Perplexity’s new Buy with Pro is the perfect AI-powered shopping assistant for Black Friday

Perplexity now has a ‘Buy with Pro’ feature that lets you shop using AI.

Perplexity has launched a new AI-powered shopping featureBuy with Pro will help you make purchase decisionsYou can then buy with one click directly within Perplexity

Popular AI search tool, Perplexity, has been updated just in time for Black Friday with a new ‘Buy with Pro’ shopping feature.

The AI-powered shopping tool is available for users in the US right now, but will be expanding to other countries soon. When searching for a product, Pro members can click the Buy with Pro button to launch the AI-powered shopping experience that remembers their method of payment and delivery address. In order to entice users to use Buy with Pro over the Holiday Season, Perplexity is offering all users free shipping, too.

Think of Buy With Pro as an AI-powered shopping experience that uses Perplexity’s amazing AI search functionality to not only help you make informed decisions, but also shop without the need of the company’s competitors, like Google.

Over the last year, users have flocked to AI search engines such as Perplexity and ChatGPT Search. This new addition, allowing you to shop directly from within Perplexity is the next step in the company creating a true Google Search competitor.

Ask AI for shopping advice

Perplexity is also launching a Snap-to-Shop experience that is similar to Google Lens. So, you can take a photo of an object and search for it, then ultimately buy it, all from within Perplexity.

Perplexity’s Buy with Pro will help you with purchase decisions by allowing you to ask detailed questions about products and get detailed answers, thanks to Perplexity’s LLM.

Buy with Pro includes new easy-to-read product cards for each product it recommends summarizing the most relevant items, key details, and a link to visit the website or buy. Perplexity maintains that its product recommendations aren’t sponsored, are completely unbiased, and are tailored to your search by its AI. Product cards will be visible to people searching using Perplexity regardless of whether they are a Pro user, or not.

The company says it will be expanding Buy with Pro to other countries in the future, but for now, only those in the US will be able to make the most of Perplexity this Black Friday.

Ford says it is investigating claims thousands of workers have had data leaked online

EnergyWeaponUser and IntelBroker strike again, but Ford is yet to confirm the incident.

A known hacker posts a new thread on an underground forum, offering Ford data for freeFord responds by saying it is investigating the claimsThere is no confirmation of data’s authenticity yet

Ford says it is looking into a potential data breach after internal company information ended up on the dark web.

A known leaker with the alias EnergyWeaponUser recently posted a new thread on BreachForums, offering Ford’s data for free. “Today, I have uploaded the Ford Motor Company internal database for you to download, thanks for reading and enjoy!,” the post reads. EnergyWeaponUser added that the company was breached together with IntelBroker, another infamous leakster.

“In November 2024, Ford Motor Company, an American multinational automobile company suffered a data breach,” the post further adds. “It exposes 44k records of customer names, physical locations, bought product.”

“Actively investigating”

The crooks also shared a small sample of the stolen data, which appears to include customer names, postal addresses, country codes, customer type codes, city information, sales types, account codes, last update timestamps, and other records.

After the thread surfaced, The Register reached out to the company, which confirmed looking into the allegations of data theft.

“Ford is aware and is actively investigating the allegations that there has been a breach of Ford data,” spokesperson Richard Binhammer told the publication. “Our investigation is active and ongoing.”

EnergyWeaponUser and IntelBroker are quite active in the underground hacking community, often posting archives from breached corporations. As such, they have seen leaking Cisco information, and sensitive data from AMD, in the past. IntelBroker was also seen leaking Europol, Nokia, and others.

Whether or not Ford’s data is authentic, remains to be seen. Losing sensitive customer data can result in all kinds of headaches for the company, from regulatory fines, to class action lawsuits. Most of the time, however, the biggest expense is paying for identity theft protection and credit monitoring services, which most companies provide to affected individuals, for up to two years.

Sony is reportedly in talks to acquire Kadokawa, the owner of Elden Ring, Dark Souls, and Bloodborne developer FromSoftware

Sony is reportedly in talks to acquire Kadokawa, the owner of FromSoftware.

Sony is reportedly in talks to acquire Kadokawa, the owner of FromSoftwareSources claim talks are still ongoing but a deal could be signed in weeksSony currently has a 2% stake in Kadokawa

Sony is reportedly looking to acquire the Japanese publishing company Kadokawa, the owner of Elden Ring developer FromSoftware.

According to a recent Reuters report, two sources familiar with the matter claimed that talks between the PlayStation owner and Kadokawa are ongoing.

