I don’t watch a lot of anime, but even I’m shocked that Scott Pilgrim Takes Off has been canceled by Netflix
One of the best anime series Scott Pilgrim Takes Off has been canceled by Netflix after one season.

Although I’m not an avid anime watcher, I’m surprised to hear the news that Netflix has canceled the hit animated adaptation Scott Pilgrim Takes Off after one season.
Back in 2022, Netflix announced plans to turn Bryan Lee O’Malley’s Scott Pilgrim graphic novels into an anime series and was reuniting the live-action movie’s cast for the animated spin-off. The news was met with mixed responses from Scott Pilgrim fans, particularly TechRadar’s senior entertainment reporter Tom Power who was initially in two minds about the show.
However, Scott Pilgrim Takes Off was met with critical acclaim when it was released on the best streaming service and earned a 96% Rotten Tomatoes score from the critics. Despite this, Netflix has officially canceled one of the best anime shows, with series creator Bryan Lee O’Malley confirming the news on social media.
In a post on O’Malley’s X account (see below), the renowned comic book connoisseur thanked the cast and crew for their work on the series and added that the Scott Pilgrim anime was only intended for one season, so the non-renewal isn’t a surprise.
Anyway, we were recently informed that the show will NOT return. As you know, we only intended one season, and called in a lot of favors to make it happen, so making more would have been nearly impossible. Still, I know some of you have been holding out hope. 😩🫶🏼November 20, 2024
Scott Pilgrim Takes Off lands in Netflix’s cancelation pile
Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, which sees Scott Pilgrim’s (Michael Cera) love interest Ramona Flowers (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) investigate his mysterious disappearance, isn’t the only animation to be canceled this month after fans were heartbroken to hear that Scavengers Reign had reportedly been axed by Netflix.
Netflix’s cancelation haul is sadly getting bigger every month, with the workplace comedy Unstable, sitcom That ’90s Show and dark comedy Greek mythology-inspired series Kaos all being scrapped in October alone. I’ve actually lost track on how many shows Netflix has canceled this year, but I was particularly disappointed when I found out that it had quietly canceled the most realistic zombie show I’ve ever seen Black Summer.
Although subscribers will understandably be bummed that Scott Pilgrim Takes Off isn’t coming back for a second season, Netflix is still home to an impressive array of animated shows like the wildly popular Arcane and Nickelodeon classic tale Avatar: The Last Airbender.
Scott Pilgrim Takes Off is one of the seven shows canceled by Netflix in 2024 so far that you should still watch, so don’t let this cancelation stop you from watching this best Netflix show.

ChatGPT-4o just got a ‘creative writing’ boost for telling more engaging stories
ChatGPT-4o has had a ‘creative writing’ update that boosts its natural language abilities.
ChatGPT-4o gets ‘creative writing’ updateIt can also deal better with uploaded filesThe update is only for ChatGPT Plus subscribers
OpenAI has given ChatGPT-4o, the large language model (LLM) that’s available to ChatGPT Plus subscribers, a stealthy ‘creative writing’ upgrade.
In a brief tweet on X, OpenAI described the upgrade by saying: “The model’s creative writing ability has leveled up – more natural, engaging, and tailored writing to improve relevance & readability.”
OpenAI also claims that the new ChatGPT-4o works better with uploaded files, providing deeper insights and more thorough responses. ChatGPT has had the ability to upload files and analyze them for a while now, and it works particularly well for uploading data in spreadsheet form, or images, to use in your prompts.
ChatGPT-4o can now rival Eminem
ChatGPT has always been good at creative writing. Sprinkle in a few interesting characters and ask it to tell you a story and it can do a splendid job of spinning a yarn, which is especially useful for parents when it comes to coming up with a story for bedtime. But the new update means it’s got even better.
It’s hard to quantify an update that claims to improve the quality of writing, but so far user reaction has been positive. On X, @kyleshannon tweeted “ Hey @OpenAI your @ChatGPTapp 4o “Creative Writing” upgrade today is INSANE!”
