Sony’s PlayStation PC push now includes a controller customization app

Sony will now let you customize your PlayStation 5’s DualSense Edge controller on your PC. The new Accessories app for Windows lets you customize button assignments, change stick sensitivity, adjust trigger deadzones, and more.
This replaces the “Firmware updater for DualSense wireless controller” app introduced in 2022. It takes things a step further by letting you customize your DualSense Edge controller the same way you would on your PlayStation 5. Like the outgoing app, you can still use Accessories to update the firmware on the DualSense Edge and the standard DualSense from your PC.

Sony has already ported several of its top titles to PC, with the most recent additions including Horizon Forbidden West, Ghost of Tsushima, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, and The Last of Us Part I. It even released a PC adapter for its PSVR 2 virtual reality headset (although Sony still needs to iron out some kinks).
But with the launch of the Accessories app, it seems Sony is getting serious about bringing more tools to manage your account and device settings from your PC. Earlier this year, Sony also launched a PlayStation PC overlay that lets you view your friends list, Trophies, settings, and your PlayStation account — but it’s only available with Ghost of Tsushima to start.

“Should art be regulated by the SEC?” NFT artists file lawsuit

SEC had ruled that some NFT digital art pieces are unregistered securities.

Since around 2013, Jonathan Mann’s sole job has been writing and posting a song online each day. With titles ranging from “Yeah, I’m Rocking a Headband” to “Joe Biden, Retire” (posted July 1), his pop tunes are at turns whimsical and topical. Some go viral.

Still, says the Connecticut-based Mann (aka “Song a Day Mann”), monetization was a “slog.” Sales from distribution platform Bandcamp and advertising revenue from YouTube “never amounted to much.” Conference performances and jingle contests filled the gaps. Then came NFTs, which let Mann attach one-of-a-kind blockchain-based tokens to his songs so buyers could easily purchase unique copies online. The tech transformed his music-selling game.

Sony announces new PlayStation Accessories app that allows for full customization of the DualSense Edge controller on PC

Sony has announced a new way for users to fully customize their DualSense Edge controller on PC.

Sony has announced a new way for users to customize their DualSense Edge controller on PC.

As revealed in a new X / Twitter post today, PC players will now be able to fully customize their DualSense Edge controller directly from their desktop thanks to the brand-new PlayStation Accessories app.

With this app, which you can download here, Windows users can change settings and update the controller’s firmware directly from their PC. All you’ll need after installing the program is a USB cable or Bluetooth to connect your controller to your PC.

In a short tutorial video provided alongside the announcement post, it looks like users can not only change button layouts but also change other aspects of the controller, such as Stick Sensitivity/Deadzone, Trigger Deadzone, and Vibration/Trigger Effect Intensity.

Sony calls PlayStation Accessories the new name for “Firmware updater for DualSense wireless controller” in the Version 2.0.0.13 patch notes on the download page, and notes that it’s made “significant improvements to the overall design and user experience.”

The company also recommends installing the latest update for your app and controller as soon as possible now that the update has been released.

Elsewhere, Sony will be raising the retail price of the PlayStation 5 and all related peripherals in Japan – including the PlayStation VR2 and DualSense Wireless controllers – beginning September 2.

The company cites a “challenging external environment” that includes the “current fluctuations in the global economic situation” for its decision to deliver a price hike to its PlayStation tech.

This means that both the PS5 standard and digital edition will cost an additional 13,000 yen (roughly $90), making it the third price hike since the console launched in Japan in 2020.

Waiting on the AMD Radeon RX 8000 GPU? We may now know its specs thanks to a benchmark leak

We might finally know the AMD Radeon RX 8000 GPU’s specs, thanks to a new Geekbench benchmark leak.

Plenty of the best graphics cards get their specs leaked through benchmarks before their official launch, and a new Geekbench leak for the upcoming AMD Radeon RX 8000 GPU series continues the trend.

The graphics card, listed under the code designation GFX1201, appears under new entries on Geekbench linked to the AMD RDNA4 architecture, as reported by VideoCardz. The codename matches with the identifier for the RDNA4 cards, as how GFX11 is used for RDNA3 cards, so it’s highly probable that it’s the RX 8000-series.

The RX 8000 graphics card shown in Geekbench has 28 Compute Units (CU) referring to Work Group Processors. When the number is properly doubled it means the graphics card mostly likely has 56 CUs and 3,584 Stream Processors. It also seems that it has a clock speed of 2,101MHz. The leak also confirms that the card will have 16GB of VRAM, and though the memory type hasn’t been confirmed it’s most likely GDDR6.

Keep in mind, however, that even if this is all true, we still don’t know what kind of sample graphics card it is. It could be a qualification sample or even an engineering sample, which would mean it doesn’t have the full specs or clock speeds that the final product will feature.

This is backed by the fact that both the clock speed and test results are extremely low, the latter even lower than the Nvidia GTX 1650 graphics card. So while we have some relatively concrete numbers, not everything is worth analyzing at this point. So make sure to take this leak with a grain of salt until we get the full picture closer to the RX 8000’s launch.

What will the RX 8000 series be made for?

Rumors concerning the AMD RX 8000-series powered by RDNA 4 have been surfacing since 2022, with information then hinting at a 2024 release. Two years later, more rumors since then have revealed a likely release window of either late 2024 or 2025.

A recent report implies that the Navi 48 flagship will be making its debut during CES 2025, with the Navi 44 coming sometime in Q2 2025. Both Navi 44 and 48 are mid-range graphics cards, with claims that the latter would match the RX 7900 XTX in terms of performance but could come at a lower price point.

Another concerning issue is that reports and rumors have been pointing to the RX 8000 series being little more than for minor improvements, with the RDNA 4 considered a “bug fix” of sorts for RX 7000 graphics cards. This is seemingly confirmed by other rumors asserting that there won’t be any high-end cards for the RX 8000 series.

Though these graphics cards won’t be built for power, the fact that we’re most likely getting mid-range cards at budget pricing is still quite fortunate. Not to mention that they’ll be addressing the issues with the 7000 series, so it seems that this is a net positive for gamers and other buyers awaiting the next-gen.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 trailer introduces Keanu Reeves’ broody Shadow

The first Sonic the Hedgehog movie was surprisingly great (certainly more so than the outright terrible Borderlands or the all too safe Super Mario Bros.), thanks to a genuinely funny script and Jim Carrey going wild as Dr. Robotnik. After introducing Idris Elba’s Knuckles in the second film (andhis own Paramount+ TV series), now we’re getting Sonic’s broody counterpart Shadow in Sonic the Hedgehog 3.
Voiced by Keanu Reeves, who sounds like an angstier John Wick in the trailer, Shadow is introduced as an alien who has lived through tragedy and is out for some unspecified revenge. (His real problem though, as fans of the Fast and Furious franchise will tell you, is his lack of #family.)
Judging from the trailer, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 clearly feels like the third entry in a franchise. Sonic and Knuckles are now frenemies who’ve banded together, alongside Tails, to form the Sonic Team. But when confronted with Shadow’s anger and nihilism, they have no choice but to team up with Robotnik to take him down. Personally, I’m just hoping Shadow at some point says, “I’m going to need a gun.”
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 hits theaters December 20th.
