Children’s shoemaker Start-Rite confirms major security incident, full customer details leaked
A misconfiguration on permissions leaked sensitive data on millions of Start-Rite customers.
Start-Rite notifies customers of a major data breach which saw credit card data exposedThe details about the attackers are unknown at this timeUsers with purchases between October 14 and November 7 should scrutinize their bank statements
Children’s footwear brand Start-Rite has confirmed suffering a painful data breach in which it lost customer payment information.
The company confirmed the breach in a message to affected customers, The Register revealed, however, not all details about the breach are known at this time, so we don’t know who the attackers were, how many people were affected, or how the breach occurred.
What we do know is that the incident happened between October 14 and November 7, as Start-Rite told customers in its data breach notification email. The information stolen includes full names – as seen on credit and debit cards – postal addresses to which the cards are registered, card numbers, expiry dates, and the CVV numbers. In other words – whoever took this information has everything they need to make online card purchases, commit wire fraud, identity theft, and more.
NHS and friends
“On 11 November, Start-Rite Shoes became aware that it had suffered a security incident via a third-party application code on www.startriteshoes.com,” the company told The Register. “The breach potentially provided access to customer bank card information. The website is now secure and the malicious code and third-party app have been removed.”
The company’s social channels, and its website, say nothing about the incident just yet, but Start-Rite advised customers to disable the cards and ask their banks for a new one, noting, “we would advise you to contact your bank or credit card provider and ask them to stop the card you used to pay us and issue you with a replacement. You may be able to do this immediately via your mobile banking or credit card app.”
The company also advised users to double-check all transactions from October 14 onward. “If you do see anything which appears strange, you should contact your bank or credit card provider, tell them that you did not authorize the transaction, and ask for a refund. You may wish to provide them with a copy of this email to support your request.”
Given the wording of the statement, this seems to have been a credit card skimmer code installed on the company’s ecommerce site, such as the one MageCart crooks used to drop.

Xbox boss Phil Spencer says ‘we’ll definitely do more consoles’ as well as ‘other devices’ in the future but seems against a mid-generation leap like the PS5 Pro
Microsoft gaming boss Phil Spencer has confirmed there will “definitely” be more Xbox consoles in the future.
Microsoft gaming CEO confirms the company wants to make more Xbox consolesPhil Spencer also hinted at “other devices”Spencer shuts down the possibility of a mid-generation Xbox console
Microsoft gaming boss Phil Spencer has confirmed there will “definitely” be more Xbox consoles in the future but has seemingly shut down the idea of a mid-generation Xbox Series X.
That’s according to a recent interview with Rolling Stone, following the launch of Microsoft’s new Xbox advertisement campaign titled ‘This is an Xbox’, where Spencer discussed the company’s ongoing multi-platform push.
“Our biggest growth in Xbox players is on PC and cloud,” Spencer said. “The console space all up isn’t growing, across all of them. We love those customers, but in terms of continuing to expand and grow Xbox, it’s about PC, it’s about cloud, and it’s about making our games more available in more places.”
However, this doesn’t mean Microsoft is ready to leave Xbox consoles behind in favor of PC gaming and the Cloud.
“We’ll definitely do more consoles in the future, and other devices,” Spencer confirmed.
The “other devices” seem to hint at a handheld console, which has been rumored to be in development for quite some time.
Later, when asked about the possibility of a mid-generation upgrade for the current Xbox consoles similar to the PS5 Pro, Spencer suggested it wasn’t worth it as there doesn’t seem to be a major difference in performance.
“We think about hardware that can create unique value for our players or creators on our platform,” he told Rolling Stone. “We don’t need to do incremental hardware for our own benefit.
“Does a new device really give you a unique experience on screen in some way? [It’s] less like the old days, going from the original Xbox to 360 – that was standard definition to high definition. Now [it’s] harder to show the benefits.”
Earlier this week, Spencer shared some insight on what Xbox is planning behind the scenes and was able to verify that Microsoft is currently working on handheld prototypes.