Another user, Kyle, claims that the new ChatGPT-4o rivals Eminem when it comes to creating rap lyrics:
“My test prompt for two years has been some version of ‘write an Eminem style cipher about quantum mechanics.’ ChatGPT has always been the best at this, but no LLM has ever captured the sophisticated internal rhyming structures like he does. Until now”.
If you want to read ChatGPT-4o’s Eminem-style rap about quantum mechanics, you can in this tweet:

There’s nothing you need to do or install to make use of the ‘creative writing’ update in ChatGPT-4o, it all happens behind the scenes, so just head over to Chat.com and ask it to write something.
Note: The update doesn’t apply to people who are on the free tier of ChatGPT, which is restricted to the ChatGPT-4 LLM, its legacy model.

Nvidia almost doubles revenues as data center profits skyrocket
Data center revenue accounts for much of Nvidia’s entire revenue, there’s no signs of slowdown.
Nvidia’s Q3 2025 revenue jumps 94% year-over-year to hit $35.1 billionCompany now has a market cap of more than $3.5 trillionNext-gen processors and more AI applications are on the way
Nvidia has announced its latest financial results, showing company revenue is up a staggering 94% year-over-year as it continues on its journey to become the world’s first $4 trillion company.
Revenue for Q3 2025 stood at $35.1 billion, marking a 17% growth over the previous quarter’s $30.0 billion and $18.12 billion in the same period last year.
Nvidia’s market cap, currently at $3.578 trillion, puts it a slice ahead of Apple and around half a trillion ahead of Microsoft.
Nvidia’s revenue continues to skyrocket
Much of Nvidia’s success has been put down to its successful early entry to the AI market – its processors have now become synonymous with AI data center use.
Of its entire revenue, its data center business accounted for $30.8 billion of Nvidia’s figures, compared with just $3.3 billion from its gaming business, an area that it was previously best known for.
“The age of AI is in full steam, propelling a global shift to Nvidia computing,” noted Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang.
Huang indicated that demand for Nvidia’s products would continue: “Demand for Hopper and anticipation for Blackwell – in full production – are incredible as foundation model makers scale pretraining, post-training and inference.”
Samples of its Blackwell chips have already been shipped to major customers like Microsoft, OpenAI and Oracle.
Next quarter, its final quarter of the financial year, Nvidia anticipates generating a revenue of $37.5 billion at the mid point. This would mark a more modest 7% increase, which would be a significant decrease from the previous quarters’ growth of 122%, 262% and 265%.
Looking ahead, Nvidia predicts that new applications for AI would continue to attract investment, fueling its growth, with Huang adding: “Industrial robotics investments are surging with breakthroughs in physical AI.”

The YouTube Music 2024 Recap has launched before Spotify Wrapped 2024 – here’s how to find it
There’s lots to explore in the recap for YouTube Music this year, including your top tracks and your ‘music character’.
The YouTube Music 2024 Recap is rolling out nowIt shows you your top artists, tracks, albums, and moreYou also get a 100-track playlist of the year
It’s that time of year again – the time when all of our music streaming apps remind us of our listening habits across the last 12 months. We’re still waiting for Spotify Wrapped 2024, but the YouTube Music 2024 Recap is now here for everyone (after appearing for some earlier in the week).
As always with YouTube Music recaps, remember that the music and podcasts you’ve played through YouTube also count towards your stats. If you find some parts of your recap a little baffling, that might be why.
The recap isn’t too dissimilar to the format YouTube Music used last year: you’ll be told how much listening you’ve done in total, and the app presents you with the songs, albums, and artists you’ve listened to the most over the course of the year.
You can compare your music cred against other YouTube Music users too: for one of your most-listened-to artists, you’ll be told how much of a superfan you are compared to the average listener on the platform.
How to find your recap
(Image credit: Future / YouTube Music)
The recap should show up the next time you open the YouTube Music app: just tap Let’s do this to see it. If you dismiss the notification, you can find the recap again by going to the Home tab and scrolling past your personal mixes.
