Chatbots offer cops the “ultimate out” to spin police reports, expert says

Experts warn chatbots writing police reports can make serious errors.

If you were suspected of a crime, would you trust a chatbot to accurately explain what happened?

Some police departments think the tech is ready. And offficers who have started using chatbots to quickly complete their most dreaded task of drafting police reports seemingly don’t want to go back to spending hours each week doing their own paperwork.

In June, a police department in Frederick, Colorado, boasted that it was the “first law enforcement agency in the world to go live with Axon Draft One,” a new kind of police tech that allows a chatbot to spit out AI-generated police reports almost immediately after a body camera stops recording a police interaction.

Stalker: Legends of the Zone Trilogy is coming to Nintendo Switch in November

Stalker: Legends of the Zone Trilogy will finally make its Nintendo Switch debut later this year.

Stalker: Legends of the Zone Trilogy will finally make its Nintendo Switch debut later this year.

Announced during the Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase, GSC Game World has revealed that the Legends of the Zone Trilogy, which includes all three games that make up the original Stalker series, including Shadow of Chornobyl, Clear Sky, and Call of Prypiat will be coming to Nintendo Switch on November 14.

These three versions have been optimized for Switch, featuring support for TV docked, handheld, and tabletop mode, as well as gyroscope integration and touchscreen controls.

“Thanks to these changes, the experience in the Chornobyl Anomalous Zone will feel authentic for all players – both for those who want to refresh their memories and for new stalkers,” GSC Game World said.

The Stalker: Legends of the Zone Trilogy was first announced and released earlier this year on Xbox One and PlayStation 4, as well as for Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and PlayStation 5 via backward compatibility.

Before this, the three classic Stalker games were only available on PC and were also “refined” for a console.

GSC Game World is also set to release Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl on November 20, for Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, PC, and day one on Xbox Game Pass.

The upcoming game was set to release on September 5 but was hit by a two-month delay so the studio could smooth out some emergency bugs. Stalker 2 was also delayed back in January from its original Q1 2024 release date for similar reasons.

New Netflix movie The Shadow Strays looks like an action-packed assassin hit going by the thrilling teaser trailer

Netflix has delivered some action flops in recent months, but The Shadow Strays could change that.

The Shadow Strays is the newest assassin movie from Timo Tjahjanto, the director behind The Night Comes For Us, which was one of 12 epic action movies we previously recommended that secured a high Rotten Tomatoes approval from critics and fans alike. This is good news if, like me, you’ve been left disappointed by Netflix’s recent action offerings like The Union, which has been Netflix’s #1 movie for the past two weeks.

Clearly, Netflix movies can be hit and miss, as we all know – indeed, its latest comedy offering Incoming was slammed by critics, earning a 27% rating on the review aggregator site. So you can probably tell why I’m keen to see more hits that we can add to our best Netflix movies, and perhaps The Shadow Strays fits the bill.

You’ll have to wait till around Halloween to watch it though. While Tjahjanto’s new movie will premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in September, it lands on Netflix on October 17. We’re sure it’ll be one of many exciting new additions, but hopefully there are some more horrors to look forward to. With October being my favourite time of year, I am excited to see what the best streaming service has in store.

The first teaser trailer for the new Netflix movie is certainly promising. It’s full of fast action sequences of an assassin fighting a crime syndicate with hardly any talking. It’s gripping stuff, filled with fist-fights, gunfights and flashing lights, which is everything you could want from an action movie, really! You can take a look at the teaser in the video above.

What is The Shadow Strays about?

The Shadow Strays follows someone known as ‘Codename 13’, a young assassin who finds herself suspended after a mission gone wrong. During this period of inactivity, she bonds with a young boy called Monji, who recently lost his mother to a crime syndicate.

But when Monji mysteriously disappears, Codename 13 decides to go off and find him, even if that does mean disobeying orders. So we’ve got a missing boy and a rogue assassin, a recipe for a very good movie. I can’t wait to see it!

Additionally, a statement from Netflix teases that: “The film dives deep into themes of redemption and loyalty, set against the backdrop of a brutal and unforgiving underworld. Audiences can expect Tjahjanto’s signature style, with expertly choreographed action sequences guaranteed to keep them on the edge of their seats.”

Netflix’s Wallace and Gromit movie features a ‘smart gnome’ robot in a teaser clip

Netflix and the BBC have released an all-too-brief look at Wallace and Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl. A clip from the stop-motion animated movie features Wallace proudly revealing his latest invention, a “smart gnome” called Norbot. The robot aggressively shakes Gromit’s paw while introducing itself to the pooch, hinting at trouble ahead.
It’s a very short clip, but it’s full of charm and wit. The concept of a smart gnome as a riff on the smart home is funny by itself and it perfectly matches the type of humor the Wallace and Gromit series is known for. Wallace encouraging Gromit to put the voice-activated Norbot through its paces is a great touch too, considering that the beagle is famously silent.
There’s something not quite right about Norbot — the robot has a creepy design and an all-too-chipper attitude (the great Reece Shearsmith voices it). According to the Radio Times, the smart gnome is designed to perform any gardening task or “gnome improvement” (heh). It proves a hit with Wallace and Gromit’s neighbors, at least until things start to go wrong in what may well be cinema’s most terrifying instance of AI running amok yet. Wallace and Gromit will have even more problems on their plate, as the film includes the return of franchise villain Feathers McGraw.
“We are delighted to introduce Norbot, a ‘Nifty Odd-jobbing Robot’ gnome, designed to help Gromit with his gardening chores,” directors Nick Park (the series’ creator) and Merlin Crossingham said in a statement. “Norbot is Wallace’s most proud achievement to date and, according to Wallace, his ‘best invention ever!’ Garden gnomes have long been a part of Wallace and Gromit’s world, but this is no cute patio ornament… We’re so excited to see Wallace unleashing his latest invention, Norbot, into the world. However, his long-suffering pooch, Gromit, may be a little less sure…”
It’s almost hard to believe that Wallace and Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl is just the second full-length film in the franchise’s long and Oscar-laden history. It will arrive almost two decades after The Curse of the Were-Rabbit.

