A lightweight, go-anywhere EV? Ariel reveals E-Nomad concept.

With enough interest, the “seriously clean fun” concept could go into production.

The low-volume British carmaker Ariel got its start with a reimagining of the iconic Lotus Seven, gaining something of a reputation for building the car that filled Jeremy Clarkson’s epiglottis full of bees on Top Gear, back when that was the most-torrented TV show on the Internet. Then it expanded its lineup with the Nomad, which added off-road ground ability to the mix, creating a car that starred on The Grand Tour as well as in the last few iterations of Forza Horizon. Today, Ariel unveiled its idea for an all-electric take on that go-anywhere car with the E-Nomad.

Ariel says the E-Nomad can match the more than respectable acceleration of its gas-powered car, which means 0–60 mph (98 km/h) in 3.4 seconds despite wearing nobbly all-terrain tires. But rapidly accelerating electric vehicles aren’t anything special. What does stand out is the E-Nomad’s relative lack of mass—it tips the scales at just 1,975 lbs (896 kg), less than half as much as most of the EVs on sale today.

The E-Nomad’s 41 kWh battery pack lives behind the cabin, replacing the internal combustion engine and fuel tank you’d find on the regular car. Ariel sourced it from Rockfort Engineering and says the pouch cells offer “best-in-class energy density.” In total, the battery pack weighs less than 660 lbs (300 kg) and can send up to 281 hp (210 kW) to the drive unit at the rear. The drive has a peak torque output of 361 lb-ft (490 Nm) and is optimized for mass, weighing 202 lbs (92 kg).

YouTube Music now lets you share your personalized radio station with everyone

YouTube Music has made it a lot easier to share your customized radio station with friends and followers.

The best music streaming services – Apple Music, Spotify and YouTube Music to name a few – offer personalized radio stations of tracks they think you’ll love listening to based on your music listening habits. Now YouTube Music is making it a lot easier to share your personalized mix with friends and followers by letting you share your playlist directly to your channel.

The feature is now widely rolling out to users under the name ‘Radio You,’ (via 9to5Google) and while it’s similar to previous features that have let you share your favorite songs, artists and playlists on your channel the advantage of Radio You it that it’s “always updating” according to Google – specifically Google says it’s “refreshed daily”

This means you don’t have to feel embarrassed if you’ve forgotten to update your playlist in months, as Radio You will always be ready to share something new with listeners.

To share your radio – or other personal music stats – go to the YouTube Music app or webpage, navigate to your channel page, and tap the Edit button with the pencil icon next to it, then under Chanel Settings toggle on ‘Enable public stats’ and/or ‘Enable public personal radio’ and click Enable on the pop-up menu if you’re happy to share that information.

You can later toggle these settings off if you’d rather not share your listening habits on YouTube Music. And if you feel strange sending people to your channel to check out your radio, you can also access it via a direct link to the never-ending customized playlist.

Currently these recommendations are also just limited to your YouTube Music Channel, but it would be interesting to see YouTube add the ability to listen to your favorite content creator’s radio on their main channel if the feature is enabled.

The Radio You feature is currently rolling out, so if you don’t see it, it might be that the update hasn’t hit your account yet. Hold tight though, you should see the feature soon – with Google reportedly adding a Radio You card in the home feed, promoting the tool to you when you have access to it.

If you’re still waiting for it to show up there are other recently added tools you can try out on YouTube Music, like the ‘hum to search’ feature that’ll help you find tracks when you can only remember the tune and not the name.

GM and Samsung finalize deal for a $3.5 billion EV battery plant in Indiana

General Motors and Samsung SDI have finalized a $3.5 billion deal to build an electric vehicle battery plant in Indiana, the South Korean company announced Tuesday. The factory will have an initial capacity of 27GWh, which could go up to 36GWh.
The factory was expected to start production in 2026, but now it is anticipated that batteries won’t start rolling off the line until 2027 at the earliest. Construction at the factory is already underway, The News-Gazette reported.
The deal is a sign that the largest automaker in the US is still committed to scaling up EV production, even as its rivals pull back their investment and cancel models. EV sales are still growing, but some automakers are getting cold feet over their earlier predictions about a much more rapid shift in the industry.

The new factory will be located in New Carlisle, Indiana, a small community outside South Bend, on a 680-acre site. It is projected to create over 1,600 jobs when completed. GM and Samsung will receive incentives from the local community in the form of 100 percent tax abatements for 10 years. In exchange, GM said it would pay a $4.5 million infrastructure fee per year for 10 years to cover costs for sewer extensions, road improvements, and new fiber optic cables, according to The Detroit News.
Once completed, the factory will produce nickel-rich prismatic and cylindrical cells, which are distinct from the pouch-style packs currently used by GM’s Ultium battery vehicles.
GM is currently building three other battery factories in the US for a total annual capacity of 140GWh: one in Lordstown, Ohio, which is operational; Spring Hill, Tennessee, which is also in production; and Lansing, Michigan. GM switched to Samsung SDI after a recall of its Chevy Bolt electric vehicles equipped with batteries made by LG that were catching fire.
The plant is part of a host of new EV facilities that are expected to come online in the coming years, partly spurred by tax incentives approved by the Biden administration. Globally, battery production is expected to grow from 95.3GWh in 2020 to 410.5GWh in 2024, according to GlobalData, a data and analytics company.
Ford has said its three battery plants will enable 129GWh a year of production capacity. Volkswagen is building a new gigafactory in Ontario, Canada, in addition to several more around the world for a total capacity of 240GWh. Stellantis is planning a new factory, also in Indiana, which will have an initial annual production capacity of 23GWh. And BMW is aiming to have a new plant in South Carolina with 30GWh of production.