The Xbox boss has asked his team to look at the current market to develop its vision of a handheld based on what it learns and also set player expectations by saying an actual device is a few years away.

Samsung Galaxy S25 price rumors: how much is the S25 line likely to cost?
We can take a good guess at how much each Samsung Galaxy S25 model is likely to cost.
The Samsung Galaxy S25 series could land very soon, with leaks pointing to a January launch – so hopefully you’ve been saving, as these are sure to be expensive phones.
Exactly how expensive remains to be seen, but based on a mix of leaks and past form, we’ve predicted the approximate prices we think you’ll have to pay.
Below then, you’ll find price predictions for the Samsung Galaxy S25 itself, along with the Samsung Galaxy S25 Plus, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra, and even the Samsung Galaxy S25 Slim.
Samsung Galaxy S25 price predictions
(Image credit: Future | Roland Moore-Colyer)
To figure out how much the Samsung Galaxy S25 might cost, it’s helpful to first look at the price of the Samsung Galaxy S24.
You can see prices for all configurations of that phone in the chart below, but it starts at $799 / £799 / AU$1,399.
So we’d expect the Samsung Galaxy S25 will cost at least that much, but there’s a high chance it will cost more, as most rumors suggest it will have a Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, and that itself reportedly costs more than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 used by some Galaxy S24 models.
Qualcomm (which makes the chipset) claimed ahead of its launch that the price would probably be higher, and leakers have variously said that the Snapdragon 8 Elite might cost roughly $40 (around £30 / AU$60) more than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, or that it would cost around 20% more than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.
It’s likely that Samsung will pass any price rises on to consumers, so we could perhaps see the Samsung Galaxy S25 retail for more like $840 / £840 / AU$1,460 (with the UK price mirroring the US one, as that was the case with the Galaxy S24). With inflation it’s possible that the price could be even higher.
For now, we can’t confidently predict exactly what the Samsung Galaxy S25 will cost, so take the estimate above with a pinch of salt, but we expect it will cost at least slightly more than its predecessor.
Samsung Galaxy S25 Plus price predictions
As with the Samsung Galaxy S25, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Plus will probably cost at least as much as its predecessor, and there’s a high chance it will cost more.
For reference then, the Samsung Galaxy S24 Plus starts at $999.99 / £999 / AU$1,699, and you can see its full pricing for every configuration in the table below.
So the Samsung Galaxy S25 Plus might mirror this, and we’d be surprised if it cost less anyway. But with the price of its chipset likely being higher than last year’s (as detailed in the Galaxy S25 price section above), if anything we’d think it might cost a little more.
One leak states that the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset it’s using will cost Samsung roughly $40 (around £30 / AU$60) more, so that sort of amount could be added to the price of the Samsung Galaxy S25 Plus.
In which case, we might be looking at something like $1,040 / £1,040 / AU$1,760. However, that’s just a rough guess. For now though, expect it to probably cost slightly more than the Galaxy S24 Plus anyway.
Having said that, a price increase would push the price into four digits in the US and UK, which might be something Samsung would want to avoid, so it’s not impossible that the price will remain the same as last year.
Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra price predictions
(Image credit: Future | Alex Walker-Todd)
The same factors as above are likely to affect the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra’s pricing, meaning that it will probably cost more than the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra.
The current Ultra starts at $1,299.99 / £1,249 / AU$2,199, and you can see complete pricing for that phone in the chart below.
That’s a lot of money then, but with the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra’s chipset possibly costing around $40 (roughly £30 / AU$60) more than its predecessor’s – as detailed above – the price of the phone might increase accordingly.
In that case, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra could start at around $1,340 / £1,280 / AU$2,260. As with the other S25 models we’re not confident of that exact price, but we do think it’s likely the phone will cost more than its predecessor.
Samsung Galaxy S25 Slim price predictions
(Image credit: Future | Roland Moore-Colyer)
One leak suggests the Samsung Galaxy S25 Slim could launch at the same time as the rest of the Samsung Galaxy S25 line, so with that possibly coming soon it’s worth considering how much this could cost too.
