Binance Code and Internal Passwords Exposed on GitHub for Months

A highly sensitive cache of code, infrastructure diagrams, internal passwords, and other technical information belonging to cryptocurrency giant Binance has been sitting on a publicly accessible GitHub repository for months, 404 Media has learned. From a report: Binance only managed to have GitHub remove the data under a copyright takedown request last week, but not before 404 Media and other people managed to view it. Although there is no public evidence this data was accessed or used by malicious parties, the cache contained a wealth of information that could be useful to hackers looking to compromise Binance’s systems.

“This account is using our client’s internal code which poses significant risk to Binancec. and causes severe financial harm to Binance and user’s confusion/harm,” a section of the takedown request, available on GitHub, reads. Another section says the GitHub repository is “hosting and distributing leaks of internal code which poses significant risk to BINANCE.” For example, one diagram included in a folder called “binance-infra-2.0” shows the interlocking between different parts of Binance’s various dependencies. The cache also contains a wealth of scripts and code. Some of that code appears to relate to how Binance implements passwords and multi-factor authentication. The code includes comments in both English and Chinese.

Xbox Game Pass: New games for February 2024

The post Xbox Game Pass: New games for February 2024 appeared first on ReadWrite.

Xbox gamers are set for a bumper month in February, following the bonanza list of new games coming to the service.

As confirmed by Pure Xbox, 35 new titles will be available to play, with a selection of them highlighted as the top picks, and three games have been added to the Xbox game pass service.

The titles are Persona 3 Reload, a captivating reimagining of the genre-defining RPG, reborn for the modern era with cutting-edge graphics and gameplay. Four days later comes the release of the dungeon exploring, Anuchard, followed by the co-op cooking room PlateUp! the following week.

How does Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass work?

Xbox Game Pass gives gamers a diverse game library accessible across Xbox consoles, PCs, and compatible devices.

Subscribers enjoy a constantly refreshed selection of AAA and indie titles, making it a versatile gaming solution. This subscription model has revolutionized the gaming industry, offering a cost-effective and flexible way for players to access a wide range of gaming experiences without needing to buy individual titles.

It’s not without drawbacks, however. The rotating library, which sees games removed or added sporadically, is not for everyone, and this lack of ownership may be a concern for those who prefer to have a permanent collection.

Top Xbox releases for February 2024

The review of the upcoming releases selected seven games as the pick of an extensive range of new additions for the Xbox, giving gamers an excellent choice and plenty to get stuck into.

Whatever your preferred genre, you are likely to be enticed by one of the following:

Persona 3 Reload

Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League

Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden

Tomb Raider 1-3 Remastered

Skull and Bones

Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons Remake

Star Wars: Dark Forces Remaster

Can you brave the Dark Hour?

Shopify’s ‘Magic’ AI image editor can make any product pics look professional

Shopify Magic Media Editor. | Image: Shopify

The Shopify Magic suite of generative AI tools that launched in April last year is adding a media editor that brings generative image fill to its platform and conversational search powered by AI. Merchants can prompt the image editor to change photo backgrounds without Photoshop experience to match whatever theme they have in mind.
Shopify’s AI editor can also suggest backgrounds and styles that match existing product images in the merchant’s library once it rolls out this spring.
Glen Coates, Shopify’s vice president of product, says many sellers on the platform don’t have access to big studios or professional photographers, but they still need to set their items up for success. Since there’s no additional cost to use this tool, it meets that demand. “We know not everyone has access to studios or mannequins, so we want to lower the barriers to entry for entrepreneurs to present their products in the best light,” Coates tells The Verge in an interview. “We’re not forcing anyone to use this feature, but it will be an extra helping hand.”

Image: Shopify
The model pulls from seven styles: minimal, which has more neutral backdrops; vibrant for fun and bright colors; natural with nature scenes; urban, which brings up cityscapes; rugged, which generates raw material elements; refined, which is the opposite of rugged materials; and surreal, which creates backgrounds that “violate the very laws of nature.”

Other generative AI tools Shopify added last spring include automated product descriptions, chatbot integration, and suggested replies for chats between merchants and buyers.

