Verizon is experiencing a huge outage affecting its mobile services across the country.
“During the incident we received reports from Benton, Brookland, Washington, Dover, Brandon, Cape Coral, Clermont, Naples, Ocala, Oviedo, Palm Bay, Rockledge, St. Petersburg, Atlanta, Dalton, Decatur, Bloomington, Carmel, Cloverdale, Fishers and 223 other cities,” according to a website tracking the outage.
There are also more than 100,000 user reports of problems on Downdetector. Downdetector’s outage map shows hotspots in many places, including New York and Atlanta. Based on that map, it appears as though the outages are more prevalent on the East Coast.
Verizon is replying to multiple people expressing complaints to its support account on X, though, from the posts I’ve seen, the account hasn’t explicitly confirmed an outage or service issue or said where the problems might be more prevalent. Many users are reporting to that account that their phones are in SOS mode.
“We are aware of an issue impacting service for some customers,” Verizon spokesperson Ilya Hemlin said in a statement to The Verge. “Our engineers are engaged and we are working quickly to identify and solve the issue.”
Updates, September 30th: Added Verizon statement, updated the quote about reports of which cities affected, and noted that Downdetector now shows more than 100,000 user reports.
