Refurbished first-gen AirPods Max headphones are $250 off for today only

Apple’s revised AirPods Max with USB-C are just a few days away from their launch on September 20th, but if you don’t mind a Lightning port the older (nearly identical) model can be had right now for much less. That’s because Best Buy seems to be clearing stock of refurbished first-gen AirPods Max, discounting them in a variety of colors for $299.99 ($250 off), which is as cheap as the flagship Apple headphones get — but the one-day deal ends late tonight at 1AM ET / 10PM PT.
The AirPods Max may be nearly four years old, but they’re still a great pair of noise-canceling headphones if you’re deep in Apple’s ecosystem and appreciate some exceptional (although, heavy) build quality. They offer excellent, balanced sound and support for some handy features like automatic switching between Apple devices (across iPhones, iPads, and Macs), as well as spatial audio. And, frankly, the new versions with USB-C are pretty much identical to the originals aside from some new colors and the updated port. Just keep in mind that going with Best Buy’s refurbs means getting a 90-day warranty through the retailer as opposed to a one-year warranty from Apple.

Best Buy has another great one-day deal on the Hoto Electric Screwdriver with an expanded 25-bit kit with magnetic case, selling for $49.99 ($30 off) — also on sale at Amazon for about $6 more. This screwdriver is a favorite among some Verge staffers (including yours truly), as it’s great for tinkerers and small projects around the house. Its range of three torque settings are powerful enough to help you sink some small wood screws into a wall or build Ikea furniture much faster without doing damage.
The latest model of Amazon Fire 7 Kids tablet is just $54.99 ($40 off) at Best Buy and direct from Amazon. The 7-inch slate designed for kids aged three to seven isn’t going to impress any tech savvy adults with its speed or specs, but it’s a fine device with lengthy battery life for reading books and streaming videos. The kid-ified version of Amazon’s regular tablet comes with a protective case, two-year protection plan, and offers online parental controls for limiting screen time.