The sources said that if the talks are successful, a deal could be signed “in the coming weeks”.

Sony currently has a 2% stake in Kadokawa and a 14% stake in FromSoftware itself. It also has ownership of the Demon’s Souls and Bloodborne franchises, while FromSoftware owns the rights to Elden Ring and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.

Kadokawa is also the owner of developer Acquire, the studio behind the recently released Mario & Luigi: Brothership on Nintendo Switch and Octopath Traveler.

The publisher acquired the studio in February this year, at the time saying that it has “multiple game titles in the development pipeline, both for consoles and mobile platforms” and is looking to “further strengthen the ability to create IP in games”.

Elsewhere, The Game Awards has announced the nominees for The Game Awards 2024, which is set to take place next month.

For the first time in 10 years, downloadable content (DLC) and expansions are eligible for major awards, including Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, which has been nominated in several categories including Game of the Year.

Phishing emails using SVG attachments to help get away with attacks

Weaponized SVG attachments are not being recognized as malicious, resulting in victims being served phishing scams and malware.

Security researchers spotted phishing emails with SVG attachmentsThe nature of SVG files allows them to bypass email protectionsCommon sense remains the best way to defend against phishing

Hackers are always looking for new ways to sneak phishing emails into people’s inboxes, and it seems SVG attachments are the next big thing.

Security researchers recently posted about SVG attachments on Twitter, claiming their nature allows them to bypass email protections and land malicious content in victim’s inbox.

For the uninitiated, SVG is short for Scalable Vector Graphics – it’s a lossless image format used all across the web, especially for content that is designed to be viewed on screens of different sizes. Images are not created with pixels, but rather with XML-based code which defines graphics. Since images are built with code, they cannot be analyzed by antivirus programs in the traditional sense of the word. As a result, many bypass current protections.

Fake Excel

According to MalwareHunterTeam, some cybercriminals found a way to abuse this fact. One of the examples was creating a fake Excel spreadsheet with SVG which allows people to submit different content (mostly login credentials and other valuable information).

Even if email security solutions providers find a way to defend against SVG-borne email attacks, crooks will only find another attack avenue.

Therefore, relying exclusively on software to protect your inbox against these threats is super risky. Instead, experts suggest humans be put in the proverbial trenches – using common sense, spotting phishing emails, and acting accordingly (reporting and deleting the email immediately) remains the best form of defense.

Another way crooks can bypass email protection in phishing attacks is through the use of QR codes.

Since these come in .JPG or similar image formats, they rarely get scanned for malice. Furthermore, QR codes in emails usually force victims to bring up their mobile devices, which are rarely as secure as desktop devices, increasing the chances of infection or data loss.

Fresh Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE rumors predict display boost for affordable foldable

Samsung leak suggests it’ll finally launch a cheap Galaxy Z Flip FE in 2025.

Credible rumors have again predicted the launch of a Galaxy Z Flip 7 FEFoldable tipped to land in 2025 with the same display as the Galaxy Z Flip 7Price drop could be achieved with downgraded camera and processor

The best Foldable phones bring some of the most interesting smartphone innovations we’ve seen in years but their high price makes them fairly inaccessible. Fortunately, there are signs that could change in 2025 with new rumors again predicting the release of a Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 Fan Edition.

A Galaxy Z Flip FE has been expected for some time, and now Ross Young – a supply chain specialist with a strong track record for leaks – said that “it looks like a Samsung FE clamshell is finally coming in 2025.”

The Galaxy Z Flip 6 folds like a clamshell and can morph between a pocket-sized square and a full S24 Plus in terms of screen size – though its cameras aren’t quite as impressive despite it costing a little more than the Plus at $1,099.99 / £1,049 / AU$1,799 (256GB storage / 12GB RAM). Samsung’s Fan Edition or FE phones are usually cheaper versions of its existing flagship boasting a few premium features mixed with some downgrades at a lower price.

As expected, Young later teased that while some elements – such as the display – are likely to match the Z Flip 7 (which is expected to land next year) “the camera and processor could be different.” We’re reading “different” here as worse, but an uncompromised screen would be a good start.

The cheap foldable we’ve been wanting?

Will the Flip FE live up to Samsung’s other Fan Editions (Image credit: Philip Berne / Future)

As with all leaks we should take these comments with a pinch of salt, but we’re cautiously optimistic that the Galaxy Z Flip FE could help get foldables into more people’s hands in 2025 if it arrives.