You then work through your recap like a story on Snapchat or Instagram – tap to go forward, or tap and hold to pause. You get told the ‘vibes’ of your year, and how many different tracks you listened to, and what your top five tracks were.
Along the way you get invited to save a 2024 Recap playlist to your library: this has the top 100 songs you listened to the most across the year (remember, YouTube is included, and you might see some videos in the playlist too).
The recap will give you a brief timeline history of your listening, as well as identifying your ‘music character’ – how adventurous (or otherwise) your music tastes have been over the last 12 months, for example. Over to you, Spotify.

Hyundai unveils the gargantuan Ioniq 9 – a seven-seater SUV that can cruise for 385 miles on a charge and sterilize your smartphone
The longest Hyundai in the current line-up offers plenty of interior room and an enticing all-electric range.
Spacious SUV arrives to take on the Volvo EX90 and Kia EV9Aerodynamic shape means maximum efficiency Ioniq 9 will be launched in Korea and North America early next year
During a glitzy unveiling in the Hollywood hills, Hyundai took the wraps off the longest car in its current line-up – and the one it hopes will appeal to the local audience of big car lovers.
The Ioniq 9 joins the Ioniq 6 electric Sedan and the popular Ioniq 5 crossover, riding on the same E-GMP electric platform as the recently-released EV 9 from sister company Kia. But here, Hyundai has stretched the wheelbase to the max (3,130mm / 123.2 inches) to ensure it can offer class-leading roominess and comfort.
Global head of design, Sangyup Lee, explained that the vehicle’s sleek silhouette is “almost entirely” influenced by wind tunnel testing and that the car he was showing me around was still being fettled in a wind tunnel right up until just a few months ago.
“Our designers spent more time in the wind tunnel than they did in our studios. But all of the curves are there to reduce the drag coefficient,” he added.
“We managed to lower it to 0.25 for those models with digital wing mirrors, which is less than that of our Sonata and Elantra sedan models,” he says.
Far from the most riveting subject, the drag coefficient – or Cd number – is a big deal when it comes to electric vehicles, as it generally improves their slipperiness and overall efficiency. Hyundai says it is aiming for a targeted energy consumption of 3.2 miles per kWh, which betters that of both the Kia EV9 and the Volvo EX90.
As a result, the Ioniq 9 is good for around 385 miles on a single charge of the whopping 110.3kWh floor-mounted, NMC lithium-ion battery pack – the largest currently available from the Korean marque.
Pixel burn
Continuing the brand’s love affair with Parametric Pixel LED lamps, the Ioniq 9 features a full array of cuboid lights that cover much of the front end and surround the rear tailgate, which is neatly pulled in like a boat tail.
Sangyup Lee says the pixelated lights give a neat nostalgic touch, citing one of his favorite retro video games in Tetris. “Kids these days play Roblox,” he added, while explaining how he plans to take the “pixel identifier” to the next level with future models.
The retro theme continues at the front, with a large black fascia housing all of the sensors and cameras required for advanced levels of autonomous driving.
Sangyup describes it as a “VHS cassette” that can be removed, allowing the team to update the internals as technology improves without having to change the overarching design of the front end.
Available as either a three-row seven-seat model, or a six-seat version, there’s masses of room inside for up to seven adults. Sit in the front seat and you almost have to send a carrier pigeon to communicate with those in the rearmost rows.
All of the interior seats fold and slide elegantly at the press of a button, making it simple for everyone to get in and out, while front seat passengers get the latest Relaxation Seats that use pressure and vibration to stimulate blood flow and circulation.
Six-seat versions feel even more palatial inside, with the ability for the second row of ‘captain’s chairs’ to swivel and face those in the third row. Like a London cab but a lot more comfortable and luxurious.