Managing the IPv4 to IPv6 transition

Learn how IPv6 adoption is transforming network security and addressing IPv4 limitations.

The global transition from IPv4 to IPv6 has gained major traction, driven by the urgent need to accommodate a rapidly expanding number of internet-connected devices and the introduction of IPv6 addresses. Historically, the shift to IPv6 was slow, with many regions taking years to offer IPv6 service. But currently, the transition has, in fact, picked off significantly and this represents the critical necessity for a denser addressing system.

As of 2024, the adoption of IPv6 has surged, with significant contributions from major ISPs around the world. Many countries have been migrating to the latest version of the Internet Protocol in recent years. According to Google’s Per-Country IPv6 adoption statistics, France leads with the highest percentage of IPv6 connectivity at 74.35%, while the USA has 52.76%.

Notably, over 43% of Google users now access the internet via IPv6, highlighting the widespread adoption and importance of this protocol for the future of internet connectivity.

Alright, so basically let’s start from scratch and understand why this transition is important. Primarily, we would need to understand what IP addresses are and why they suffice with so much importance for networking.

What Is IP?

IP, short for Internet Protocol, is fundamental in network communication. It assigns a unique identifier, called an IP address, to each device on a network. These addresses enable devices to communicate, help route data packets, and serve as identification within the network. IP breaks down data into smaller packets, so that it can transmit over a network smoothly.

There are currently two versions of Internet Protocol: IPv4 (IP version 4) and IPv6 (IP version 6).

What Is IPv4?

IPv4 is the fourth version of IP, which establishes the rules for computer networks functioning on the principle of packet exchange. It can uniquely identify devices connected to the network through an addressing system. Whenever a device gets access to the Internet (whether it’s a switch, PC, or other devices), it is assigned a unique, numerical IP address such as 192.149.252.76 as shown below. The IPv4 uses a 32-bit address scheme allowing us to store 2^32 addresses (4.19 billion addresses).

What Is IPv6?

IPv6 (Internet Protocol Version 6) was deployed in 1999 concerning that the demand for IP addresses would exceed the available supply. It allows communication and data transfer to take place over a network. IPv6 is a 128-bit IP address which supports 2^128 Internet addresses in total. The use of IPv6 not only solves the problem of limited network addresses resources but also resolves the barriers for multiple access devices to connect to the Internet. An IPv6 address could be written like this: 3ffe:1900:fe21:4545:0000:0000:0000:0000.

In other words, IPv6 has a much larger address space and embedded functionality by ease of configuration, more security to enhance, and performance to boost, whereas IPv4 is still fairly widely used but with some serious restrictions because of the relatively small address space and requirements of more complicated address management.

The full availability of unique addresses in the IPv6 is important because it is usual for businesses to add more and more devices and the availability becomes limitless for such cases. IPv6 provides a much larger pool of addresses, allowing businesses to easily connect a larger variety of devices and services to their networks.

Sticking with IPv4: challenges and business realities

Many companies continue to rely on IPv4 despite the advantages of IPv6. The reasons vary:

– Upgrading the infrastructure and applications would cost an arm and a leg for many organizations to switch to IPv6.

– Because the systems are used by many organizations, compatibility issues are created between IPv6 and the existing systems.

– Moreover, there is some level of ignorance in some institutions on the existence and benefits of IPv6 as an option for their networking needs.

However, as the number of available IPv4 addresses continues to decrease, businesses will need to adopt IPv6 to continue to grow and expand their networks.

IPv4, IPv6, and cybersecurity

The adoption of IPv6 not only addresses the scalability limitations of IPv4 but also necessitates solid cybersecurity solutions across various sectors. Unlike IPv4, which relies on network address translation (NAT) and lacks robust built-in security features, IPv6 offers advancements like IPsec (Internet Protocol Security). IPsec ensures encrypted and authenticated communication, enhancing the confidentiality and integrity of data transmitted over networks.

With these tech advancements, security experts need to understand these differences and take the right steps to keep their networks secure during the transition. Besides, both IPv4 and IPv6 protocols have protocol-specific threats, and monitoring network traffic in both protocols is essential for threat detection and mitigation.

The step to IPv6 also brings about a valuable opportunity to review and reinforce the overall network security architecture. Organizations can leverage this transition period to implement comprehensive security frameworks that address both existing and emerging threats. This would include deployment of firewalls and intrusion detection/prevention systems designed to handle IPv6 traffic, in addition to updating security policies and procedures to reflect the new protocol. Embracing IPv6 is a technical upgrade, but it’s also strategic in developing a security framework on your network and for a more secure future.