While Shopify does host larger brands — Kim Kardashian’s Skims uses the platform — a large chunk of its users are smaller independent sellers and direct-to-customer businesses. Shopify’s tools are competing with AI-powered features from other online shopping platforms. Amazon is testing one where customers can ask specific questions about products, and it has already rolled out AI tools that summarize product reviews and recommend clothing sizes.
The new search feature doesn’t rely on traditional Boolean searches or keyword matching, like “wedding guest dress spring.” Coates says people would rather write a more conversational search, like “I need a dress to wear to a wedding in spring.” Now, Shopify’s semantic search will read the intention behind the search string and, Coates says, will return more relevant results.
Coates says Shopify built its suite of AI tools with a mix of AI foundation models, and according to Shopify, they have watermarking and moderation tools built in. “We use models like GPT and Llama 2 and figure out which model works best for the feature we’re building,” he says.

Apple Releases visionOS 1.0.2 Two Days Before Vision Pro Launch

Apple today released a visionOS 1.0.2 update for the Vision Pro headset, according to developer Nicolás Álvarez. The software comes a week after the release of the visionOS 1.0.1 update.

There is no word on what is included in ‌visionOS‌ 1.0.2, and while the Vision Pro has yet to be released, review units are in the hands of members of the media, and they will be able to download and install this update.

‌visionOS‌ 1.0.2 addresses a WebKit vulnerability that Apple says may have been actively exploited. The issue was also fixed in ‌visionOS‌ 1.0.1 for developers, but the fix is in ‌visionOS‌ 1.0.2 for those updating from ‌visionOS‌ 1.0.

It is worth noting that Vision Pro owners will have a day one update to install this software when they begin receiving their headsets on Friday.

The Vision Pro will ship with version one of the ‌visionOS‌ software, but we are expecting to see ‌visionOS‌ 2 with new features at WWDC in June.Related Roundup: visionOSRelated Forum: Apple Vision ProThis article, “Apple Releases visionOS 1.0.2 Two Days Before Vision Pro Launch” first appeared on MacRumors.comDiscuss this article in our forums

eBay will pay $59 million to settle DOJ suit over pill press machine sales

Online commerce platform eBay will pay $59 million to settle allegations from the Justice Department that it assisted in the sale of pill press machines, which are used to manufacture both legitimate and counterfeit prescription medications. The platform sold thousands of these presses, along with other products to create pills, such as molds, stamps, dies and encapsulating machines. For the uninitiated, encapsulating machines are used to fill capsules with medication.
Pill press machines are used by legitimate pharmaceutical companies to manufacture medication, but they are also a required tool for making counterfeit pills. Criminals use these machines to make fake medications that look like actual prescription pills, typically for sale on the street or via the dark web. When combined with molds, stamps and dies, these fake pills will look exactly like the real McCoy, down to the logos and letters on each side. Additionally, these presses can whip up thousands of pills per hour.
The issue here is that companies that facilitate the sale of pill presses and related equipment are required to verify the buyers’ identities and send records along to the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) to ensure the machines can be traced if used illegally. It looks like eBay shirked its duties here, which is a violation of the Controlled Substances Act.
“Through its website, eBay made it easy for individuals across the country to obtain the type of dangerous machines that are often used to make counterfeit pills,” US Attorney Nikolas Kerest told ABC News.
eBay’s failure to follow “basic reporting and record keeping requirements” allowed people to “set up pill factories in their homes and to do so without detection,” added US Attorney Henry Leventis.
Beyond the hefty payout, eBay has agreed to comply with regulations moving forward, so information regarding each pill press machine sold, along with accessories, will be sent to the DEA for perusal. Additionally, many of the people who bought the machines on eBay have been charged in illegal counterfeit pills trafficking cases, according to the DOJ.
This is a big deal, because these counterfeit pills are often filled with all kinds of junk, including fentanyl. The synthetic opioid is largely responsible for the deadliest overdose crisis in US history, with nearly 74,000 people dying from fentanyl overdoses in 2022 alone. This drug accounts for more than two-thirds of overdose deaths in the US. You won’t fall into a coma by touching it, no matter what cops say, but you should still stay far, far away from the stuff.
As for eBay, this isn’t the first time the company had to pony up money to the DOJ. It recently had to pay $3 million to settle a truly bizarre cyberstalking case involving the shipment of live animals. The DOJ is also suing eBay for allowing the sale of aftermarket “defeat devices,” which bypass vehicle emission controls. This article originally appeared on Engadget at https://www.engadget.com/ebay-will-pay-59-million-to-settle-doj-suit-involving-over-pill-press-machine-sales-181919125.html?src=rss
