It was a long time coming, but the Sonos Beam was finally a Sonos soundbar worth waiting for. With a design small enough to match most TVs, it’s equipped with smart features, innovation and exquisite sound that impresses. There are a few issues worth pointing out (the lack of Dolby Atmos at the price disappoints), but the way the speaker fits in with the rest of the Sonos eco-system makes it a must-have for those that have invested in other Sonos devices.

Providing you’ve got a HDMI-ARC compatible TV (which most modern ones are) it’s easy to set-up and, if you’ve got other compatible Sonos speakers, it’s a simple way to get wireless surround sound for your movies, too.

TVs might look great, but most of them definitely don’t sound all that good. That’s why Sonos made the Playbar, a soundbar that can produce top-tier audio quality while simultaneously syncing up to your other multi-room speakers. It’s definitely expensive, no doubt about it, but there’s no other soundbar this well-connected. Here are some specs: First off, it’s 3.35 x 35.43 x 5.51 inches (85 x 900 x 140 mm) and weighs 11.9 lbs. (5.4kg). It only comes in one color and requires a separate mounting kit if you want to mount it beneath your screen. Unlike the Play:5, it has nine Class-D amplifiers, three tweeters and six mid-woofers – that can put out a ton of noise.

The Sonos Play:1 is the alpha in Sonos’ alphabet. It’s not the most powerful of the bunch, but it definitely knows how to get the job done. It’s 6.36 x 4.69 x 4.69 inches (161.45 x 119.7 x 119.7 mm) and 4.08 lbs (1.85 kg) but it can really kick. It comes in two colors – white with light metallic grille and black with graphite grille – and works with standard wall mounts and speaker stands. We love how easy it is to setup and its awesome sound quality, but thought that its low end could use a bit of oomph. Still, if you’re looking to start a Sonos system without spending a lot, the Sonos Play:1 is the place to start.

The Sonos Play:3 is the middle child of the bunch. It’s more powerful than the puny Play:1, but doesn’t have the same room-filling audio that you get from the Play:5. For some people, though, it’s just right. So how big is it? The Play:3 is 5.2 x 10.6 x 6.3 inches (132 x 268 x 160 mm) and weighs 5.71 lbs. (2.6 kg). It comes in two colors – white with light metallic grille and black with graphite grille – and works with standard wall mounts and speaker stands. It has three Class-D amplifiers, one tweeter, two mid-woofers and a bass radiator. Again, here you’ll find great audio quality and a pretty easy setup.

Here it is, the grand kahuna of the Sonos systems. The Sonos Play:5 is everything you can want in a network speaker. It gets loud, but also sounds crystal clear at top volumes. It’s obviously a bigger than its brethren, however, so keep that in mind before you try stuffing one into a one-room apartment. So how big is it? It’s 8.03 x 14.33 x 6.06 inches (203 x 364 x 154 mm) and weighs 14 lbs. (6.36 kg). It comes in two colors – white or black matte enclosure with graphite grille – and contains two built-in microphones that can tune it for your space. Unlike the Play:3 it has five Class-D amplifiers, three tweeters, three mid-woofers and a phased speaker array that separates sound into its three channels – left, right and center. Good sound doesn’t come cheap, but once you hear a Sonos Play:5 speaker you won’t want anything else.

There’s nothing wrong with your old audio equipment. You’ve invested years in setting up and tuning your system, and there’s no reason to let any of that go to waste. For anyone interested in keeping the equipment they already own but add on a streaming or mutil-room audio component, Sonos Connect is your solution. While it’s not exactly a player in its own right, Sonos Connect allows you to send or receive audio streams. That means you can hook it up to your receiver to send out your favorite CD over the airwaves in your home, or set it up with your old floor speakers to bring them into the 21st century. 

Three years after the company released its first ever soundbar, the Playbar, Sonos has created the Playbase, a unique form factor sound system that combines a stable pedestal for your TV with an audio cabinet. 

Why did Sonos create a second home entertainment device? The team did extensive research into how people used their Playbar at home and found that most people didn’t wall mount their televisions or Playbars. To that end, the Playbase was created to allow people to set their televisions right on top of the speaker, allowing for a compact home theater solution. 

Overall, the Sonos Playbase is a good-sounding speaker for those who don’t want to fumble with a surround sound system or simply don’t have the room for one. There’s no need for a receiver, making it truly plug-and-play. Sonos’ philosophy of making music enjoyment as frictionless as possible continues with the Playbase – the Sonos app is easy to use and the integrated universal search across music services is something we wished every speaker had.