“We listened to feedback from customers of the six-seat Kia EV 9 and found that some were complaining that the rear passengers brushed knees when the chairs were facing each other, which is part of the reason why we stretched the wheelbase, to ensure maximum legroom for all occupants,” Sangyup Lee explained.
Practical magic
Clearly designed with families and folks with a lot of kit to carry in mind, the Ioniq 9 boasts plenty of neat and clever touches. There are two wireless charging trays for smartphones, for example, with one of those cubbyholes using UV-C invisible light to sterilize small items, like keys, wallets and your dirty, finger-smudged phone.
There’s also a revised ‘Universal Island’ that sits in-between the driver and front passenger. It’s a little bit like the laptop part of the taco tray found in the Kia EV3, but this entire unit slides backwards or forwards by 190mm.
Why? Well, because self-confessed people-watcher and designer, Sangyup Lee, noticed the number of folk clambering across seats to exit a car parked too closely to other vehicles or a wall.
As a result, this console allows a neat ‘walk-through’ area for occupants to move from one side of the vehicle to the other, but also allows passengers to access the almost 20-liters of storage space from the back seats.
Predictably, there are USB-C charging outlets everywhere and vehicle-to-load functionality allows for most electrical devices to be powered by the car’s battery. What’s more, all of the seats can be folded completely flat in the rear to create an enormous, car-camping friendly space to hang out.
The infotainment system is made up of a 12-inch cluster and classy, curved 12-inch touchscreen system, but with much of the core functionality committed to good old fashioned buttons.
Lee confirmed that Hyundai was very much in favor of physical buttons in order to reduce the distraction posed by navigating endless menus on touchscreen displays.
Power to the people
The Ioniq 9 will first go on sale in Korea and North America, where models will be delivered in the first half of 2025. The UK and Europe will have to wait until around May 2025 and prices haven’t been announced for any markets.
That said, Hyundai has revealed that the large electric SUV will be powered by a 160kW rear motor in the rear-wheel-drive models, which will be able to hit 62mph from rest in 9.4 seconds.
A Long Range AWD version adds another 70kW motor to the front axle, while the Performance AWD model uses two 160kW motors. This most potent version can dispatch a 0-62mph sprint in just 5.2 seconds and go on to a top speed of 124mph. Not bad for a ridiculously heavy SUV.
Speaking of weight, the Ioniq 9 also offers a respectable towing capacity of 5,000lbs, which is on par with a Tesla Model X. However, Hyundai says the vehicle features a ‘trailer mode’ that automatically detects the weight of the trailer and adjusts the predicted battery range accordingly.
It’s a big, clever SUV that’s sure to resonate with a US market and, although final opinions will have to be reserved for a test drive, the Ioniq 9 looks to pack enough clever features and interior luxury to stick it to the more established ICE players.
Its slippery shape and wind-tunnel-tested exterior design also mean it might be marginally more efficient than its Kia EV 9 sibling – something that has let down an otherwise excellent electric SUV.

The Google Pixel Tablet 3 is dead according to leaks – long live Google foldables?
Google’s Pixel Tablet 3 might be canceled, but I think that’s great news for the Pixel Fold.
Google might have cancelled the Pixel Tablet 3Pixel Tablet 2 still rumored to be releasingMimics its Pixel Slate cancellation in 2019
Google’s next tablet could be its last, with a new report teasing that the Google Pixel Tablet 3 project has been recently canceled. That would mean that while we’ll hopefully still see the rumored Pixel Tablet 2 it likely won’t get a successor – and could be bad news for support and software optimization.
Android Headlines reports that “Multiple industry sources close to the project” have confirmed that development of the Pixel Tablet 3 – codenamed Kiyomi – has been halted. This isn’t the first time Google has canned its tablets with it pulling the same stunt in 2019 when it scrapped the Pixel Slate line (via Business Insider) only to revive its tablets last year.
As with all rumors these details should be taken with a pinch of salt. There’s a chance the leak is incorrect, or that the Tablet 3 will be reborn in a new form (I have some thoughts on that below), but it reminds us that Google is no stranger to killing off its projects. If Pixel Tablets are dead then it does raise the question of how much support the Tablet 2 will get, leading us to wonder if it’ll be a solid long-term investment or not.