However, it’s a lot harder to predict than with the rest of the Galaxy S25 series, since there aren’t any previous ‘Slim’ models to compare it to.
But based on leaked model numbers for the Galaxy S25 line, it’s likely that the Samsung Galaxy S25 Slim would be positioned between the Samsung Galaxy S25 Plus and the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra.
In which case, it will probably cost more than the $999.99 / £999 / AU$1,699 starting price of the Samsung Galaxy S24 Plus, but less than the $1,299.99 / £1,249 / AU$2,199 starting price of the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra.

TikTok makes its AI ad creation tool available to all advertisers
Users can now create AI-generated ads in 30+ languages in minutes with TikTok’s Symphony Creative Studio.
TikTok Symphony Creative Studio is now available for all TikTok for Business usersAdvertisers can create AI-generated videos with little input in minutes30+ languages supported and your choice of pre-built or custom avatars
TikTok has announced it is making its Symphony Creative Studio available to all advertisers in a welcome move set to save stress and time when creating new content.
Symphony Creative Studio comprises an AI-powered video-generation tool that can create videos with minimal user input in a few minutes.
The tool works by inputting relevant information into the input field, such as a product’s information sheet and other assets, which then fuels the AI tool’s output. Users can also paste the product’s URL directly into the tool for easier content generation.
TikTok Symphony Creative Studio available to all
Some of the use cases highlighted include being able to localize content for different markets with support for different languages, and the ability to create a digital avatar that can follow a script. The pre-built avatars, based on licensed actors, support 30+ languages, however advertisers can also build their own custom avatars.
Symphony Creative Studio generates a series of videos, layouts and scripts, based on existing high-performing content on the app. TikTok has also worked with partners like Billo and Getty Images to use assets that have been cleared for commercial use, giving advertisers one less thing to worry about.
After selecting their preferred video, advertisers can then edit and customize further before exporting and downloading.
Recognizing that artificial intelligence can pose some risks, particularly to privacy and security, TikTok assures us that “custom avatars are created solely from approved footage with explicit consent,” and that AI-generated content is marked accordingly for full transparency.
Looking ahead, the platform is also planning to add script generation and a tool to adjust variables in existing videos to drive more engagement.
Symphony Creative Studio is now available for all TikTok for Business users.

iPad Pro continues to thrash the iPad Air as Apple’s most popular tablet
Some new iPad sales figures show that the iPad Pro continues to be by far the most popular Apple tablet.
New sales figures show the iPad Pro is by far Apple’s most popular tabletThe iPad Air comes in a distant third behind the affordable base iPadFigures don’t yet reflect the popularity of the new iPad Mini 7
Thinking about treating yourself (or a loved one) to a new iPad this Christmas or in the Black Friday tablet deals? Some new sales figures have revealed which models other iPad buyers are going for this year – and the distant winner is the iPad Pro.
The figures from analysts CIRP (Consumer Intelligence Research Partners) give us our first glimpse of the relative popularity of the new iPad Pro M4 and iPad Air (2024), which both landed in May. They show the sales during the quarter that ended in September.
The slightly surprising conclusion is that while the iPad Pro has retained its market share from last year (at 45% of all iPad sales), the iPad Air has dropped to only 13% (compared to 24% during the same quarter last year).
The main beneficiary has been the base iPad 10 (2022), which is now 33% of all iPad sales. The iPad mini has remained fairly static at 9% of iPad sales, though that should increase during the next quarter when iPad Mini 7 figures are included.
It seems that the iPad Air is in something of a no-man’s land, with the base iPad getting a $100 / £100 price cut this year and clearly proving to be the value option. Strangely, the Air is also no longer Apple’s lightest iPad, with the iPad Pro models coming in 20g lighter.
Do iPad buyers care about Apple Intelligence?
What these figures don’t yet tell us is what impact (if any) Apple Intelligence features will have on iPad buying decisions.