Sonos systems are great. Like seriously great. We want to call them perfect, and yet without some sort of low-end support they just aren’t. For that you need the Sonos Sub, the additional audio piece that adds a hefty amount of bass to your favorite music genres. The design here is a bit funky, we’ll admit, but hey, if you were looking for a conversation starter (and ender) at your next house party, this is it. That said, it’s 15.3 x 15.8 x 6.2 inches (389 x 402 x 158 mm) and weighs 36.3 lbs (16 kg). It’s available in two colors – premium white gloss and premium black gloss – that can match either your Playbar or Play:5 speaker. Inside you’ll find two Class-D amplifiers, two force-cancelling speaker drivers and dual acoustic ports that help the Sub reach a low frequency of about 25Hz.

So what’s a good deal for Sonos speakers?

Good deals are subjective, obviously. But if we were in your shoes, we’d wait for at least a $50/£35/AU$75-off sale. These happen around the holidays, mostly, but do happen sporadically throughout the year as well. 

If you’re looking for a recommendation, your best bet is to start your Sonos system with a Play:5, the big brother of the bunch, and work your way down. We also have a soft spot in our heart for the Playbar (it’s on our best soundbar list, after all) and a Play One is a great pick for kitchens, bedrooms and studies.

The Apple Watch 8 is the best smartwatch you can buy, thanks to new health and safety features such as a temperature sensor and crash detection. You’re still getting all the fantastic features of the Series 7 smartwatch, including the Always-On display, activity tracking, an ECG app, and impressive all-day battery life.

The 2022 Apple Watch SE shares many of the same features as the Apple Watch 8 but with a much more affordable price tag, with a starting cost of $249 /£259/ AU$399. While the SE lacks the always-on display and ECG app (which many might find unnecessary), the smartwatch includes an improved chip for faster performance and new health and safety features such as fall detection and Emergency SOS.

The smartwatch comes with all the features that people love about the Apple Watch, such as tracking heart rate, activity, sleep, and calories burned, and helps you stay connected with the ability to receive notifications, take calls, and reply to texts directly from your wrist.

The Apple Watch 7 was unveiled in 2021 and includes a 70% brighter Always-On display, faster charging, and 20% more screen area, making it easier to use and read. The design also received a refresh with softer and more rounded edges and new sizes of 41mm and 45mm. The Apple Watch 7 still includes all the nifty features of the Series 6 smartwatch, such as blood oxygen monitoring, an ECG app, and activity tracking.

Thanks to the release of the Apple Watch 8, Apple Watch 7 deals have been difficult to find if you’re looking for a new model. If you don’t mind a renewed smartwatch, plenty of offers are available.

The Apple Watch 6 debuted in September 2020 with an introductory price of $399 / £379 – the same baseline costs as the 2019 Series 5.

The feature-rich Apple Watch 6 comes with a few key upgrades over the Series 5 – namely, a new blood oxygen monitor (with an accompanying app) and a brand new S6 dual-core processor, which Apple claims is 20% faster than last year’s model. Aside from these key upgrades, the always-on display is back, but it’s been drastically improved with some neat new controls for notifications, allowing you to interact without fully waking up the watch.

The Apple store no longer carries the Apple Watch 6, so like the Series 7, Apple Watch deals on the Series 6 are hard to come by if you’re looking for a brand-new smartwatch.

The Apple Watch SE  was released in 2020 alongside the Series 6 as a more affordable alternative, coming in at a starting price of $279 / £269. 

The key features include the latest watchOS 7, which will enable this device to access many of the new upgrades the more expensive Series 6 is rocking, but at a more affordable price point. Internally you’re also getting the same altimeter, gyroscope, and accelerometer as the Series 6 – enough for all the main fitness apps, but you’re missing out on the brand new blood oxygen monitor. 

All in all, this watch is definitely more stripped down than the fancier Series 6, but considering you’re getting roughly the same amount of power on tap as the Series 5 at a lower price point and the new watchOS 7 – it’s excellent value and one of our favorite Apple Watch deals.

While the Apple Watch 3 was released back in 2017, it still remains a top-tier device in terms of fitness and longevity, with run and cycle tracking onboard and a water-resistant casing for swimming, plus the heart rate monitor on the underside. And the LTE version comes with cellular connectivity so you can use it independently from your phone. 

