

Valley Peaks won Best in Show (as voted by attendees) and the demo stand was in use for the whole day. It’s a first-person game filled with frogs with a love of climbing, and it’s your job to put a radio at the peak of each of the local mountains. As a game, it’s as though A Short Hike and Death Stranding had a child.

The demo featured a short introduction to the game’s environment and climbing. Image credit: Tub Club/Those Awesome Guys

A beautiful, wholesome environment and cheerful characters are the set dressing for movement puzzles that rely on using the left bumper for your left hand and the right bumper for your right hand. Climbing is satisfying and fun and reaching the top of a mountain and seeing the gorgeous game world splayed out before you was rewarding.

Valley Peaks releases on Steam on July 24, 2024, and will come out on the Nintendo Switch in the future.

Morgan Metal Detective

Take on the role of Morgan, a teenage girl whose grandfather has left her a metal detector. Explore the quaint Cornish island of Glasden, help the locals, and maybe uncover some mysteries while you’re at it.

The characters in Morgan Metal Detective are charmingly drawn and fully voiced, complete with Cornish accents. The first task you set out to complete is to help a hapless fisherman recover the engagement ring he lost so he can propose to his love, which sets the tone excellently.

Morgan talks to Dave about the lost engagement ring. Image credit: Studio Morgan

It’s a cozy, comforting game, a “love letter to childhood Cornish holidays” and takes inspiration from games like Firewatch and Alba: A Wildlife Adventure, both beloved indie titles.

There’s no release date for Morgan Metal Detective yet, but you can Wishlist it on Steam to keep up with release news.

Apartment Story

Apartment Story is a game about a love triangle and a single gun. On the face of things, it’s a Sims-like life management game where you need to keep struggling journalist Arthur afloat so he can continue to eke out a meager existence.

However, there’s a deeper story unfolding around you as you make cheese sandwiches and watch adult videos, and it will quickly affect how well you’re able to manage the minutia of Arthur’s life. Your roommate is away but Diane desperately needs to get into his locked room. What does she need? Will she forget about it when she and Arthur hit things off?

Arthur contemplates whether to do some work or watch some adult videos. Image credit Blue Rider Interactive

The art style has a retro, low-poly look while still being detailed and engaging, and despite the short demo, we left wanting to know what happens between Arthur, Diane, and the locked door.

Originally planned for a March release, Apartment Story will now be released on 26 September 2024, and you can Wishlist it on Steam now.

The Enjenir

The Enjenir is a very silly physics game. Build intricate, delicate structures in the gridless building system only to watch them fall to pieces as you try and walk The Enjenir across them, QWOP-style.

I was laughing too much to take a photo of my demo of The Enjenir but here’s a catapult from their Steam page. Image credit: PeatyTurf

With the myriad tools available to the player, every level in The Enjenir can be solved in an almost infinite number of ways. Do you want to get over that gap with a bridge, a catapult, or something else? Anything is possible in the physics engine of the game… as long as you can guide The Enjenir to the objective.

On top of hilarious building hijinks, the game looks fantastic and has a glorious “medieval lo-fi” soundtrack to build along to.

The Enjenir is out in Early Access now and has tons of levels ready to go.

While we couldn’t feature every game, every demo was fun and there were some truly novel ideas there – check out the full roster of games on the Glasgow Indie Games Festival website. And if you love the wholesome vibes brought by Valley Peaks and Morgan Metal Detective, check out our roundup of the latest Wholesome Direct.

A credible leaker has shared information about a supposed upcoming story expansion for Mortal Kombat 1.

Mortal Kombat 1 content creator, thethiny, shared in a post on X that an insider (who had proved themselves credible by sharing information about layoffs at NetherRealm Studios before they were announced) had approached them to share details about the supposed expansion.

The leaked script is exactly 1/3rd of the story mode (100 acts) therefore 5 chapters is exactly 1/3rd of 15 chapters.

— thethiny (@thethiny) July 20, 2024

According to the leak, the DLC will include five chapters and will star three characters – Cyrax, Sektor, and Noob Saibot. Thethiny clarified in a reply that “The leaked script is exactly 1/3rd of the story mode (100 acts) therefore 5 chapters is exactly 1/3rd of 15 chapters.”

Also teased was a possible gameplay addition. “You will see Mileena ‘turn into something else’” alongside a photo of a praying mantis and a photo of a pufferfish. Expanding on this in a reply, the creator said “It means Mileena turns into the thing in Picture #1 [praying mantis], only after you perform a Mercy.” Another commenter stated, “That’s her animality.”

Additionally, the creator was able to share the anticipated release date of the expansion – players can expect to see it in September.