A big question will be that price vs performance debate. FE phones have to come with downgrades at their reduced price, but the full-powered Galaxy Z Flip phones already come with a few downgrades at a higher price – with the added cost being justified by their unique display design. The Flip FE model – if Samsung isn’t careful – could then end up with compromised features at a price that still feels high.

Given Samsung’s AI focus we expect the Galaxy Z Flip FE would be Gemini-compatible even if it uses a worse chipset than the Flip 7, but we’re a little concerned to hear its cameras might face a downgrade as this was already a weak point of the 6.

We’ll have to wait and see what Samsung delivers in 2025, but while there’s plenty a Flip FE could get wrong, a cheaper foldable would be a step in the right direction. So if you’ve been waiting to get a foldable, next year could be your year.

Nvidia fans, it’s time to get excited – the RTX 5000 series could be set to steamroll the GPU market, according to one Taiwanese supplier

Nvidia’s RTX 5000 series GPUs are expected to provide some seriously stiff competition for AMD, and this Taiwanese cooling supplier has further leveled up the excitement.

Auras Technology expects Nvidia’s RTX 5000 series to dominate the GPU marketFocus among suppliers anticipated to shift towards next-gen GPUsA reveal or teaser could be weeks away

Considering the rumors and supposed leaks of RTX 5000 series GPUs, it’s no surprise that Nvidia’s next-gen GPUs are the current hot topic among PC gamers. Now, a Taiwanese cooling supplier has given us more reasons to get excited about Team Green’s upcoming launch.

Auras Technology manufactures cooling components for discrete GPUs as well as notebooks, motherboards, and servers, and its CEO Yu-Shen Lin has just claimed that Nvidia’s Blackwell GPUs could “seize the markets starting in December” (as revealed by DigiTimes). Lin expects the RTX 5000 series to launch with high levels of interest and demand, similar to what we saw previously with the RTX 4000 series launch.

The official reveal of Team Green’s next-gen GPUs could be closer than ever, with CEO Jensen Huang’s appearance at CES 2025 already confirmed – this will take place in January 2025 with Nvidia’s fierce rivals, AMD, also making an appearance. Team Red isn’t anticipated to compete within the high-end GPU market with a narrowed focus on mid-range, adding further credence to Lin’s expectation of Nvidia dominance.

This latest news corroborates earlier reports suggesting that Nvidia’s production of RTX 5000 series GPUs has stepped up – along with other suppliers, Auras Technology is anticipated to shift priorities toward the new GPU range.

Will this help with the inevitable high demand for the RTX 5000 series?

There is no doubt that the RTX 5000 series GPUs will be highly sought-after once it launches, especially if DLSS 3’s successor delivers major enhancements (though I personally will be upset if Nvidia’s ‘DLSS 4’ is exclusive to owners of a 5000-series card). It’s no secret that the next-gen GPUs will be driven by AI, and this could easily draw more attention from PC gamers looking for greater GPU performance.

Scalping has been an issue surrounding PC hardware, particularly for Nvidia fans – while suppliers’ current preparation for the new GPUs could help with the expected high demand, there’s only so much that can be done to prevent third-party sellers from taking advantage of the situation.

If the purported price of the RTX 5090 (a hefty $2,500, around £2000 / AU$3900) holds any truth, we could see the worst examples of scalping within the PC hardware market yet. Fingers crossed it isn’t too rough…

Assassin’s Creed Syndicate has received a 60fps patch for PS5, PS5 Pro, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S, but not a native version

The Assassin’s Creed Syndicate 60fps console patch drops today.

A new Assassin’s Creed Syndicate patch arrives todayIt enables 4K 60FPS functionality on PS5, PS5 Pro, and Xbox Series XXbox Series S players can now enjoy 1080p 60FPS

A new update for Assassin’s Creed Syndicate has enabled support for up to 60fps on Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, PlayStation 5, and PlayStation 5 Pro.

It is available to download today and comes in at 31.8GB on Xbox or just 0.75GB on PlayStation.

For those on Xbox Series X, PS5, or PS5 Pro it introduces the option to play at 4K resolution at 60fps or at 1080p resolution at 60fps. Xbox Series S players will be restricted to just 1080p at 60fps, though this is understandable given the lower power of the system relative to other modern consoles.

Just bear in mind that this is not the same as a native version of the game for any of these systems. As a result, the game will still show up as a PS4 title on PS5, even when you have the most up-to-date edition installed. Owners of the original physical release for Xbox One or PS4 will also be able to take advantage of this update by simply inserting the game into their Xbox Series X or PS5 and downloading the latest version.