You will be losing some of the design benefits of the newer models by opting for this cheaper Apple Watch price. The smaller screen and case size doesn’t hold you back, but there’s a much nicer option on the market with the latest chassis designs. The watch itself is slightly thicker and runs on an older processor that won’t have you blitzing through apps quite as quickly. 

Nevertheless, the Apple Watch 3 still stands as a strong smartwatch solution, especially if you’re looking for something cheaper to use for fitness or music only. It’s far more affordable than the later models while still offering the latest software, and, thanks to Apple’s continued support, it’s generally found at most retailers. Essentially, Apple Watch deals will center around this essential feature set that offers amazing value for money.

The only downside we’ve found with these headphones is the lack of the latest Bluetooth support. These are on a slightly older version so don’t quite have the wireless range of the newest premium headphones. There’s also no waterproofing on these JBL’s either, but otherwise, they get a hearty recommendation for us.

If you’re looking for a cheap, no-nonsense set of wired headphones for your work desk or home use, check out the Tascam TH-02. These fully over-ear closed-back headphones aim to provide a detailed, studio-ready audio experience, but most importantly, retail for just $20 / £20 at Amazon currently.

Tascam is a trusted brand that has been around for many years, and the TH-02 is a good choice over the many nameless and unbranded headphones that tend to sit at this price point. You’re getting some powerful drivers here, as well as a fairly robust (albeit slightly dated) plastic design that should last for a good time.

How much are AirPods?

The official AirPods’ price is $159 in the US and £159 in the UK and $249 in Australia. So you shouldn’t pay any more. Although, we have seen some stores cheekily push the price up when stock thins out. If you’re looking for the version with the wireless charging case, then prices shoot up to around $199 in the US and £199 in the UK.

Expect the usual outlets to charge closer to the MSRP and, better yet, potentially dip below it around the key shopping seasons. Fingers crossed we don’t have to wait long for some proper Apple AirPod sales though!

What about the original 2016 Apple AirPods?

These models have been discontinued and phased out at most stores now. On the rare occasions that we do spot unused stock units, they’re actually the same price as the new and improved 2019 versions.

Short version: get the 2019 models instead via one of the deals in the comparison chart above. To be sure they are the new ones, look out for H1 chip and hands-free Siri functionality in the description if the title doesn’t say something along the lines of ‘2019’ or ‘latest/newest version’.

Should I wait for a cheaper AirPods deal?

You might be waiting a while for seriously big discounts. Last year around Black Friday, we were seeing $20 discounts selling out in minutes, and it was one of the most popular deals we highlighted in our extensive roundups of the hottest offers. We saw similar discounts in the UK too – much better than last year’s $7 discount but still no flash sales around right now.

Things have actually been better overall this year though with much better deals available in various regions. We’re regularly seeing discounts of $15/£20 outside of peak seasonal discounts, so you should be able to beat the recommended asking price to be honest.

Amazon Echo deals for the smart speaker range are never far away. We’re here to make sure you don’t overpay for an Alexa speaker.

Amazon’s latest smart speaker, the 5th Generation Echo Dot, was released late last year with a starting price of  $49 / £54.99 / AU$79. The Echo Dot is the fifth iteration from Amazon’s smart speaker lineup and is its most powerful yet, with an improved audio experience with more bass and an enhanced range. The smart speaker also includes temperature sensors so you can control your thermostat with compatible smart home devices with your voice when you’re not home. Other features include new tap controls and eero built-in for increased Wi-Fi coverage.

While the compact smart speaker was just released, we’ve already seen Amazon Echo Dot deals with the best prices during holiday sales like Prime day.

Equally spherical, but much smaller, is the endearingly cute new Echo Dot – the fourth generation in the long line of excellent budget smart speakers from Amazon. Launching at just $49.99 / £49.99 / AU$79, it’s remaining one of the cheapest ways to get your hands on a voice assistant this year, but almost disappointingly, aside from its new eye-catching spherical design, improvements are mostly iterative.

That said, the new inclusion of Alexa Voice Profiles for Kid is a fantastic little feature if you’ve got kids in the house. This new child-friendly tech can recognize when a younger person gives voice commands and tailors its reception accordingly. So, if the child asks Alexa a question, they’ll get an appropriate response, animal sound alarms, and even help with their homework should they need it.

The 2020 Amazon Echo is the fourth generation in the long line of excellent smart speakers from the tech giant. No, your eyes don’t deceive you, it is indeed much, much more spherical than the 2019 iteration, but luckily all that extra space around the waist has been put to good use with some upgraded internals.