Apple’s take on AI-powered tools, which Apple unveiled in September, will bring new features to Mail, Messages, Photos, Siri, and more. The base iPad is now the only model that doesn’t support Apple Intelligence features, which require an M1 chip or later (and also work on the new iPad mini’s A17 Pro chip).
If the features are a big factor in iPad purchasing decisions, we should see a reasonably big shift from the base iPad to the iPad mini, iPad Air, and iPad Pro. But then again, the base iPad continues to offer great value – and we still consider it the best iPad for most people.
In fact, the third model in our list is the even older iPad 10.2 (2021), which continues to be available from third-party sellers and could offer good value in the Black Friday iPad deals.
Right now, the iPad mini 7 is the cheapest way to get Apple Intelligence, so if you do want that software future-proofing and don’t mind an 8.3-inch screen, it could now be a tempting alternative to the base iPad – which now looks unlikely to get an update until 2025.

Gaming peripheral manufacturer CRKD has revealed a new special variant of its popular Neo S controller, the cool Frost Edition.
The CRKD Neo S Frost Edition comes in a clean translucent white colorway, with a slight gradient that leaves it looking a bit like an ice cube. It’s an absolutely fantastic looking gamepad and even comes bundled with a matching white charging dock for display.
If you want to pick one up you will have to head over to your local Apple Store, or the Apple website, as this particular model is exclusive to the retailer. It costs $59.99 / £69.99 and is only available in limited quantities too, so you might need to act fast if you want to make sure that you secure one.
In addition to Nintendo Switch, the Neo S is fully compatible with iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple TV – making it a formidable choice if you’re an Apple gamer. Key features include its Hall effect thumbsticks, integrated motion controls, and adjustable trigger sensitivity.
As with other CRKD products, the Neo S Frost Edition is compatible with the brand’s True Collection System app. This allows you to register your product and obtain a special rarity ranking – a neat little bonus for the most dedicated collectors.
Our Neo S review praised the controller’s compact size which would really make it ideal for mobile gaming in this case. We were also impressed with its overall excellent battery life, plus the easy-to-use nature of the controller right out of the box.

3 new action-packed Netflix trailers have landed, and I for one can’t wait to see Cameron Diaz back on my screen
Netflix has dropped three action-packed trailers for brand new titles, including Cameron Diaz’s first movie in 11-years.
Just when I think I’m about to run out of movies and shows to watch on Netflix, it always comes back and hits me with a trailer for a brand new original title. But this time I have not one, not two, but three new action-packed new releases (see below) to look forward to, so Netflix’s reputation as one of the best streaming services remains intact.
The three exciting new Netflix trailers are for espionage action movie Back in Action, comedy thriller series No Good Deed and chilling psychological crime series The Madness, which is my prediction for one of our next best Netflix movies entries. Each title will be available to stream over the course of the next three months, but what thrills me the most about these new titles is the slew of actors coming to the screen.
After an 11-year break from acting Princess Fiona herself, Cameron Diaz (Shrek, Charlie’s Angels), joins forces with on-screen husband and Annie (2014) co-star Jamie Foxx (Django Unchained, Ray) in an action spectacle with a spy family twist.
If you were a fan of Dead To Me (one of the best Netflix series), its creator Liz Feldman is bringing you another comedy-thriller series No Good Deed starring leading actress of Dead to Me, Linda Cardellini. Joined by Lisa Kudrow, Luke Wilson and Matt Rogers, the new series appears to pack a perfect balance of comedy and suspense.
That’s not to forget Colman Domingo leading Stephen Belber’s conspiracy thriller series The Madness, where the trailer’s dark and looming aura points to a whodunnit story.
Over the next three months, each title will be landing on Netflix and we’ll be undoubtedly sharing our thoughts and feelings as they roll out. But what are these new titles about you may ask? Here’s what you can expect from the upcoming shows, and their respective trailers.