If you’ve been waiting for a good reason to replay this installment in the Assassin’s Creed franchise, perhaps ahead of the Assassin’s Creed Shadows launch, then this is it.

If you’re not already familiar with the game, Assassin’s Creed Syndicate first launched back in 2015 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. It’s set in Victorian London, where players take control of assassin twins Jacob and Evie Frye as they battle against the sinister Templar forces controlling the city.

The game introduced many of the mechanics that were then further developed in Assassin’s Creed Origins, so should feel immediately familiar if you’ve only played the more recent games. It was always a fantastic-looking title, so I’m personally quite excited to discover just how much better it looks after this bump up to 4K 60fps.

Nvidia unveils the next generation of digital twins with real-time data updates

Nvidia Omniverse Blueprint promises to boost digital twinning efficiency, maximizing time and energy.

Nvidia launches Omniverse Blueprint digital twin softwareHandles processes that usually take weeks or monthsAvailable on DGX Cloud, AWS, Google, Microsoft and more

Nvidia has lifted the wraps off its new Omniverse Blueprint tool – a digital twin software to support computer-aided engineering in industries like manufacturing, aerospace, automotive and energy.

The chipmaker hopes its blueprint tool will enable developers to create simulations faster, therefore reducing their energy consumption and helping them to hit sustainability goals.

Omniverse Blueprint’s efficiency also promises to accelerate product development cycles, allowing companies to react to trends more quickly and stay ahead of the curve and competition.

Nvidia launches Omniverse Blueprint

In an announcement, the company said Blueprint uses Nvidia CUDA-X acceleration libraries, Nvidia Modulus physics-AI framework and Nvidia Omniverse application programming interfaces for 3D data interoperability and real-time RTX-enabled visualization to achieve 1,200x faster simulations and real-time visualization.

“Omniverse Blueprints are reference pipelines that connect NVIDIA Omniverse with AI technologies, enabling leading CAE software developers to build groundbreaking digital twin workflows that will transform industrial digitalization, from design and manufacturing to operations, for the world’s largest industries,” noted Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang.

One of Omniverse Blueprint’s first applications is computational fluid dynamics (CFD), an important step for refining vehicle, ship and airplane designs that previously tool weeks or even months to complete.

Altair, Beyond Math, Cadence, Hexagon, Neural Concept, Siemens, SimScale and Trane Technologies are also said to be exploring how they can adopt the technology, too.

The company noted Omniverse Blueprint is available on Nvidia DGX Cloud as well as leading alternatives like Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure. Prospective customers can sign up for early access now.

Garmin Forerunner smartwatches are getting a big upgrade with new Strength Coach rollout

Garmin has started pushing out strength training features to more models, though only in beta form for now.

Strength Coach is now heading to more usersThe extra workouts are available for beta usersForerunner and Venu watches are included

Up until this point it’s only been the very best Garmin watches – the Fenix 8, the Enduro 3, and the Fenix E – that have had access to the Strength Coach feature. But it’s now being rolled out in beta form to other models, including several Forerunner watches.

As spotted by the5krunner, Strength Coach is now available in beta for the Forerunner 965, Forerunner 955, Forerunner 265, Forerunner 255, Vivoactive 5, Venu 3, and Venu 3s. Once testing is complete, it should appear for everyone with one of those watches.

Like the Running Coach and Cycling Coach programs that are already widely available, the Strength Coach offers detailed guides for building up strength and muscle – with different plans available to suit your own goals and current progress.

Only a few days ago we heard Garmin was planning to add a Get Fit plan to the Strength Coach, a set of workouts aimed at beginners. It would make sense that Garmin would want this to be available more widely across its product range.

Coming to a wrist near you

The Strength Coach made its debut on the Fenix 8 (Image credit: Future / Matt Evans)

If you’re keen to get Strength Coach and other new features before anyone else, you can sign up for the Garmin beta software program through your Garmin account – though you may have to put up with a few bugs and issues with these early software rollouts.

If you’d rather stick to the stable releases, just hang tight: the Strength Coach update will find you eventually. You shouldn’t have long to wait, though it depends on whether any major problems are spotted during the beta phase.

For now, there’s no word on whether any other watches – such as the Fenix 7 or the budget Forerunner 165 – are going to get the Strength Coach feature too, though presumably Garmin will eventually want this on as many wrists as possible.

We tested the strength training workouts as part of our full Garmin Fenix 8 review and came away impressed with what was on offer, awarding the watch a full five stars out of five – despite the hefty price tag attached.