A new speaker array looks to provide an all-around much higher fidelity experience for music lovers, while the inclusion of the new Amazon Sidewalk and Zigbee support should help with smart home device compatibility across the board. You’re also getting a new ‘AZ1 Neural edge’ processor onboard, which Amazon claims helps speed up voice-command recognition by double – not bad considering this latest iteration is retailing for the same price as last year’s release.

The older, standard 3rd iteration of the Echo Dot comes in three colors – charcoal, heather grey, and sandstone (that’ll be black, grey, or white to the rest of us). The hockey-puck-shaped speaker has a more refined look thanks to the fabric finish – far better than the older all-plastic version. The speaker driver is much larger too, going from 1.1-inches in diameter to 1.6-inches. It’s 70% louder than the previous version and keeps the aux 3.5mm connection for a secondary speaker. You can also connect it wirelessly to external speakers via Bluetooth.

If you’ve been watching the Echo Sub for a while wishing you could just add the smart speaker into the fantastic sound for a complete package, you’ll want to check out 2019’s Echo Studio. The massive Echo smart speaker works as a complete high quality audio solution that not only offers impressive sound quality for its price tag but can also easily create a home cinema with a Fire stick. 

Amazon have pitched their Echo Studio as low as possible in price – excellent times for all the bargain hunters out there. Don’t be fooled by that relatively low price either, this is a powerful speaker. While the 3D audio can be hit and miss, we found that the Echo Studio offered fantastic value for money with powerful sound and a wealth of features. 

The best Amazon Echo Show deals

The Amazon Echo Show 5  was released last year with a launch price of $84.99 / £74.99/ AU$119, which is actually cheaper than the starting cost of the 2019 model. The 5.5-inch display works with Amazon Alexa, so you can use your voice to ask questions, play music and videos, and control other compatible smart home devices.

The 2nd Generation Echo Show has an upgraded HD 2MP camera with twice as many pixels as the previous version. You’re also getting new home security features with Alexa Guard, so you can keep an eye on your home from the display and get alerts to your phone when motion or sound is detected. The 2021 Echo Show 5 is now made entirely of post-consumer recycled fabric and comes in charcoal, glacier white, and a new deep sea blue color.

The Echo Show 8 was also released last year with a retail price of $129.99 / £119.99 / AU$199, which is the same starting price as the 2019 version. The all-new Echo Show features an 8-inch HD touchscreen display and works with Amazon Alexa to play movies, stream music, view photos, and control compatible smart home devices completely hands-free.

The new and improved Echo Show 5 comes with an updated 13MP camera that automatically pans, zooms, and frames for improved video calling. The smart display also has a new processor resulting in faster performance and is available in two colors, Charcoal and Glacier White.

The Echo Show 10 was released in February of last year and is Amazon’s latest and most powerful smart display with a starting price of $249.99/£239.99. The 3rd generation Echo Show features a 10-inch HD display that automatically turns to face you. The 13MP camera will follow you around, so whether you’re making a video call, watching a movie, or following a recipe, the Echo Show 10 is always within your gaze. The smart display also features auto-framing, so you’ll stay front and center on video calls, and features a new design with a floating touchscreen above a cylindrical base.

This is the cheapest Amazon Echo Show you’ll find out in the wild right now. It comes with a smaller five-inch screen than the other Echo Show deals in this list, but if you’re after something for a bedside table display, or you simply don’t need another intrusive screen in your living room, the Echo Show 5 sit perfectly.

Compared to its bigger siblings, or Google’s rival offerings, you might find the screen a little small depending on where you’re going to be seeing it from after requesting something via the Alexa voice commands. Plus, you’ll be missing out on the improved display and audio quality of the more recent Show 8 as well. The huge selection of how-to videos is super handy though if you can plug it in close by, especially in the kitchen.

Not long after the release of the Show 5, Amazon came along with the Amazon Echo Show 8 and a larger screen. So while you may prefer the smaller Echo Show 5 for a bedside table, the new Show 8 works better in larger spaces.

If you’re looking for some hands-free recipe guidance in the form of kitchen video tutorials, then this is ideal. The Echo Show second-generation does offer a larger screen, but that 10-inch display comes at a significant price jump. This 8-inch screen is perfect for larger use than you’d need from a bedside table, without offering a hefty price tag to match. 

You’re also getting the superior display and audio quality of the Echo Show (2nd Gen) with all the privacy and app benefits that came with the Show 5. It’s an amalgamation of the best bits of the last two models that comes out with a price tag sitting closer to the cheaper end than the premium 2nd Generation.