Back in Action
Coming to Netflix: January 17
Cameron Diaz breaks out of her 11-year acting retirement returning to the screen in Seth Gordon’s espionage action movie. Married couple Emily (Diaz) and Matt (Jamie Foxx) have been out of their CIA roles for many years to focus on raising a family, but are pulled back into the field for another mission when their secret identities are revealed.
Diaz’s return to the screen isn’t the only thing that excites me about this new Netflix movie, but the star-studded line-up of names alone reveal how much budget has been invested in its production. According to Variety, as well as Diaz and Foxx, Kyle Chandler, Glenn Close, Andrew Scott, Jamie Demetriou, McKenna Roberts, and Rylan Jackson will also be bringing the fun.
No Good Deed
Coming to Netflix: December 12
From the creator of Dead to Me, Netflix’s new comedy-thriller stars icon of Friends Lisa Kudrow, so that was enough to entice me. With her on-screen partner Ray Romano, the two play a couple struggling to sell their house and conceal a dark secret that lurks beneath the estate’s plot.
Additionally to Kudrow and Romano, it stars Linda Cardellini, O-T Fagbenle, Abbi Jacobson, Denis Leary, Poppy Liu, Teyonah Parris, and Luke Wilson as a gang of prospective buyers who are fighting to get their hands on the property.
The Madness
Coming to Netflix: November 28
Oscar Nominee Colman Domingo steps into a spine-chilling role as Muncie Daniels, a high-profile media figure who’s being framed for the murder of a notorious white supremacist. As a Black man with a well-respected job in the media, he must stop at nothing to clear his name and prove his innocence from a threatening targeted attack.
The show will run over eight episodes with creator Stephen Belger and VJ Boyd as co-show runners. Marsha Stephanie Blake, Gabrielle Graham, Tamsin Topolski, and Thaddeus J. Mixson also star.

Under Paris 2 is in development at Netflix, but do we really need another subterranean killer-shark flick?
Netflix is developing a sequel to Under Paris but do we really need one?
Netflix is developing a sequel to French shark movie Under ParisIt’s currently the second most-watched non-English movie on NetflixPlot could include “a Paris that is entirely submerged under water”
Netflix is developing a sequel to its hit shark movie Under Paris, but I’m not sure I’m ready to sink my teeth into a second installment just yet.
Hailed as ‘Jaws set in France’, the French creature feature became a surprising success when it dropped on the best streaming service in the run-up to the Paris 2024 Olympics in June. At the time of writing, Under Paris remains the second most-watched non-English film on Netflix, behind the Norwegian movie Troll.
Now, despite its post-apocalyptic ending, filmmaker Xavier Gens is diving back in for another deadly shark adventure with a sequel to Under Paris. The satirical plot focuses on a mutant killer shark lurking in France’s river Seine just as the World Triathlon Championships kick off in the city.
According to Variety, the key cast from the original film (the ones who weren’t chomped to pieces I mean) will return to go head-to-head with the mammoth man-eater, including Bérénice Bejo as grieving scientist Sophia and Nassim Lyes as police officer Adil.
What can we expect in Under Paris 2?
While there’s no plot details for Under Paris 2 just yet, the outrageous ending of the first installment along with director Gens’ hints paves the way for what could happen in the second film.
In an interview with Variety, Gens revealed that if a sequel was made “it will take place in a Paris that is entirely submerged under water” as well as dig deeper into the genre. But when will be seeing some more shark action? Well, sources close to the production have confirmed to Variety that Under Paris 2 is still in the early stages of development and shooting could start in 2026.
The Under Paris ending does set up a larger, global story for the next movie and could potentially move beyond Paris. However, I’m not sure we really need another ‘sharksploitation’ film franchise amongst the likes of Sharknado, Jaws, and Deep Blue Sea.
Under Paris’ stellar Netflix reputation suggests that the sequel will also be a success. But as it failed to become one of the best Netflix movies with its rather middling score of 63% on Rotten Tomatoes and 30% audience score, the sequel may not make as much of a splash as the first.