Disappointing news for fans of Tag Team game mode

In a second post on X, thethiny said, “Forgot to mention that certain ‘game modes’ are not coming in this update and they might be canceled altogether,” and then further clarified that “I’m not sure if there is no game mode, but the one that I was waiting for specifically isn’t making it in.”

While the creator didn’t specifically state what mode they were waiting for, they have posted extensively about Tag Team game mode, leading to unconfirmed speculation that this is the canceled mode mentioned in the post.

Naturally, it’s prudent to take leaks with a grain of salt, but as mentioned, the insider who shared these details reportedly shared confirmed information in the past.

We won’t have to wait too long to see if the leak is accurate, however, because there will be a trailer debuted this week at San Diego Comic-Con.

Players spent the weekend battling it out at Evo 2024 to determine the ultimate Mortal Kombat player, with the title going to SonicFox.

Bitcoin (BTC) breached the $68,000 resistance level during Sunday night trading in Eastern Standard Time, continuing its upward trajectory.

According to CoinMarketCap data, the leading cryptocurrency is trading at $68,032, up 1.02% in the past 24 hours, after reaching a high of $68,480 earlier today. The broader cryptocurrency market has also seen gains, with a 0.89% increase overall. Solana (SOL) has shown particularly strong performance, rising 4.73% to trade at $182.12.

Rachael Lucas, a crypto analyst at BTC Markets, told The Block attributes this momentum primarily to significant inflows into Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs). U.S. Bitcoin ETFs have experienced positive flows for eleven consecutive days, with BlackRock’s IBIT accumulating nearly $19 billion in net inflows since its launch, as reported by SoSoValue.

The market has witnessed record net inflows exceeding $17 billion, indicating increased institutional interest and confidence in Bitcoin as an asset class.

Ethereum ETF anticipation builds

Market anticipation is building for the launch of the first batch of spot Ethereum (ETH) ETFs in the U.S., expected on Tuesday, July 23, according to Chicago Board Options Exchange issue notifications. The exchange has announced several funds, including offerings from Fidelity, Franklin, Invesco Galaxy, VanEck, and 21Shares.

Political factors may also be influencing Bitcoin’s price movement. U.S. President Joe Biden’s announcement that he will not seek re-election in November could potentially boost the chances of pro-crypto Republican candidate Donald Trump. While Biden has endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic Party’s nominee, her stance on the crypto industry remains unclear.

Lucas also pointed to the recent completion of the German government’s sale of 50,000 BTC, which generated approximately $2.87 billion, as a factor reducing selling pressure in the market. He said:

The completion of this sale, generating around $2.87 billion, has removed a significant chunk of bitcoin from the market, reducing selling pressure.

However, Lucas cautioned that pending repayments from the defunct Mt. Gox cryptocurrency exchange could still impact market dynamics in the short term, especially considering the recent $2.7 billion transaction. Creditor repayments totaling $9 billion are expected to be processed by early August, potentially introducing some volatility.

Bandai Namco has used the excitement of Evo 2024 to great effect, announcing a new story DLC for Tekken 8, which will be free for all players and feature a beloved character everyone thought was dead.

This is the first time a Tekken game has received a story-based DLC, with most post-release updates focusing on adding new characters and content to the fighting game series.

However, the upcoming DLC will add an entirely new chapter to The Dark Awakes, Tekken 8’s main story, continuing the clash between the Kazama and Mishima families.

A coordinated group of Tekken Monks have been targeting the Mishima Zaibatsu and players must uncover their motives and mission.

As players progress, they will uncover the truth – Heihachi, thought dead after being punted into a volcano at the end of Tekken 7, might not be as deceased as everyone assumed. His stint inside an active volcano has left him fired up and searching for vengeance.

What else did Bandai Namco announce at Evo 2024?

Evo is a huge annual gathering of gamers looking to compete in tournaments in eight different fighting games and attracting over 10,000 competitors and 40,000 attendees.

After an epic battle, a new Tekken champ was announced, and to celebrate, Bandai Namco announced the details of the upcoming Tekken World Finals Tour.

The 2024 Tekken World Tour finals will be held in Tokyo, Japan. Group stages will begin on December 5, leading to the ultimate Tekken showdown to determine the champion on December 8.

Bandai Namco also announced a collaboration between Tekken 8 and Nike, with both in-game sneakers inspired by Jin Kazama and Kazuya Mishima, and a limited edition run of Nike Air Foamposite One ‘Kazuya Mishima’ available for real-life feet. However, they were available in very small quantities to people at Evo 2024 only – truly limited edition.

The Nike collaboration also includes a new stage, the Times Square-inspired Urban Square, which will feature Nike advertisements in the background.