Giving up on tablets, or going all-in on foldables?
I’ve been trying out the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold recently for an upcoming project, and just like I’ve found previously with the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6, the folding phone is basically just a pocket-sized tablet.
Sure, it’s not quite as large as a full-sized iPad or Pixel slate, but it many ways it’s big enough and it more than makes up for its size deficiencies with its portability; I don’t need a backpack or carry case for it, I just need a pocket that can fit a Google Pixel 9 Pro (which is the size it shrinks down to when folded).
With many tablets already feeling kinda like big phones, perhaps Google doesn’t see the advantage in continuing to work on a Pixel tablet, especially if it hopes its foldable will one day replace tablets altogether. Combine that with the fact its foldable has been better received than its tablet – our Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold review gave it four stars, while the Google Pixel Tablet review awarded it half a star less – and that the tablet space is dominated by one name (Apple’s iPads), and a foldable focus would make plenty of sense.
The only downside for us is that Google’s tablet-like phone isn’t affordable; sure its Tablet costs $499 / £599 / AU$899, which is already a little pricey, but at $1,799 / £1,749 / AU$2,699 the foldable is a lot less accessible. A foldable only approach would lock plenty of people out from its Pixel tablet-likes unless it introduces some kind of Pixel Fold 9a – to match its affordable Pixel a phones.
We’ll have to wait and see what Google announces, but hopefully the Pixel Tablet 3 door closing just means a new door is opening – and if that could lead to better (and cheaper) folding phones I’m not going to complain.

UK cloud market set to get stronger anti-competitive rules in clampdown on US giants
Britain’s Competition and Markets Authority is reportedly looking at investigating Microsoft, Amazon and Google over cloud dominance.
The CMA could be set to introduce new measures for a fairer cloud marketOfcom referred its 2022 findings to the CMA, which could make a decision soonKey considerations are egress and licensing fees and technical restrictions
The UK’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) is reportedly set to propose new measures to address anticompetitive business practices in the nation’s cloud market.
Such measures would address the current dominance held by hyperscalers like Amazon, Microsoft and Google.
The investigation stems from a 2022 Ofcom report examining the dominance that these companies have in the UK’s cloud sector – the review was previously referred from the communications regulator to the CMA to address these concerns.
CMA could investigate Amazon, Microsoft, Google’s dominance
The CMA reportedly has a provisional decision deadline of November to December 2024, meaning that the hyperscalers could soon be facing even more regulatory pressure after what seems like months of endless investigations.
If it goes ahead with its investigation, the CMA would target issues like egress fees, unfair licensing fees, discounts for larger clients and interoperability issues that present technical difficulties for those looking to switch providers.
Remedies could include price caps, reduced technical barriers and banning agreements that encourage customers to commit to higher spending.
Microsoft could also be asked to charge the same for its productivity software regardless of the cloud provider, something that could disrupt its existing model.
In a June 2024 report, the CMA said that it was in the early stages of looking into potential remedies. The Authority declined to comment on the timing.
For the three hyperscalers, this won’t be the first investigation that they’ve faced in recent months over anticompetitive practices. Microsoft has been in the spotlight a lot over its cloud terms in Europe and the US. Just last week the FTC indicated that it would be investigating Microsoft over locking customers into its Azure cloud platform – Amazon, Apple and Google are not exempt from similar pressures by the FTC either.

An end to rebooting? Microsoft’s latest change means you won’t need to restart your work laptop for every Windows update any more
No more unexpected restarts or reboots to install the latest Windows updates.
Hotpatching is coming to more Windows usersWindows 11 Enterprise and 365 security updates will no longer need a reboot to installBetter security and system performance are other benefits, Microsoft says
Being caught by an unexpected Windows update that reboots your PC without warning could soon be a thing of the past thanks to a new launch from Microsoft.
