Have CEOs Changed?
A new paper on the National Bureau of Economic Research: Using more than 4,900 assessments, we study changes in the characteristics and objectives of CEOs and top executives since 2001. The same four factors explain roughly half of the variation of assessed CEO characteristics in this larger sample of executive assessments as in Kaplan and Sorensen (2021). After the global financial crisis (GFC), the average interviewed CEO candidate has lower overall ability, is more execution oriented / less interpersonal, less charismatic and less creative/strategic than pre-GFC. Except for overall ability and execution oriented/interpersonal, these differences persist in hired CEOs. Interpersonal or “softer” skills do not increase over time, either for CEO candidates or hired CEOs. Pre- and post-GFC, we find a positive correlation between the ability of assessed CEOs and other C-level executives assessed at the same company, suggesting that higher-ability executives complement each other. Finally, we look at the relation between the objectives for which the CEOs are interviewed and CEO characteristics.

Star Wars Outlaws PC requirements confirm you’ll need a high-end GPU for 4K 60FPS gameplay

The publisher shared the specs in a new blog post, where it also revealed additional features PC players can expect when the game releases in early access on August 27, alongside the official PC gameplay trailer.
Star Wars Outlaws will require 65GB of free space on an SSD and, at minimum settings at 1080p and 30FPS, will require at most an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660, AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT, or Intel Arc A750 GPU, paired with either an Intel Core i7-8700K or AMD Ryzen 5 4600 processor, along with 16GB of RAM.
For the recommended settings, which will run the game at 1080p/60 FPS with the “High” preset, users will need an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 Ti or AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT graphics card, an Intel Core i5-10400 or AMD Ryzen 5 5600X, and 16GB of RAM.
There’s also “Enthusiast” settings – for 1440p/60FPS at a High preset – that will require an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 or AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT, an Intel Core i5-11600 or AMD Ryzen 7 5800X, and 16GB of RAM.
As for Ultra settings, players will need a high-end GPU to run the game at 4K/60FPS and a Ultra preset with 16GB of RAM, including an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4080 or AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX, an Intel Core i7-12700K or the AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D.

The PC version of Star Wars Outlaws boasts a number of features, including ray-tracing, NVIDIA RTX dynamic illumination (RTXDI) support, NVIDIA DLSS 3.5, Intel XESS 1.3, and AMD FSR 3.0 support, as well as an uncapped frame rate, a 21:9 Cinematic Display mode and multi-monitor and ultrawide support.

It’s back to school season, which means many students and/or their parents are on the lookout for a laptop on which they can get schoolwork done. Depending on your needs, though, a tablet may do the trick (but you’ll likely still want a keyboard attachment for extended typing sessions). Tablets offer flexibility in terms of study and play, and it’s pretty hard to go wrong with a recent iPad.
As luck would have it, the 13-inch iPad Air M2 has dropped to its lowest price since Apple released it in May. The blue and space gray models are available for $729. That’s $70 off the regular price.
While it’s not the most powerful iPad around — the latest iPad Pro is the first device to use Apple’s M4 chips — the M2 iPad Air is a great option. It’s our recommendation for the best iPad for most people and we gave it a score of 91 in our review.
The M2 iPad Air delivers a great balance of performance, features and price. The 13-inch model has a brighter screen than its 11-inch sibling, and more screen real estate to get things done on. However, the 60Hz refresh rate is not as smooth as the 120Hz OLED panel on the latest iPad Pro.
The 8GB of included RAM and 128GB of base storage should be enough for basic tasks. The iPad Air will run for up to 10 hours on a single charge too.
There are cheaper and less-powerful iPads, but you’ll be futureproofed to a certain degree with this one. AI-driven Apple Intelligence features will be available on the M2 iPad Air when Apple rolls those out later this year, and you can play some modern games such as Death Stranding and the Resident Evil 4 remake on the tablet (there’s always the option to stream games from the cloud or local hardware too). One other feature we appreciate about this model is that Apple finally moved the front-facing camera to the horizontal edge, which makes much more sense for FaceTime or video calls in landscape mode.
