These new Pokémon SD cards from Western Digital are absolutely adorable and perfect for Nintendo Switch

Pokémon fans will appreciate these seriously cute officially licensed Nintendo Switch SD cards.

Western Digital has announced a new line of SanDisk microSD cards in partnership with The Pokémon Company. These SD cards, which have been designed for the Nintendo Switch, feature officially licensed Pokémon designs.

The SD cards will be available to purchase directly from the Western Digital Store in addition to select physical and digital retailers and come in three capacities. The largest is the 1TB SanDisk Pokémon Snorlax microSD Card. It’s a light baby blue and features a cute graphic of the Snorlax Pokémon.

There is also the 512GB SanDisk Pokémon Gengar microSD Card which, as the name would suggest, is a deep purple and features the ghost and poison type Pokémon Gengar. The final and smallest capacity model is the 256GB SanDisk Pokémon Pikachu microSD Card. It’s neon yellow and has an adorable image of a very pleased looking Pikachu.

All three editions feature prominent Nintendo Switch branding, so you don’t need to worry about any potential compatibility issues if you intend to buy them for the console. They all also offer quoted read speeds of up to 100MB/s and write speeds of 90MB/s, which is comfortably within the specifications recommended by Nintendo.

The 1TB model will retail for $129.99 / £108.99, the 512GB model for $54.99 / £47.99, and the 256GB model for $32.99 / £24.99. This makes them all a little more expensive than comparable microSD cards, but I expect that there will be plenty of discounts around major sales events such as Amazon Prime Day or Black Friday. It also seems reasonable to pay a little more for the Pokémon design and Nintendo branding.

Western Digital has previously released other licensed designs for the Nintendo Switch, including some inspired by the Super Mario series and Animal Crossing: New Horizons. They rank among some of the best SD cards for Switch thanks to their charming designs and ready compatibility with the system.

The X account for The Game Awards — another big showcase hosted by Keighley — has already shared that we can expect to see Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, Monster Hunter Wilds, Marvel Rivals, Dune: Awakening, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, and Civilization VII. Keighley has used his own X account to tease that games like Squid Game: Unleashed, Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero, and Little Nightmares III will be at the show. Google is ending its Android app store bug bounty program

Entries for the Google Play Security Reward Program will no longer count after August 31 due to increased security.

Google has announced it will be ending its Google Play Security Reward Program, a bug bounty initiative which allowed researchers and developers to identify and resolve vulnerabilities in popular Android apps for nearly seven years.

Launched in October 2017, the program attracted security researchers to discover and disclose flaws found in apps distributed through the Google Play Store.

Despite the program’s success, Google has decided to wind down the program owing to a decrease in the number of reported actionable vulnerabilities.

Google Play Security Reward Program

Initially, the program focused on a select group of developers and apps, offering rewards of up to $5,000 for the most critical vulnerabilities like remote code execution. Eventually, in 2019, the scope widened to include all apps distributed on the platform with over 100 million downloads, with payouts reaching $20,000.

In an email seen by Android Authority, the Android Security Team wrote: “As a result of the overall increase in the Android OS security posture and feature hardening efforts, we’ve seen fewer actionable vulnerabilities reported by the research community.”

The email goes on to confirm that the program will end on August 31 2024, and reports submitted up until then will be triaged by September 15. Reward decisions will be made by September 30 upon the official discontinuation of the program.

Moreover, Google blocked 2.28 million privacy-violating apps and banned 333,000 malicious developer accounts last financial year, alongside other Play Store improvements.

However, with the termination of the Google Play Security Reward Program, researchers could be less motivated to report issues, potentially leaving some apps more exposed, raising concerns about future vulnerabilities and the platform’s security.

Netflix’s new movie Daughters has 100% on Rotten Tomatoes but nobody seems to be watching it

New Netflix documentary Daughters is a hidden gem with 100% on Rotten Tomatoes that’s flown under the radar.

The new Netflix movie Daughters has a perfect 100% Rotten Tomatoes score from the critics, but hardly anyone seems to be watching.

Daughters appears to have flown completely under the radar as it hasn’t reached Netflix’s global top 10 most-watched movies – even though these five thriller flops did last week. Since it was released on August 14, it has received 50 critic reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, giving it a perfect 100% Rotten Tomatoes score.

The award-winning documentary is certainly a hidden gem buried amongst everything new on Netflix in August 2024. When I went to find Daughters in Netflix’s ‘New’ section, I had to click through four rows of recommendations before I found it, so it’s incredibly easy for new titles to get lost in the content mines of the best streaming service and not be watched by many people amongst the mainstream competition.