In what will be welcome news to anyone who has every had work interrupted by an unexpected Windows update, the company is finally introducing rebootless updates – but only for some users.
The new “hotpatch updates” will mean that Windows 11 Enterprise and 365 security updates will be able to be downloaded and installed via the existing Windows Updates program, meaning there’s no need to stop what you’re doing for a reboot.
Windows 11 hotpatch updates
“Hotpatch updates are scoped and provide a complete set of OS security patches. No additional features are included,” Microsoft’s David Callaghan noted in a blog post, confirming the new changes coming to Windows 11 Enterprise version 24H2.
“They are unique in that they take effect immediately upon installation without requiring you to restart your device, helping to ensure focused, rapid protection.”
Hotptaching reduces the amount of system downtime for each restart for any security patch, as they update the in-memory code, meaning a reboot is not required, lowering the workload impact but also meaning updates install faster and consume less disk and CPU resources due to less binaries being required.
The company also noted some of the other benefits of hotpatching, including better protection due to hotpatch update packages being scoped to Windows security updates that install faster without requiring you to restart your machine, as well as reducing the time exposed to security risks and change windows, and easier patch orchestration with Azure Update Manager.
Microsoft has been experimenting with hotpatch updates for some time, with the tool available for Windows Server 2022 Datacenter: Azure Edition since February 2022, as well as the newer Windows Server 2025.
There’s no news about whether other editions of Windows will be included, so Windows 11 Home and Pro users may have to wait a little longer, but for now, business and enterprise users will be able to enjoy a reboot-less update process.
“With hotpatch updates, you can quickly take measures to help protect your organization from the evolving landscape of cyberattacks, while minimizing user disruptions,” Callaghan added.
“Hotpatching represents a significant advancement in our journey to help make you and everyone who uses Windows more secure and productive.”

Newly leaked Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra dummy units show off the design updates ready for 2025
A new camera trim, rounded corners, and perhaps a larger screen? Upgrades are on the way.
A variety of dummy S25 Ultra unit shots have leakedThe Galaxy S25 Ultra appears to be getting some design tweaksBlack and white/silver colors have been pictured
We’ve seen plenty in the way of leaks for the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra, but this is one of the most significant ones yet: a variety of photos of Galaxy S25 Ultra dummy units have shown up online, revealing just about everything in terms of the flagship phone’s design.
Dummy units are built from schematic info given to phone accessory makers so they can get their cases and other wares ready for launch day. This means they tend to be pretty accurate – and the pictures were posted by two of the most well-known tipsters in the business, @Jukanlosreve and @OnLeaks.
While the Galaxy S25 Ultra certainly won’t be ushering in a revolution in smartphone design, there are changes from the Galaxy S24 Ultra here. The rear camera lenses have got a new, colored trim for example, which has previously been predicted.
And the corners of the phone are much more rounded than they are on the current model – again, this is a design change that has leaked before. It means the Galaxy S25 Ultra will look more like the other phones in the Galaxy S25 series.
What we’re expecting
#Samsung #GalaxyS25Ultra 😏 https://t.co/0uhZEa0ZaB pic.twitter.com/r6LC8FWiwjNovember 20, 2024
The Galaxy S25 Ultra is shown in black and a white or silver shade in these leaked images, which fits in with previous leaks on the color options. Blue and gray could be among the other colors available when the handset finally sees the light of day.
Although you can’t tell from these images, the screen size of the Galaxy S25 Ultra is predicted to be 6.86 inches (up from 6.8 inches on the current model), with the increase supposedly the result of thinner bezels.
We’ve heard conflicting reports about what might be coming in terms of rear camera upgrades on this phone, though we’re choosing to believe the most positive ones: that at least a couple of the four cameras will get upgrades.
There isn’t much longer to wait to find out for sure what Samsung has been working on. The Galaxy S25 Ultra, the standard Galaxy S25, and the Galaxy S25 Plus are all expected to see the light of day sometime in January.