Another reason Daughters may not be getting the attention it deserves is possibly because of the heartbreaking subject matter. The documentary centres on four girls who prepare to reunite with their fathers through a special Daddy Daughter Dance at a Washington DC jail. The documentary lays bare the emotional anguish the father’s imprisonment has on the young girls and subscribers may opt to watch an action-packed blockbuster over the weekend to save themselves from the tears. However, Daughters is a powerful and touching portrayal of love that deserves more attention.

Get the tissues ready

Easily one of the best Netflix documentaries, Daughters follows Aubrey, Santana, Raziah and Ja’Ana as they prepare for a Daddy Daughter Dance with their incarcerated fathers as part of a unique fatherhood program where in-person visits have been stopped since 2014. On the inside, the fathers go through a 12-week Fatherhood Training Program that readies them for the emotional fallout of the day and dedicating themselves for their daughters.

Daughters is an eight-year documentary journey by filmmaker Natalie Rae and social change advocate Angela Patton where the girls also talk about their aspirations, dreams and the emotional impact their father’s absence has had on them.

While Netflix’s marketing hasn’t been doing Daughters justice, there have been a swathe of positive reviews with Mashable writing: “Daughters is easily one of the best documentaries you’ll see all year. It’s enlightening, it’s moving, and it’s stunning to watch. Patton and Rae focus on the experience of four little girls to illustrate such a specific loss that’s often overlooked in conversations about the criminal justice system.”

The Guardian added: “I found myself choking up barely a minute into this heartfelt documentary about a daddy-daughter dance scheme for the girls of incarcerated fathers in Washington DC, such is the emotional wallop of this terrific, Sundance prize-winning film.” Meanwhile, Rolling Stone said: “’Overwhelming’ doesn’t begin to describe it. Boxes of tissues can’t stem the tide of tears – onscreen or in your living room. Even the toughest viewer will be reduced to a puddle.”

So it looks like I will need tissues when I get round to watching Daughters.

New iPhone 16 Thermal Design High on Buyers’ Wishlist, Survey Suggests

A recent survey conducted by SellCell suggests that a significant majority of iPhone users are planning to upgrade to the upcoming iPhone 16 series, with many expressing a preference for a better thermal design to prevent overheating issues.

The survey, which polled over 2,000 US-based ‌iPhone‌ owners (1,000 males and 1,000 females), found that 61.9% of respondents plan to purchase an ‌iPhone 16‌ model upon release.

Competitive pricing emerged as the most crucial factor, with 30.9% of respondents citing it as the primary influence on their decision to upgrade. But it was improved heat management that turned out to be another key area of interest, with 26.8% of users hoping for better thermal performance to prevent overheating issues.

Shortly after the iPhone 15 Pro and ‌iPhone 15 Pro‌ Max were released last September, some customers began to experience an issue with the devices overheating. Apple eventually mitigated the problem with an iOS 17 update, but ‌iPhone 16‌ models are expected to be equipped with a new thermal design to address potential overheating.

The SellCell survey also revealed significant interest in Apple Intelligence capabilities for the ‌iPhone 16‌. A striking 82.1% of respondents expressed willingness to wait up to a month after release for the AI features to be fully implemented. Apple plans to release Apple Intelligence features in an iOS 18.1 update that is expected to arrive in October.

Another intriguing finding was the interest in larger displays for the ‌iPhone 16‌ series. Despite the current ‌iPhone 15 Pro‌ Max already boasting a 6.7-inch screen, over half of the respondents (54.9%) indicated they would welcome even bigger iPhones. The finding chimes with expectations that the iPhone 16 Pro models will have slightly bigger displays.

However, there was a notable gender divide on the issue of display size. The majority of men (62.1%) were in favor of larger displays, while women are more evenly split, with 47.8% expressing interest in bigger screens. Some female respondents cited concerns about handling and holding larger devices comfortably.

For those who said they won’t be buying the ‌iPhone 16‌, most people (34.2%) cited the expense as the reason, closely followed by people who won’t invest because they are keeping their existing phone (34.1%).

Apple is expected to announce its new ‌iPhone 16‌ lineup next month at an event that could take place on Tuesday, September 10, although Apple has not yet provided official confirmation of the date.Related Roundups: iPhone 16, iPhone 16 ProTag: SellCellThis article, “New iPhone 16 Thermal Design High on Buyers’ Wishlist, Survey Suggests” first appeared on MacRumors.comDiscuss this article in our forums
